  1. I had looked all over CM with no luck, the ones at Wararot only have about 2cm sides, don't think that is what u want...good for what the other posts said though. Robinsons and the others have nice, expensive pans but won't take the abuse a cast iron one does.....

I brought 3 back with me in my check in baggage, using a smaller suitcase with a rubbermaid type plastic box inside, all wrapped in bubble wrap . 10" chicken fryer- 3"sides with lid; 8" and a 6". .use them everyday....

Fun part was when US customs picked that bag to check out..i had about a half roll of duct tape holding it together....good for a laugh...

  2. I have the usual home PC, daughter just was given a laptop. I have TOT for server (sucks) , speed touch modem. How do i connect it to PC...usb to usb?

can i go direct from Modem to laptop? Via the one cable only?

or is there an external modem i can buy to plug into LT and then to any phone outlet in house?

Sorry for my ignorance about computers.......thanks for any help...Chorizo

  3. Thanks for all the replies, they did say they would have the box and sign in..and for 17 b a day. it can not hurt. having them for a "friend" is a good thing too. We live in a great neighborhood, have many friends and they do keep watch on our house.

..but the bad guys come after all are asleep .......when we were robbed, (we returned from our trip the next afternoon) the police came quickly, but never did take finger prints, only drew-out the footprint on my counter....a drawing and measured the size. Maybe i should have offered money.....crooks did not get much.....

I've been in Th a long time and don't get in trouble so no worries there....

    Thanks Chorizo

had a similar offer when I lived in Hang Dong.

The police proposed a deal where they watch the premises, place a red box outside my house, for a fee of 1000 baht per month. Reading between the lines, what this really means is that, in the event of an emergency, phone the police station and we the police may class you as a priority customer because you are paying.

But I discovered the best method of security here in Chiang Mai, is to always be polite and socialible to your neighbours and if in the event of an emergency, one can call on them for help.

Also it is wise to keep your head down, stay out of trouble, remember you live in a foreign country and above all, keep a calm attitude, especially to the people living around you.

Follow these guidelines and one can prosper here in happiness and safety.

  4. Hi,

i live in a rural area just outside of CM, plenty of thais around us but closest farang is3-4 km. Today a thai police officer came to our house saying he would patrol the neighborhood keeping an eye on our house.Coming by a few times in the evening.500 baht a month.

Seems ok to be but has anyone had this happen?

I was robbed 3 moths back so maybe this is a good deal/

    Thanks Chorizo

  5. unhinged, unmounted, mint.

otherwise forget it value wise iv got a large collection of mostly mounted used.pre 1950

    saving them till i retire

Thanks for the replies, i figured they would not be worth much, only 18 stamps from my childhood collection, Mother had them in a draw and gave them to me a few years back.

I did send an email onto Mystic stamp Co.(where i purchased them in 1954-55) and waiting for reply. Probably back to a drawer in the end..

    Thanks Chorizo

  6. Hi,

I have some old European stamps and would like to check their value. Any stamp collectors out there? Maybe to sell....

    thanks, chorizo

  8. Last year when i did my one year retirement renewal, they kept the original copy of proof of income(pension) and said i have to have a new one each year (previous 3 years i used same one) . I have no problem with this BUT he also said i had to get the POI paper 3 months before i come in ..i asked him if he meant the 800,000 (which i am not doing). He did not reply.

Has anyone run into this ??

    Thanks Chorizo

  9. Seems like the scorpions have come out since the rains started, finding them under flower pots and garden area. My gardener got stung by a very small one and he rubbed a red onion on it( the sting not the scorpion)..i would have went to the hospital....

My question is...is there a method to get rid of them , say a spray or powder or whatever....??

The 6" long centepedes(sp) are around too , usually getting a scream out of the wife and daughter....

    Thanks for any help..

  10. Need some advice..my Thai wife and i contracted a wrought iron shop to build our fence, giving him 20,000 down on a 60,000 job, signing a contract. After a awhile we went to see how it was going and they had not built them to the print...30cm short , shoddy craftsmanship etc. He said he would redo them but after another two weeks he had only done a small amount and they were still too short.

So we asked for our money back or at least 1/2 half. I know it is difficult( impossible ) to get money back once it is in their hand.

We went to the police and they said they could do nothing.

My lawyer said it would cost more to get it back..

So we told the guy to redo them again.....a week later we find his shop closed up and neighbors said he was not paying his men and they took all his steel and sold it.

Not sure if owner is still here in CM ,we will go to his house tomorrow...

My question is ...what can we do now ? is the lawyer the only way out?

