Ahem, YOU were the last one to use the term 'raghead' on a post I was linking to a Sikh businessman in England who has not yet got back to me - maybe because he saw your comment Paddy? Maybe not.

Either way, cheers for deleting it when I called you to ask and no hard feelings.

I think you may be mistaking me for someone else with regard to your above statement Scamp.

  6. The agonising details of Ken's last moments were disclosed yesterday as his wife Sombat exclusively revealed to the News of the World that PM Tony Blair had contacted her to pass on his sympathies.

She said: "Tony Blair called once but at the time I was too upset to talk properly.

"But I am told he will be calling again."

Tearful Sombat also revealed how she plans to travel from her home in Thailand to comfort Ken's mother Lil, 86, in Liverpool. Lil, being nursed through the ordeal by relatives at her home, has already been taken to hospital twice with stress. Sombat, speaking from the British Embassy compound in Bangkok where she is being looked after, added: "I am so sad and I am so sorry. I can't cope.

"I never gave up hope that Ken would be freed. Even when I heard his death had been reported, I wanted to wait until it was confirmed before shedding my tears.

"I always had hope, even up until then. I am very upset but I will be talking with the British Ambassador later to talk about going to the UK to see Ken's mum." Later Sombat, 35, was shown on a video released by the British Embassy paying tribute to her husband.

Sombat said: "No words can express the agony I feel for the loss of Ken. He was a good man and a loving, caring husband. He went to Iraq to help the Iraqi people."

  7. Retired boxer, Burmese man charged with tourist killings

Police seek two others for Canadian's death

    Wassayos Ngamkham

A retired Thai boxer and a Burmese man have been charged with the murder of two Japanese men they met at homosexual bars in Bangkok last year.

The boxer, Picherd Saenkaew, 30, of Si Sa Ket, was also charged with the murder of a missing Canadian this year.

Mr Picherd and his alleged associate Aung Saw Gyaw lured their victims to their apartments where they killed them for their belongings and credit cards.

``I had to kill them so they would not have a chance to cancel their credit cards,'' Mr Picherd told a news conference at police headquarters yesterday.

The suspects were charged with killing two Japanese tourists, Tomohiro Kosha and Akinobu Abe, and dismembering and hiding their bodies at Bangkok dump sites in April and July last year.

Police were also searching for two other Burmese suspected of involvement in the murder of the Canadian, identified by police as David Chan, in Sukhothai.

Mr Picherd was apprehended as he was about to board a bus at the Ekkamai terminal. Aung Saw Gyaw, 19, was arrested at a rented house in Sukhumvit Soi 105.

Police chief Gen Sant Sarutanont said the two suspects had confessed to murdering Abe, 32, in April last year and Tomohiro Kosha, 30, three months later.

Mr Picherd had also admitted murdering the Canadian tourist with assistance from two other Burmese men in February this year, police said.

The two men were charged with premeditated murder, moving or disposal of the body or parts of the body to conceal the cause of death, and collusion to forge documents and use them.

Pol Gen Sant said Mr Picherd, who worked as an illegal tourist guide, knew Aung Saw Gyaw, who worked in a gay bar on Sukhumvit.

The two had met Abe and tricked him into staying with them at an Onnuch apartment, where they hit him over the head with a chair and then strangled him. Abe's body was stuffed into a suitcase which they dumped in Klong Saensab in Sukhumvit Soi 40.

Abe's body was discovered by Thong Lor police in April last year but investigators were unable to identify it.

After the killing, Mr Picherd and Aung Saw Gyaw left for Cambodia to cash Abe's traveller's cheques, worth 120,000 baht. They also used his credit cards at various shops in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, and Pattaya.

Gen Sant said the suspects had lured the second victim, Kosha, to a Phra Khanong apartment and killed him. They stole his traveller's cheques worth 200,000 baht, a credit card and his camera.

They admitted dismembering his body and packing it in a suitcase and garbage bags which they threw into a canal. The body parts have not been found.

The Canadian's body was discovered after the Canadian embassy alerted police to his disappearance.

Mr Picherd said he picked up basic Japanese when he went there to demonstrate muay thai. After returning to Thailand, he became an illegal guide preying on backpacker tourists on Khao San road.

He had been jailed once for stealing a traveller's cheque from a foreign tourist.

On his release from jail, he decided to go back to stealing and made up his mind he must murder his victims to silence them.

Thai Guide Charged With Gay Tourist Murders

A Thai tour guide and a Myanmar citizen have been charged with the murder of two Japanese men and a Canadian man they met in gay bars in Bangkok's red light areas, Thai police confirmed.

Police said Picherd Saenkaew, 30, and Aung Zaw Saw, 19, picked up their Bangkok gay bars and invited them back to their apartments where they killed them for their belongings and credit cards.

"I had to kill them so they would not have a chance to cancel their credit cards," Picherd told a news conference at the Thai national police headquarters.

The suspects were charged with killing two Japanese tourists, Tomohiro Kosha and Akinobu Abe, and hiding their bodies at Bangkok rubbish sites in April and July last year, police said.

Picherd also confessed to killing a Canadian man, identified by the police as David Chan, and dumping his body in Sukhothai, 440 km north of Bangkok, police said.

Police said they were also searching for two other Myanmar citizens suspected of involvement in the murder of the Canadian.

  10. BIRD FLU: Disease’s spread to dogs confirmed

    Published on Oct 4, 2004

Prachin Buri governor dismisses reports of pigs dying from avian flu

Dogs in Prachin Buri have been confirmed as having bird flu, according to reports by the faculties of veterinary science at two state-run universities, said a spokeswoman for the Public Health Ministry yesterday.

Nittaya Chanruangmahaphol said she received the test results from Dr Thavee Chotepittayasunan, deputy director of the Queen Sirikit National Institute of Child Health.

“I don’t have any further details,” she added.

Dr Charal Trinvuthipong, who chairs a committee set up to tackle bird flu, said it would hardly be surprising if infected fowls were found to have passed the virus on to mammals.

He said he had already received reports of cats and tigers that had contracted avian influenza.

“So far, there’s no report that bird flu can be passed from mammals to humans,” he said.

Meanwhile, Prachin Buri governor Sukhumrat Saributr dismissed reports that pigs had fallen prey to the lethal flu, saying that initial autopsies showed the dead pigs’ lungs were not damaged.

“The owners also admitted to using excessive amounts of mosquito-repellent spray in the pig enclosures,” he said.

However, Sukhumrat said the carcasses of the pigs had been sent to the Animal Health Institute for further checks.

Khieo Burami, 40, said eight of her 30 pigs had died after their enclosures were cleaned with mosquito spray.

“I think the pigs were allergic to it,” she said.

She said none of her 50 chickens, ducks and geese had displayed any symptoms of bird flu.

A neighbour concurred that her six pigs were healthy. Samruay Khemthong, 52, was not concerned by the pig deaths in the vicinity.

“I don’t think they died of bird flu,” she said.

Perm Yamyim, 44, was so confident that the disease was not an issue in the area that she asked for some pork to cook and eat.

“No fowls have died in our village. There’s no need to be afraid,” she said.
