  1. First, to clarify the post made by libya_115, not all American pizzas are thick-crusted... only "Chicago style" pizzas are. Pizza from New York are thin like Italian pizzas, but the crusts are not crispy.

The closest you will ever get to NY Style pizza is the food cort at the top floor of RGP or the Spiccio in the food court of Carrefour, but alas, neither deliver.

The best delivery IMHO is the Pizza Comapny (http://www.pizza.co.th). Many topping choices, dependable delivery, lots of side dishes like breadsticks and salads, and a good price.

Pizza Hut is a close second. I don't like Nick's either -- it's too Italian. I avoid pizza joints that call a plain cheese pizza "Margherita", because they are of pure Italian persuasion, which I do not care for. But that's just me :o

  3. Thanks to THAIVISA and the new MY PHUKET MAGAZINE (nice one) for the nice party at Ratri Jazztaurant,

a good event which I hope we will have next year again at Phuket.

It was nice to met some faces behind the avatars.....thought George is much older, before I met him :D

One of these days I will meet George and others. My feet have hardly touched the ground since April :o

I am missing the chat room also.

  4. This poll is designed to find out who are the true Thai ladies. For those who have been visiting Thailand for many years and been in other parts than the tourist areas of Patong and Pataya, they might have noticed that, maybe, Thailand is not the sex country it is advertised to be. Is this true or are we being duped?

Can you please add the link for the Poll???

    Many thanks.

However, I live in Chon Buri. There are a lack of lady bars and local ladies are not easy to invite for an evening out.

They are ahrd to get, like in the UK. :o

  5. Having just seen "Gladiator" on UBC for the fifteenth time this year, I have to propose the idea of whirling blades mounted on the axles of your bicycle. Bows and spears / javelins as an added deterrent are good too. :D

When I started to read this I was halfway through a Pork BBQ on a stick . I choked on it! BRILL!

(Not the stick, or I think not)

    :o

  6. Riding my bike recently I have encountered this problem several times, but not with so many dogs in one small road.

Has anyone else had similar problems?

    Hi,

I recently walked from Aikchol Hospital, in Chon Buri, near where I live, to a bar , no more than 500 yards along the road.I encountered menacing dogs. It only takes one to bark and the others follow suit.

i was quite alarmed , as they moved in on me slowly. However, a Thai lady ordered them away from me, much to my relief.

  7. I dont know where you are based, but in CM the rate for a private tutor (teaching THAI) is around 150bht an hour. I do not think any Thai person would pay more than this for an English lesson. Also, most would expect a discount if block booking.

<<<< One quotes discount when one has a 'block' booking :-)

  8. there was a harry enfield character years ago called 'loadsamoney'.probably never got exported to germany(###### funny if he did) :o .this character always carried large wads of cash & thought he could buy everybody off.loadsamoney!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,was his catchphrase.

also had a character who said "i am considerably richer than you are"

<sulking> < :D lifts money into wheelbarrow and trundles away in disgust :D > If only!

  9. I haveto go back to Manchester UK in October, for 3 weeks, I have an Open University exam to do on the 18th October.

Lucky for you October is low season. In that case you may be better off using an airline such as Emirates or Etihad or Qatar who fly to MAN and do O/W tickets but dont you want to return?

    Hi all,

    Thanks for all your replies.

Yes, I want to return after my exam. I now have a teaching position here and a work permit. I have been teaching over 2 months. I like the school and the kids, all is hinky dory.

OK, getting to manchester then that is where I come unstuck. It is faster for me to get to Manchester Airport than Picaddilly station in Manchester .

I will keep looking , I am always in Pattaya at weekends and asking in different travel shops.

    Thanks again

  10. How about the other direction? BK to UK one way? Could that be booked and the same thing done in reverse, I wonder?

    Yes, of course

    Air Asia to Macau

    Ferry Macau to HK

    Oasis HK to LGW

I haveto go back to Manchester UK in October, for 3 weeks, I have an Open University exam to do on the 18th October.

