The hotel could have just let this slide and it would have died in the morass of today's hot social media posts.
But no. They've got to exert their birth-right to enforce 18th century laws, and lord over a commoner who dared to tell the truth.
Now millions of people around the world are now aware of this dodgy hotel, and Thailand's odd defamation laws.
Not particularly business savvy.
It is so satisfying to observe the Streisand effect in full sail!

Few years ago asked vendor in Chinatown why lottery tickets had different prices... “Lucky numbers expensive, unlucky numbers cheap.” Bought ‘unlucky’ number... THB2000 won. Best result was that my wife instantly became less superstitious!

Thailand is the only country where I have seen an ambulance (with lights flashing) queuing to pay a freeway toll. This says much about the 'Land of S......'.

The Swiss have colonised NORTH Korea....the present nutter with an overinflated ego running the place was educated in Switzerland.....
Using that logic, Thailand was colonised by the Swiss many years ago.

Many taxi drivers have no clue where to go. The most extreme case I had once when a taxi driver did not know Mor Chit Bus terminal and had to ask passengers.
A problem I have also experienced on a few occasions. Even with a Thai friend stating our destination, the driver nod, nods, so off we go. In truth he has no clue whre our destination is. Even stating well known areas: near Patpong or Robinson Silom brings no reaction. I guess that we were unlucky on those occasions, the driver must have been very new to Bangkok.
Robinson Silom closed 4 years ago.

I have no idea who is right or wrong but I "HATE" people that drive Mercs. They always think they rule the road and are nearly always ignorant stuck up people. My opinion!
You are obviously a very mature person whose opinions are greatly valued by all those who are lucky enough to enter into your presence.

Even if you took the number of injuries for the week during Songkran and multiplied it by 52 (assuming this is the same rate all year long) and then compared them with the number of "serious" injuries in the UK in 2010, the numbers are about the same. http://en.wikipedia....#Annual_summary
Er.... the reported 'serious injury' total for the UK in 2010 in the article to which you refer was 20,803.
When multiplied by 52 this year's 7 day Songkran injury tally of 3320 is 172,640.
About the same eh?

To put this is actual perspective ... it is an increase of road deaths by approx. 10 a day over the amount of road fatalities that occur in an average week in Thailand.
So that's all right then?

Deal with sex tourists? There are an estimated 2 millions prostitutes in Thailand, 95 percent of them catering to thai people. So sextourism is not an issue, statistically. It's like saying eradicate eating spaghetti among tourists visiting Italy!!!!...Furthermore what's wrong with sex tourism?Without it tourism arrival would plunge - I estimate- around 80 percent.
They should first deal with the sex tourists. That's insanewhy dont they just make gambling legal? Like any normal country?
I fully agree that prostitutes cater for the local market first. But you can't deny the prevalence of sex venues for farangs in Bangkok.
And by the way, if you say that 5% of the prostitutes cater for farang (i.e. 100,000 prostitutes based on your calculation), I hardly see how it can concern 80% of the tourists coming to Thailand.
@ 3 clients a week they would be seeing 15.6 million tourists per annum between them. Not far off 80%!!

As Lopburi says the applicant is always asked to write the telephone number on the application form.
To the OP, your visa/extension expired before the floods, it is your responsibility to have renewed it, no-one will call you to tell you this, it is not their job to remind you.
You are on overstay as you failed to comply with the rules, how much they charge you for overstay due to the floods, is up to them.
I suggest you do what everyone else does and go to Immigration to get it sorted, and stop playing the "they never called me game", TIT, grow up!!!
Mind you could be a troll, first post on TV....
A new member makes his first post and is told to grow up; it is then suggested that he may be a troll. Charming.
Anyway, welcome to Thai Visa THX1137 and thank you for your first post. I hope that your problem is resolved quickly.

In 1947 my Dad lived in Victoria London England and worked in the neighboring Borough of Pimlico.
In 1949 Pimlico was declared an independent State and my poor old Dad had to obtain a passport to Pimlico in order to travel to and from work until the regime was overthrown by the Labour government in 1953.
So in some cases a passport is required for travelling inland.
Was your father Stanley Holloway by any chance?

On several occasions I have seen ambulances with their emergency lights flashing patiently queuing to pay an expressway toll. This reveals much about the sad state of affairs in Thai society.

Thailand is a laughing stock to most of the world. This is not surprising. His sister being elected Prime Minister would be like Richard Nixons sister being elected President. No, even worse.. Nixon was pardoned.
Richard Nixon didn't have a sister: http://en.wikipedia....ixon#Early_life

NEW GOVERNMENT
It's official - Yingluck the prime minister
By The Nation
The House on Friday cast a roll-call vote to install Yingluck Shinawatra as prime minister.
Of 496 MPs present, Yingluck received 296 votes. The opposition abstained with 197 votes. Three votes were cast against the nomination.
Of the 300 coalition votes, four abstained including Yingluck, the House speaker and his two deputies.
Three Democrat MPs cast their disapproval were Watchara Phetthong, Boonyod Sukthinthai and Attaporn Ponlabutr.
Yingluck is 44 years and one month old, breaking a world record as the youngest female ever elected the prime minister.
-- The Nation 2011-08-05
Anyone want to correct the Nation AGAIN?? Something like,... youngest prime minister , and the first female prime minister in Thai history? Unlike the Nation, I am open to correction if I am incorrect.
You are correct - here's the list of female prime ministers, their ages when elected and ultimate fate, that The Nation couldn't be bothered to research:
Sylvie Kinigi, Burundi, 41, later became acting president
Agathe Uwilingiyimana, Rwanda, 40, assassinated
Benazir Bhutto, Pakistan, 35, assassinated
Mari Kiviniemi, Finland, 41, voted out of office

Mrs lingyaiyai was not interviewed, settlement visa was granted (after 10 weeks and 4 days).

Mrs lingyaiyai got the 'passport ready for collection' message this morning.
We live in central Bangkok so were able to go to VFS at lunchtime - visa approved!
Best of luck for a speedy and positive result to those still waiting!

Crackdown looming on foreign teachers without work permits as new labor minister flexes muscles

It's about opportunities (or lack thereof) though, isn't it?
If decent English is taught at all schools then ALL children with the right aptitude would have the opportunity to write computer programs, discuss business with international partners, become international airline pilots - or do many other things.
If they have no English their horizons can't extend much beyond the baker's, butcher's or supermarket for employment.