Shame on me for giving that much for dp.....should have known better...

    Thanks..chorizo

  11. I know an approx. 40 year old massage woman who keeps offering me her 15 year old daughter which I refuse. Does this mean that with "parental consent" it would be legal? Somehow I don't think so. :o

I know of a farang ( in Udorn) who was offered the same for marriage. He did it but not sure on if he waited til she was 18...don't think he did . He is 68 now and has been with her 3 years. Her friend says he keeps her at the house all the time and never lets her go out by herself. Nice guy huh?

  13. Hi,

I recently went to renew my Retirement visa and i was told that the proof of income paper i had from the Consulate had to be renewed. I had the original paper work from my pension program and the POI paper fron 2005 that i had been using since then. Which i was told by Thai Immigration in 2005, to not renew it each year as pension paper says for life...save some money they said.

So i went back to my consulate and had it renewed..1020b...I made a copy of this , but immigration would not take that, they wanted to keep the original..all previous times they had kept copies only..I asked if this was a new policy and only got a grunt.....and said i had to do this every year.....

I had just told my friend in BKK to not renew his and he got thru with the old one.....<deleted>....

He was also not happy that i only had about 10,000 baht in the bank but calmed down when i told him i just built a 3 M. b house..

Other than the POI paper it went smooth...

I have seen in City Life that they are going to require a copy of ATM and Credit card also, but no word of this at immigration...anyone know about this?

    Thanks....Chorizo

  14. [Yeah , i did have to break the promise to myself not to burn...only one time in past two weeks. I just did not know what else to do. It had to go somewhere. The trash pickups for the Moo Baans dump it somewhere, just still trying to find the place to take it to. I am looking into the compost thing and the local guy takes the bottles, not sure about the cans(tuna, bean etc type) .

The incinerator may happen too. Still would like a legal dump and willing to transport it to there.

    Thanks, Chorizo

Am I reading this correctly ??

Did you not write in your OP "I do not (and will not) start burning" :o

  15. Hi, Thanks for the replies. I actually meant to pose this in the Chiang MAI section..sorry.

We have asked the Pu Yai Baan(sp) and about everyone in the area. With no luck. My wife spent a day going around asking different co. i even sid i would bring it to them and pay whatever but no one wants it.And i have not seen any incinerators at all. I may loook into building one if i have to..

I do separate the bottles and cans. And now also the paper. I have burned the past few weeks until i find an anwer. Hard to burn the food scraps. I am looking into A compost pile but you can't put everything into that either.

I appreciate your relies, is ther a way i can transfer these posts overe to Chiangmai forum?

    Thanks... Chorizo

  16. Hi,

I live in Saraphi, T.Nong Fak, Kuadang. About 6 km from superhighway. The community is all thais,( except for me for several km)They burn all their trash and there is no trash pick-up here.

Does anyone know of a place i can take my trash to dump off(legally) paying them of course.

We have asked some collectors that do the housing tracts but none are near enough for them to come to us. And they did not seem to want to tell us where to take ours.

It is no wonder they have the smog problem as they have no choice.

I do not (and will not) start burning.

    Thanks for any help

  17. My Thai brother-in-law would like to go to USA to work. My wife and family think because i am from USA that i can make this happen. I have heard of the Brokers here but they want a ton of money...any ideas?

    Thanks ...Chorizo

You cannot bring him in because he is not your blood relative. If your spouse becomes a citizen she can bring him in.

    Link to the rules:

I live here in Thailand so not looking to bring him home to USA, just trying to find a way to get him some work. No trained skills...has worked in Taiwan recently and Brokers want 500,000b to have them go pick apples or something......We have tried thai friend that work in restaurant in US, but he was no help to get him in country.Sais he would put him to work if came in on tiurist visa and we all lnow that will be impossible to get for him. Speaks no english. I knew this was hopeless but had to try to get the wife off my back. We got her tourist visa easy(10 year, lucky there) so she thinks we can do the same for him....

    Thanks for the imputs guys...Chorizo

  18. I went to Chiangmai immigration today. Gave then the usual ..copy of all pages of bank book and letter verifying, copy of all pages of passport . I showed them my original letters from pension and American Consulate (from 3 years ago ) and gave them copies, i kept originals. They had told me a few years back to do this so i would not have to pay fee each year. I also renewed my passport in July and did not have to get a new letter from Consulate as there is stamp in new passport showing old passport number.

Only took about 15 minutes once i got in the office but still had alot of waiting, 2 1/2 hours, took about 40 minutes to get multi-entry...

Other than the long wait it went very easy.