Help please :-)))) I am having trouble navigating that site at times .I keep ending up where I start off when I enter details for Manchester :-(

  11. Is it the complexity of attempting to work out inter-connecting flights and times, or is it I, after a long day at school, who is finding the idea somewhat confounding?

i have just booked what I believe to be the cheapest way from london to bkk (one way).

    1) Fly Hong Kong Oasis from London to Hong Kong. (£160)

    2) Travel to Macau from Hong Kong airport (£18)

    3) Fly Air Asia from Macau to BKK (£45 approx)

Seems to be about £100 cheaper than any one way flights I could find.

    www.skyscanner.net was a big help

  13. I live happily alone in my little house in Pattaya with two lovely Thai Dogs, since my Divorce last year.

The only thing that worries me sometimes is the thought that I might pop-off and no-one will find out for

week or more. The Dogs would have to eat me!

THAT is often the reallity of retirement in LOS.

I have aquaintances sure. But they wouldn't miss me for quite a while. GFs? They come and go......

But this worst case scenario will not happen hopefully......

That scenario, alas, can also happen in the UK. It does quite frequently

  14. Hi all i purchased a one way ticket to thailand, i have a non o multi visa but thai airways staff think that i might not be able board without a return ticket.I explained to them that i intend to live there with the wife and have sufficient funds available for living etc. I have made copys of our bank statement and also a copy from a thai embassy site stating that a onward ticket is not required if you have a valid visa. I hope this is correct as i will be flying out next week, any info or advice you guys have would be very much appreciated. :o

    Hi,

I, only last Wednesday, visited the Royal Thai Consulate in Hull UK.

Mentioning that I had purchased a 'one way flight ticket', the Consul immediately offered to print off an authoristion letter to present at Check-In.

All the letter or notification stated, was my Name, Passport Number, Non Immigration-B Visa Number and added.... This Consulate Office, hereby entitles and enables the above named person to enter Thailand on a 'One Way' Flight Ticket.

The letter was duly signed by the Consul and sealed with the Royal Thai Consulate Seal.

There was no extra fee involved. It was a pleasure for the Consul to print off the letter for me.

I read, within the Royal Thai Consulate Website somewhere, that although some Airlines do ask questions as to a One Way Flight Ticket, there is nothing in Thai Law, rules or regulations to suggest that a one way flight ticket, with the correct Visa, is not following correct procedures. Indeed, by not allowing one way tickets at Check-In, when they obviously can.

  15. Hello everyone,

May I please introduce myself, as I am new to the Forums. My name is Michael and I live in Lancashire, England. My age is 55 years. Following a messy divorce, I have decided to uproot and leave England for Thailand as a TEFL Teacher. I have been to Pattaya quite a number of times and like the atmosphere tremendously.

I visited last November until just before Christmas. It was on my return back to England that I decided I would love to 'dig' deeper into becoming a teacher in Pattaya or Chon Buri.

Over the Christmas period, I decided to return to Pattaya yet again. During the latter half of January I was on my way back to Pattaya. Before leaving the UK, I had spent sometime writing emails and also online with two TEFL Schools in Pattaya. We had arranged, that when I returned, I was to visit them and travel to a few schools in Pattaya and Chon Buri and discuss further, my becoming a teacher in Thailand.

The arrangement, I duly accomplished. I made a few friends with the members of staff of the TEFL schools. We discussed at length, my opportunities, and rewards. The staff at the schools I visited were also very nice towards me. One school even wanted me to start there and then! Alas, I could not at that time. I am now back in England, about to return on a 'one way' ticket, on or around the 16th April. My Non Immigrant Visa –B, I have to collect from Hull on the 11th April.

I noted a post in the Teaching Forum mentioning the fact that a new law has been passed in Thailand to the effect that, a Police Clearance Form is now required and to be handed to the school concerned. This applies to all new TEFL Teachers. In the UK, you must allow up to 40 days to receive the Police Check, through the post. It is necessary to go to your local Police Station and request the form for completion. And return, duly signed by a person 'in good standing' i.e.: a solicitor, teacher or a member of the church, similar to a priest, vicar etc. This must be returned to the same police station accompanied with a fee of £10. The school, in Thailand, then passes this form to the Thai Authorities, and they have a maximum time to do so, which is three months from the date of issue. I have yet to receive my clearance, with about 10 days to the final 40th day.

