orders on the new Pros are now available on the thai apple website!

Waiting time is 4-5 weeks tho

Not necessarily correct if you ordered early enough once it was possible....;-)

I guess I was one of the first "crazy" ones to place an order today around noon for a maxed out 15" and I suppose to get it within 2-3 weeks. Will see how it goes but if past experience is anything to go by I should have it more before the end of this month.

At the Apple call center they said they are waiting for permission of some authority before it could go on sale in Thailand. Anybody has more information on that?

I've been waiting for the new Pro to replace my over 7 years old one, don't want to be in the end of the queue of orders from the rest of the world.

Well, I do not have more information on that unfortunately (as I called them as well and was told the same thing) but just to let you know that you are not the only one in this situation.....

It is extremely frustrating to be waiting on the new Macbooks to be released just to learn that you are not able to buy them locally on release date due to some missing official approval.

My dying Early 2011 Macbook Pro will not last much longer....:-(

  3. Looks like somebody did not get the memo that they are not suppose to sell alcohol....smile.png

Don't you think, the two BiB's in the picture clearing the formalities, how to handle this?

Believe it or not, I realized that as well when I saw and talked to them.... that they were "trying" to sort out the formalities.

Foolish of me to think that they (whoever delivered the evil goods) would not even try to pull something like this of....whistling.gif

  4. SOS Thankyou kindly for that detailed information......but aren't we on the Apple forum?

Apologies. Forgot that some people use Macs.

Well, yes....who would have thought that there are "some" people in the Apple Forum that use a Mac.....shock1.gif

    To the OP:

Why don't you just use Preview to add the few lines and words to it?

Just double click the JPG file Screenshot and Select TOOLS, then ANNOTATE and you can add several elements to the File.

Works for any document that you open with Preview

  5. Not much reason to get the phone from the carriers to be honest, given that it's a 1000 - 2000 baht cheaper direct from Apple?!

its worth paying a little extra to get it same day instead of 2-3 weeks.

Agree but Apple store is 2 weeks now, and I don't know of any stores that have them in stock. That might change of course, there's been a big jump in availability recently, and once it's at 24h shipping from the Apple store I guess everyone will have some in stock...

I ordered my phone beginning of this month from the Apple Store and went to pick it up directly from the DHL Centre at Bangna Trad (as I could not wait anymore whistling.gif ). While they were searching for my phone I asked the DHL guy how many phones they receive each day from Apple China and he told me that they receive each day (including the weekends) 3000 phones! The numbers are so big that they have to work together locally with EMS to get them distributed to the customers. If you think about the profit that Apple is making on each phone, it is just amazing how much money they can make with this product alone each day in such a relatively small market like Thailand...

  6. Impressive, 10 million fashion victims in a week. I guess the old "one born a minute" rule still applies.

You hit it right on the head. This is an inferior piece of technology, selling at top dollar, due to the fact that it is so hip. The Galaxy SIII absolutely blows this phone away, on every level, from the much better keyboard (not to mention the custom keyboard apps), the camera, the photo quality, the brightness of the screen, the speed, etc, etc. I could go on for a year, having used them both. But, the worldwide snow job continues, and people continue buying into the iphone hype. I say all this as a mac user. So, I do know what I am talking about.

Interesting to hear that you used both of the phones already, taking into consideration that the Iphone 5 is not for sale yet. Unless you were one of the chosen few that were at the Keynote, I suspect that you did compare it to an Iphone 4s?

Anyway, I highly doubt that the build quality of the Galaxy is anywhere near that of the Iphone 5....so I do not think that it would "blow away" the Iphone 5 at least on that level.

  7. Meanwhile people at FROC are apparently busy not to answer phone calls from the citizens of Thailand that are in need of assistance or clarifications, as can be seen on the below photo that is making the rounds today on the Thai social networks.

The phones are apparently all get engaged by "not hanging up the phone" and are just used to make outgoing calls if it is required....

Well, the government has to keep their priorities right, correct?

  8. All is still well in front of the PTT Building were our experts of FROC set up their office.....and at least they made sure by the look of it that the tires of their cars do not get wet...

  9. Have ridden a bike with my friend up to Ratchapidisek Road / Vibhawadi junction and it is flooded even outside Hino offices. travelled along then took Paholyothin Road and the flooding continues past Major Cineplex there with TV crews in attendance. I took a video of it all but it is too big to put here and I am not expert enough to reduce its size...

I too believe it will hit Lad Prao very soon....and onwards. Good luck to all.

You can put the video on Youtube and embed it onto your post.

If that is too complicated, you can upload it to a webspace of your choice and post the link here. Even Dropbox will do.

I think I am not the only one n this thread you would like to see your video...

Well, you gave me the idea to upload my brief video of my visit this evening to Ratchayothin. Compared to 24 hours earlier it is starting to get really messy now but I honestly do not think the water moves forward at a speed of 1.8km per day as earlier mentioned and that it is fortunately moving slower forward.

Anyway, here is the Link to my video:

  10. Good news everybody! It looks like they removed the famous stickers! :whistling:

So, either they took Nick's advice or somebody else told them that it might be a good idea to remove the stickers if their intention is to help everybody.

However, as expected I was not "disappointed" in finding the boats once again stationary at their tends.

