  1. I have a Thai wife who is now a naturalised British subject. Her son came
to the UK in 2010. He is now aged 20 years old and in full-time
education. He has a Thai passport with unlimited leave to enter the UK.

The grandfather (father-in-law) has told my wife that her Son has to
return to Thailand to complete his military call-up, apparently, if he
is 'chosen', he has to serve in the Thai Army or he forfeits certain
rights and that he is liable to arrest (= shame on the family)

    when he returns to Thailand.

My stepson is now being offered a UK college course lasting 3/4 years
in an apprenticeship scheme.Obviously any return to complete Army
Call-up in Thailand would impact on this also, such a time spent out of
the UK would void his current status to freely enter the UK.

Does anyone know of any exemptions or otherwise to being 'called-up'
to the Thai Army that may apply to my stepson, any info would be greatly
appreciated. My stepson is anxious to stay and complete his education
but does not wish to upet his Grandfather.

    Thanks for looking.

  2. You should know that in most cases, it's all about the doctor, not about clinic. Doctors usually serve in several clinics on daily basis.

So if you choose your "leading" doctor he/she could direct you, even if she's not capable doing certain work (e.g. implants).

I sincerely suggest Dr. Phontip. She is specialized on removals and she's working in Modern Smile @Pattaya Klang on Thursdays, Pattaya International Hospital, and several others.

Hospitals are essentially different only by pricing.

P.S. The doctor has managed a very complicated removal for me, and it went flawlessly. I don't remember the overall price, but it was certainly lower than the common 8,000 for removals.

"but it was certainly lower than the common 8,000 for removals."^^^^^^

Am I reading this correctly, 8,000 baht to pull a tooth?

I dont doubt you some may have been quoted that, I dont doubt others have paid it, but really 8k to pull a tooth, someone somewhere is pulling someones plonker.

The standard price to pull a tooth in any Thai clinic is 500 baht.

I have found that the Pattaya International Hospital will over-charge for treatment.
  3. I should point out that the narrow advice and financial views expressed are only one of many aspects, I had a 'diabetic abcess' it was caught just in time it disabled me for 18 months. As I said, everyone has a different metabolism, a detailed report from a medically qualified doctor is the best way forward, you can always review the options he/she suggests or is endangering your life through ignorance a good option...??

  4. Type 2 Diabetes requires control either by diet or medication. The normal medication is metformin taken daily in tablet form, you will need a self testing kit so that you can monitor your own blood/sugar readings. Any doctor should be able to help and to provide this or recomend a suitable device, indeed, as everyone's metabolism is different, the doctor will probably want you to monitor and record your readings over a period of time so that he can recomend and adjust the correct dosage.

Diabetes is progressive, so some find that as time goes by they eventually have to inject themselves with insulin in order to control their diabetes, but being newly diagnosed the doctor will recomend the most suitable treatment.

  5. Thai culture is facinating, the women exquisite, of course personal preferences come to mind, they are like all women materialistic in some way, western culture and capitalism has taught them that, indeed, we all measure success in such terms.

They value friendship, love showing their feelings, laugh and smile, they have a great sense of fun, they're gentle warm and compassionate they also seek romance, love, friendship and understanding. I can only wish you success........:)

  6. Try contacting Vic of the Queen Victoria Inn on Soi 6, he's had a lot of work done to a very good standard using local engrish speaking tradesmen. He'll probably let you see quality of work which is the best recommendation.:)

  7. Having struggled through the paperwork in applying for various Visas, starting with the Visitors Visa for my Thai girlfriend to marriage visa and Indefinite leave to remain, in continuance a Visa for her son to join us in the UK, the advice given by 7X7 on this forum is the soundest. I would direct anyone to him as he has a good broad base of knowledge and up to date with topics regarding various entry visas to the UK

    .

I make this judgement by comparing his advice with my own successes, which cost me an awful lot of money, whereby, many of the answers I required to pertinent issues were answered well, and in detail by 7X7 on this forum.

In conclusion, it is about the quality of the evidence you present, not the quantity.:)

  8. Rick: No I was willing to pay the full price of 200B and I was smiling and in a good mood. I remember a few months ago going through the same market and some people I knew stopped me to chat. One of the vendors stepped in and said to them that I was a very bad farang, but since they knew me, we all just ignored him.

And as far as asking a school girl where she attends school, I have done this all over the world with no problem. Asking them out on a date is another matter entirely! It was obvious that I was not trying to pick her up. Anybody out there with teenage daughters, would you attack a man for asking her where or if she went to school? You would probably listen closely to make sure of his intentions, but just ignore him when it was obvious that he was just being kind.

I think that you've been in the wrong place at the wrong time. From what you say, it does appear to be a sad one-off occurrence, you were just unlucky. :(

  9. I think it costs a wee bit more for the tracking but it's a must. Have had quite a few packages lately after learning the hard way but the signed for trackable works for me

I agree entirely, the tracking element with companies such as DHL are excellent, but sometimes, my packages have been caught up in a wharehouse in Thailand for days; it still gets delivered once you get back onto the DHL agent enquiring about the delay :D

  10. May they Rest in Peace. In the UK it would be perfectly legal to transport bodies to the Crematorium in this way.

they are actualy transported in Black Private ambulances or Hursts , and they dont pile in 23 bodies... a blck private ambulance will carry 2 at the most, unless a huge diaster and they need to move dead bodies quickly, but then they are taken to a morg,

I'm sorry, but you need to be corrected, 'it is legal to transport bodies in the UK in this way, where ever they are going'. The vehicles you personally quote are of private companies trading as undertakers. I will not sasy anymore on the matter, out of respect of the poor souls, it being neither the time or the place.

  11. There are plenty of girls in Pattaya. Obviously you can meet girls in Bars, the ones's working in shops/restaurants will speak to you, however, please do not mistake politeness and kindness as a 'come on', the cultural difference between western people and Thai people is that the Thai's will treat you with utmost respect bordering on reverence. It is this kindness that endears westerners towards Thailand and it's culture.

    Good luck in your endeavours........B)

  12. Mobile phone contact is another way, if she has a mobile in the UK, numbers called, or yours to hers, photos of any kind, letters with envelope giving postmark. Letter of confirmation from people in household stating day she arrived etc. Her passport will show that she has not been anywhere else since arrival.

Make sure she has National Insurance number paperwork if she has one.

Put it all in seperate plastic envelopes in a file. Other considerations are Car Insurance/ store cards/ loyalty cards in her name, club membership, anything with a paper trail and various dates leading to your wife.:)

  13. I had hard skin, it cracked causing a break in the skin and lead to an infection called Cellulitis, I was sightseeing in Khon Kaen, when I felt feverish, sick and I became really ill, I was in the Bangkok Hospital for 2 weeks, my Doctor recommends that I use a product called 'Heel Balm' this softens the skin, it then makes it easier for podiatrists to keep your feet in shape especially in the hot tropical climate of Thailand where it is easier for bacteria to breed and spread in untreated cuts or abrasions.B)