Time is now approaching rather quickly for my return, I am about to pay my deposit to the TEFL school, book my air ticket, collect my visa and countless other tasks to accomplish. I have elderly parents, alive, in the UK. I do have also two brothers who live here in the UK. It is now that I am experiencing 'cold feet' symptoms, which I am sure is natural and many of you, no doubt, experienced similar symptoms before your departure for Thailand on a 'one way' ticket.

I look to you, as 'new found' friends, to assure me that I will be made welcome in Thailand. I look forward to any advice, no matter how great or small, you may be able to offer me. And maybe, one day, meet, as I will initially be teaching in Chon Buri, and visiting Pattaya frequently. I am happy to discuss more if anyone wishes to email me.

    Thank for reading my post.

    Michael

    Hello,

May I thank you for reading my post and also for your comments and advice. I have also made new contacts already, for which, I am truly grateful. I look forward to meeting some of you in the not too distant future.

I will be leaving the UK on Tuesday 17th April.

Thank you so much, once again.

    Miichael

  16. OK, I know there is no accounting for food taste, but as a public service I would like people to know that the pizzas served by the newish pizza takeout joint, Pizzas R Us, are THAI STYLE PIZZAS, which to my taste, means REALLY BAD PIZZA!

I got tricked by their pretty impressive public relations campaign which implies that they serve a choice of either Italian or American style pizzas. They don't! They also claim they are a successful chain from the UK? Is that really true? I can't imagine they would be serving Thai style pizzas in the UK. There is nothing about either Italian or American styles on their menu or on their phone line. This is at least correct, because they do serve THAI STYLE PIZZAS.

Thai style, as in tomato sauce that tastes like SWEET CATSUP, an insipid thin crust, very low grade cheese. On the side are included four "sauces". Their PR implies this might be some kind of Italian sauce experience. Wrong again.

    The sauces included:

    1. Catsup (if the "tomato sauce" on the pie wasn't enough catsup

    2. Mayonaisse

    3. Russian dressing (mix of catsup and mayo)

    4. Sweet Thai chili sauce

The pizza did indeed need condiments. Like salt and pepper. Very bland. The only spice was SUGAR.

Disgusting and not cheap either, a typical pie large enough for one hungry person, 220 baht.

    Avoid, avoid, avoid!

BTW: Can anyone suggest a pizza takeout place in town that is half decent? I think you can get pizza from Globetrotters takeout from Door2Door. Not crazy about their pizza either, but much better than Pizzas R Us.

    Pizza? In Thailand? :D

One wonders why the Thai Authorities have allowed them in , in the first place, same for KFC and McGobbledygook.

Whilst in Thailand last month, there was a full page, forget which Press, edited by a Uni Professor, pleading with the peeps who mattered, to stop the influx of 'Gobbledeygook Outlets' within Thailand, as they have nstudied and observed that the younger Thai peeps are are becoming ,how can I word it, (gotta watch sexism in the UK) :D Obese?

And it was only a few weeks ago Prince Charles hit the Headlines when in Dubai. Alledgedly, he noticed the same Oulets out there and , quite rightly announced to his Hosts, McDonalds? GET RID OF THEM!' You should have seen the reaction here. It was all over the headlines for a full week !

Obesity is now a big problem in the UK, pleeeeeese . oh pleeeeeeeeeeeese do away with European 'claptrap' foods, before it is too late :o

Before we have to rely on 'DONGLES' ;-)

  17. They assume that we have more money than the average Thai therefore we should pay more. After all we are rich "Farang" with money to burn. Paradise is never cheap. Next they will tax us for the amount of air we breathe and there will be a tax for using the ground to walk on.

    Paradise is never cheap? :ermm:

The UK must be paradise. Today, 1st April, Wales went smoke free, under a Ban on Smoking in Public Places. Whilst at the same time receiving free Prescriptions on the NHS. England, however, does not kick in with the Ban until 1st July. Also residents in England will still have to pay for prescriptions even after July 1st.

I am beginning to wonder who will kick off the tax on breathing air and tax for using the ground we walk on. Britain or Thailand? :whistling:
