Thanks everyone for the insight. I guess I'll continue to keep the passports tucked away and wait to see what, if anything happens. It's been quiet for the last week, she's probably been dumped lol

Lived in one myself for the last 10 years, since my daughter was 5 months old. Personally I feel that where I live now is considerably safer than the UK.

Apologies for not giving enough details.
Daughter was born in Bangkok and has lived here for 10 years (she's 10).
My ex is Thai.
Joint custody was awarded here in Thailand through Thai courts.
Ex-gf is working in Sweden and currently living with her new partner.
Just to be clear - although I will miss her, I am happy for her to go to Sweden provided I am assured she is entering a safe, stable environment. Having lived with her mother for almost 5 years I am sceptical of this. However, I have only ever encouraged my daughter to spend time with her mother. Of course I will probably only see her once a year, but it could be a good opportunity to learn another completely useless language, which incidentally is something my daughter excels at. She's fluent in both Thai and English, and is proficient in Chinese.
I think my problem is with how it may materialize. My ex is irrational and ignorant.
She will be here next year and I know that she will take my daughter without my permission which is why I asked the original questions.
Can she apply for a new passport without my consent?
Will she be able to leave the country without my consent?
If she succeeds and I travel to Sweden, will their namby-pamby government interfere?
Cheers!

8+ years ago I was very grateful for the invaluable information acquired from this forum which assisted me in being granted joint custody of my daughter after a break-up between her mother and I.
I was granted custody of my daughter during the week, and her mother was at weekends. I never forced this - to be honest I didn't need to as my daughter hated staying with her mother and after a few hours I would be called to come and collect her.
Her mother has played very little, if any role in her daughter's life for the past 8 years and she has been under my supervision 95% of the time, although I often encouraged her to stay with her cousins of a similar age.
4 years ago the ex-gf moved to Sweden as an economic migrant and only returns to Thailand for 5 weeks during Songkran. Of course I allow my daughter to stay with her the entire time.
Now the ex has recently found another fool to finance her champagne lifestyle she has increased her efforts to entice my daughter there with the promise of untold riches lol.
Now, my daughter says she would like to go, and I am happy for her to do so, but I would like to know what I could be getting into, so have a few questions.
If I deny permission for this to happen is it likely a court would overrule?
What would happen if my ex takes her against my wishes? (I have both of my daughter's passports).
Could she apply for a new Thai passport without my consent.
Would she be stopped at the airport and questioned? (Daughter has my surname).
What could happen if she made it to Sweden unlawfully?
And finally, if I gave permission would it be possible in the future for my ex to be granted sole custody by the Swedish government (just saying that sounds ridiculous).
I know I'm asking a lot, but this scenario could well materialize next Songkran so any information, experiences, or links would be massively appreciated.
Thanks!
*Forgot to mention - I am British, not Swedish.

I've only read the first post.
I was in a similar situation 7 years ago. I had to take my ex-gf to court. I am now legally recognised as my daughter's father and 'won' custody Mon-Fri. My daughter is now 10 years old and has a good relationship with both parents.
Go see a lawyer, if you want to play a role in your son's life and can take care of him.

It's not open yet. But it looks near completion. my son loves it there also but up the road a little, nearly opposite the nation building there's a condominium block, Parkland, and its 100 bt for an adult, 50 bt for a child to use their pool. We find its a very pleasant place to spend an afternoon.
Thanks.

Thanks, it's the water park on the top floor. I know it's been closed for quite some time (I think it was meant to reopen late 2013). I checked late last year and work was still being done.
It was very run down, but my daughter loved it there and keeps asking if it is open again.
-
Does anybody know if it has reopened yet?
Thanks

It's amazing / ridiculous how a country that thrives off of tourism has such a blatent disregard for tourists safety. I remember going to Koh Phangnan in December '04 thinking the speed boat was completely full and about to leave. But no, another, at least, 20 people were ushered on to stand in the middle with pretty much nothing to hold on to. It was no surprise the following party a boat capsized and double figures died I believe.
Where I am from, if there is a chance of a serious accident, you don't do it. Here it seems that if there is a chance of not having a serious accident, you do it.$$$

Buy Electric scales, count calories, With the internet it's simple and take less than 10 minutes per day. Sod that low carb rubbish

I may have missed the word "maybe" out.
But sadly no, 100% true. 2-3 years ago.

I often see seat belts but the seat covers prevent from clipping them in.
-
Bad Luck you say? Why does that not surprise me lol
That's almost as ridiculous as the woman where I live praying at the temple on NYE for 24 hours then driving home, falling asleep in her Volvo, ploughing into a security kiosk and killing the poor security guard that was probably asleep in there.
"Lucky she go temple. If not, she die also!"
Thanks.

What is the significance?
I see many guys, clean shaven, with about 3" of hair growing out of a mole/wart. Is this a turn on for some Thai women or something?