Well, one can only ask for so much.....

    post-43434-0-36770800-1320326824_thumb.j

  11. Thanks for clearly illustrating the point that I was trying to make in a sarcastic way.

Anyway, as I mentioned in my earlier post in which I wanted to check with Nick if he had a chance to check with them how much usage they currently make of the boats, I did not question that they were used in the past to help people.

Just over the last few days I never saw the boats not at the non-flooded intersection. Maybe they just waited for the water to come and it looks like the can finally use the boats now also in this area.

As I want to check the water level there anyway in about an hour or so I will see if I get a surprise...

  12. They clearly displayed a sticker that displayed a clear message. It's up to them to provide evidence to the contrary, it is not up to anybody else to prove they aren't doing what their own sticker says they are doing.

Actually, it seems to me that it is only up to them to keep doing what they are doing - helping people in a flood. They certainly have no need to prove something to you, me or anyone else here.

Their location is not a secret, you guys who speak thai can go out there and talk with them. The rest can take their iphones and snap some pictures or post their own video. Careful, you risk catching them in the act of helping someone.

I haven't seen any evidence that they're even helping anyone in a flood even, regardless of shirt color. One poster here who observes them regularly wonders if they are only there for advertisng/showing their colors, as he's never seen the boats move. he didn't seem like he was trying to smear them and it sounded like he'd have loved to catch them in the act of helping someone. Just no luck so far.

Poor confused soul. I guess the flooding must be really getting to you. Have you forgotten that this whole debate about the boat stickers started with a picture of the boat, with victims in it?

Who knows, maybe that first photo with the victims in it was fake and photoshopped? :whistling:

  13. Sure it would, but I think you'll find a lot of what come out of The Nation doesn't even pretend to be reporting.

Which in some convoluted way would bring us back to Thanong's rant that initiated this debate. ;)

I hope this discussion has now sufficiently proven, no matter what side one is on here, that he was quite wrong with his basic premise.

Nick, as you have been there to interview them, did you also have a chance to ask them how many hours a day they actually also make use of the boats to help the people?

This is really a honest and serious question and I am not trying to generate any new argument, just surprised that I always see the boats stationary there when I walk past (three times within the last 24 hours).

One could nearly think that they are just there for advertising purposes. Just to make it clear, I am not saying that they did not help previously in different provinces, but here I am just starting to wonder when they ever use those boats.

  14. Just in case people are interested and want to check for themselves if the stickers that were discussed earlier are real, they can see them under the flyover at the Phahonyothin / Ratchadaphisek intersection in the direction of Rama 9 road. I know this was mentioned earlier already, but I just found it "interesting" that the boats are still standing there in the same state as apparently a few days ago without them seeing a lot of water until now. Slightly surprising as one would have thought that they could have very good use for them a few kilometer up the road.

I did not have the guts to take additional photos to prove that the stickers exist (therefore I just attach again the photo that was posted earlier here), as the people at the tend did not really look that friendly and the police uniform that was hanging in the tend did also not necessarily convince me to think that it was a good idea to take some photos. Noteworthy for me was also that there was a rather big amount of relief goods in the tends as well waiting to be delivered to ...??

I wish Nick could find some time to talk to the chaps there to find out more about them and their motives, but I am sure he has more important things to do.....

  15. As we are nearly through it, I was wondering why the FROC released apparently the attached graphic recently?

And more curiously I was wondering which area in Eastern Bangkok the experts of the FROC consider to be near to the Chao Phraya river? ;-)

  16. On a whole, the Red Shirts have initiated a completely new discourse in Thai politics, leading to rapidly growing political consciousness in previously politically apathetic sectors of the population, questioning all aspects of the Thai state. A modern democracy needs a political awakened population, it needs a culture of debate and discussion, and that was before the Red Shirts not existing, politics then being mostly a game of different elites and vested interests.

That does not mean that the Red Shirts are always correct, or that the political development process is finished, far from it - the Red Shirts are often wrong, and there is much more development to take place. But the gates have finally be opened also in Thailand. Lets see what comes out of it.

In regard to this topic, i do find it encouraging that most of the Red Shirt groups have put politics aside for the time being, and use their formidable networks in flood relief, even working together with the military (disregarding the uniformed blather of Thanong in the article that initiated this discussion).

I am sorry, but you really believe that this has or will change due to the Red Shirt movement? Are you telling us that the current leadership is not also a elite and is not "playing" a game?

And if anything, they "helped" to create a huge separation in the country between the two different faction that are right now the Red Shirt followers and all others that do not agree with them.

Just in my humble opinion of course

It won't change when the redshirt movement in general is under the firm guidance of an acquisitive elite itself. Sure you can find individual segments that imagine they are independent, but the hand holding the global red umbrella is clearly "elite" like it or not. This undermines their claims of grass roots independence in no uncertain way.

Well, Nick told us that it has changed already, so I guess we have to take his word for it.

It just boggles my mind how somebody who is obviously very talented and spending a lot of time on the subject (most likely more than anybody on here) can be so "blind" to some of the most obvious facts.

But hey, I have just been reading and following the various discussions in which Nick was involved in the past and I know there is no way of convincing him to try to see certain very simple things from a more critical perspective.