Didn't we do this recently?
Thanks. I did do a search prior. "Ugly scar shoulder" provided no results.
Next time I will be less descriptive
-
I have seen literally hundreds of women here in Thailand with horrible looking scars on their left shoulders that protrude from the surface of the skin a fair distance, often in the shape of a rectangle.
Is this due to some botched inoculation or have they all merely injured themselves in exactly the same place?

I know how bad some of the driving can be here, I haven't driven a car here for 2 years now due to that I just don't need one.
But some of the driving I witness in my estate on a daily basis is ridiculous
School buses full of children driving on the wrong side of the road at the approach to a roundabaout because they want to turn right and can't be bothered with the extra second or two it will take to drive around it.
There is also a wide 2-way road (enough space for 4 lanes) in my estate with an off-centre security office in the middle. One side of the road has a chicane going around it.
Not so long ago they put an extra speedbump in on the approach because a woman that had been praying all day fell asleep in her Volvo, mounted the foot high curb, ploughed through the small garden and smashed into the security office killing the security guard in there.
Anyway, they also tried adding posts in the middle of the road because many drivers decide they don't want to slow down for the speedbump and instead go around it on the wrongside of the road also avoiding the chicane. A couple of weeks back a motorbike did this and hit a taxi that was doing a U-turn behind the security office.
-
Is that rule in effect here? Never had a driving test in Thailand so I don't know.
The amount of times I see drivers in the estate where I live just pull out of their Soi's to turn left. Very rarely look just slow down enough to get around the corner.
Also driving on the wrong side of the road to turn right at a tighter angle with poor visibility instead of continuing normally 20 metres along the road and doing it properly. What is with that?

Took me at least a year before using the bum gun full-time and quite some time after to perfect a technique that didn't require cleaning up after.
I often had problems due to not wiping my arse correctly. Nothing serious but a sore ring piece can be distracting at work.
Concerning the comment on the drains in the bathrooms. Many Thai bathrooms are designed as wet rooms. Concrete floors and tiled throughout. Squirting water all over the place and allowing it to drain away would lead to water damage in the majority of UK houses

Been back a few times since but neither of the two staff members had been working.
Went there this morning, a week later, to find both the manager and assistant there.
I gave the manager the 35B and explained my confusion and apologised.
I don't know if he understood what I said but he certainly understood what I meant.
The assistant was all smiles too after he went off to speak to her.
Job done.

Just kidding but it's good you check your receipt as there are sometimes mixups in price tags.
I actually felt stupid and quite bad about it.
The thought of it being 25B off had never even crossed my mind for some reason, until I got outside, considering it was milk, so close to it's sell by date and due to the way it was labelled. Particularly after the discount wasn't registered on the receipt.
There was no shouting or anything like that, I was polite, but I did ask, and point out several times, that the milk was 25B.
I've kept the receipt and 34.5B. I wonder how I'll get on trying to give it back
-
Can you just think with your head for like 2 seconds? 2 liters of milk don't cost 25b. It costs like 84b and they would put the bottle on sale at 50% off max, which means it would never cost 25b!!!
If only the shop assistant / manager had been as direct

Short story...
First off, my Thai is not good, of course being able to speak Thai would have (possibly) ended this "confrontation" immediately.
Went to my local MaxValu to buy some stuff. Saw a 2 litre bottle of milk with 2 days left of it's sell by date (I drink a lot of milk). Big sticker on it saying "25".
"I'll have some of that" I thought to myself.
Paid for my stuff, then looking at the receipt I noticed the checkout girl had charged me full price for the milk. Explained to her, showed her the sticker, she went back to the till then gave me 25B.
"Hang on a minute, this milk is 25B but I paid 85B, you owe me 60B"
"Oh sorry" She replied
Then proceeded to take all my stuff from the bags and run it through the till again.
Printed out another receipt and, again, gave me 25B back
Look Miss, this milk is 25B? so you owe me 60B right?"
Manager comes over, talks to the woman, apologises to me then gives me 25B
"Do you speak English Mr.?"
"Yes"
"OK then. This milk is 25B, I paid 85B for it, Therefore you owe me 60B"
He gets the calculator out, hits some numbers, then talks to woman again. Apologises to me once more, then gives me 60B.
"That's right yes?" I asked
"Yes Sir"
"OK, thank you very much, sorry to be a pain. Goodbye"
I get home to be told the sticker says "25B off"

Thai govt urged to lift ban on e-cigarettes
in Thailand News

Healthy? No.
Less harmful? Yes.
Just published. A risk assessment analysis of a recent study by John Hopkins which was all over the media and reported that e-cigarettes emit toxic levels of metals. In fact they do not!! John Hopkins was wrong... The original study was all over the media, with impressive headlines all over the world (including Greece). I expect absolutely zero publicity for this study, which is unfortunate for smokers. But being in the scientific domain, it cannot be ignored by scientists or the regulatory authorities.
