  1. Friend of mine did it around 6 months ago but they will only issue single-entry Non-B even with valid WP (unless things have changed since then).

You will definately need all of the usual supporting documents for Non-B visa as well as yourself and your passport!

Suggest you check out the Consulate's web site for info on what they will need to see for Non-B visa issuance.

  2. Depending on where you are in KP, maybe worth checking out Truemove.

According to the promo material they were handing out in Lotus Samui a couple of weeks ago for their 3G+ service there is also some coverage in KP, although limited by the looks of the map.

They were advertising 7.2 Mbps download speed for their standard aircard and 3G wireless modem and 21 Mbps for the Power Surf aircard! Seemed to be a range of subscription packages which were reasonable. (Sorry can't remember any details).

  3. shame another nie location for sunday roast has disoppeared

Heard that Khun Oh is still doing the Sunday Roasts at her new place!

Sorry, but it is no more.

The boys are back in the UK for now, and Kh Oh (the chef) has opened her new place in Bangrak where the old Jungle Gym used to be. Same great food - new location.:D (Road opposite Blue Diamond Lodge on the Ghost road.)

  4. IKEA have obviously completely misread the Thai market. As other posters have pointed out, Thais with money to spend are never going to buy into the DIY concept because of the extremely low cost of labour here.

IKEA is not just about the furniture and DIY aspect. They also sell a huge range of accessories for every room in the house as well as great kids furniture.

  5. Yes your wife can set up a company and yes she can hire you. It's not difficult but it isn't going to be cheap. A certain level of capitalization will be requires (2 million baht I think), and there is a requirement that there be a certain number of Thai staff on the books.

4 Thai staff members for your work-permit and VISA to be sponsored - hired people can include full-time maid and [full-time] accountant.

So you better make a very nice income to be able to do this, if you are going to pay 4 throw-away salaries...

IIRC with a Thai wife it is 1 million baht registered capital and 2 Thai employees

  6. Looks like they've also tightened up on Non-B visa's. :(

Bad news for those needing 1 year multi-entry 'B' where their employer doesn't qualify to support 1 year extension!

    Category “B”

Conducting business in Thailand as an employee of a non Thai company (ie a business based in the UK)

Evidence required: Supporting letter from the company which you are employed by or which you are representing.

    or

Taking up employment in Thailand with a company located in Thailand.

Evidence required: Valid Thai Work Permit and Supporting letter from Thai company offering employment.

Such company must provide evidence that it is registered in Thailand.

Please note that only a single entry visa will be granted in these circumstances

Just heard from a friend who applied for multi-entry Non-B this week in Hull and confirms the above - they called her today and informed no more Multi Non-B for employees of Thai companies. They will only issue for conducting business in Thailand as an employee of a business based in UK.

She was told they can only issue a single entry and that she should apply to Immigration in Thailand to extend - unfortunately this won't be possible for her as the employing company doesn't qualify yet.

Bad news given the difficulties in getting multi Non-B's locally. The Consular offices seem to be under the impression that everyone with a work permit can get a visa extension in Thailand!

  7. Like you say, the Visa Application Pack has just been updated, (08th Sep, 2011)

Looks like they've also tightened up on Non-B visa's. :(

  8. Anyone have information or experience on a supposed new policy on WP application whilst on Dependent Extension?

Been told by the Labour Dept, that WP will no longer be issued to those having dependent extension where the spouse is not Thai! This is after having a WP issued on this extension for two years already. After changing jobs and applying for a new WP they now insist that a new Non-B visa is required. As the new employer does not qualify yet for sponsoring employment extension this means going back to 90 day border runs which seems crazy.

Appreciate feedback if anyone else has come across this - is it a new rule from the Ministry of Labour or just the local office being difficult

  9. From memory think it's one day but perhaps differs between offices.

If wanted for a Non-B visa application suggest checking with the Embassy/Consulate you are going to as have heard that many are now insistng on the actual WP3 letter (rather than just the receipt) which takes up to 5 days.

On this topic, anyone heard of the supposed new rule that you have to be outside the country when your employer submits the WP3 application? If already here you reportedly have to leave and fax back the exit stamp to include in the application and wait overseas for the letter to be sent to you. This has been reported from the Surat Thani Labour Office - hopefully someone just got the wrong end of the stick! Crazy policy if it's true!!

  10. can't stop destroying things arround. Two air cons, two motorbikes, 4 chairs, 1 table, xxx pair of shoes, a lot of electrical cables, my honda accord and a lot more...

I'm sure that will convince someone to take him off your hands. :whistling:

I hope you do find him a good home as clearly the current one is not suitable for him. A training school can do wonders with that kind of behavior though (the dogs behavior).

Agreed, but training requires the committment of the owner which doesn't look like it will be forthcoming from the comments of the OP.

Maybe more appropriate to post in Plants Pets & Vets forum if looking for someone to take him.

  11. Unbelievable! :o

So essentially a puppy who doesn't know any better 'ruins' your car and immediately you want to get rid!

Inadvertant mishaps, chewing up things etc are all part and parcel of owning a puppy - surely you knew that and took appropriate precautions as to areas/things the puppy had access to!

Otherwise can't understand why you own a dog in the first place. If he ruined your car surely that's your fault not his!

    Shame on you!

  12. Thank you very much for your answer.

I have money, but I checked on Bangkok Airways, it is 16500 THB minimum per person for round trip.

I hate boat, bus, even VIP, but between 16500 THB in plane and 2500 in bus for round trip, I think I will choose bus...

So, you think the best in my case would be bus to KL?

    Thanks again..

khman, if you hate the bus have you checked out Firefly? They fly several times a week (or maybe even daily now) from Samui to KL. Fares are quite reasonable.

  13. Yup had to have test, Labor Department now asks for actual results of test with renewal application.

The past years have been pay money get cert and go but not anymore.

Same here, renewed last month and had to include the actual results of blood and urine tests in the renewal application. I know several people who renewed recently and all had to provide this. (Surat Thani Labour Dept)

  14. Last year when I got my one year license (car) at the Samui office I was just required to do the sight and reflex test. I did not have an international license just my UK one.

A friend went about 6 months ago and same policy. However I would advise checking beforehand as the official list still mentions international license and they may be back to strictly applying it.

One other thing to note is that they do have a strict dress code....... turn up in shorts and a vest and they will send you away!

  15. Not long ago when the power went down a friend and I went to Big C (at my urging) to use the Internet. It used to be free and fast. Now there is nowhere to plug in a laptop and it doesn't matter because they don't offer Internet more anyway. If business is bad, they just made it worse.

Was in Big C yesterday and the free WiFi was back on again...... good signal and fast.

Thai friends of mine say the closing down rumour is untrue. Lets hope so.

  16. Also take note of what "Mario2008" is telling you, you most likely will need to turn up in Shanghai with the WP3 form in hand along with all the other paper work you will need for the application, you are aware that you need Thai entity (company) "sponsership" for this process.

Seconded....it is unlikely that a Non-B will be issued by any of the Consulates in China without the WP3. Additionally it seems their requirements are more stringent than most. As an example this is the list a friend of mine was given by the Guangzhou Consulate a few months ago:

NON “B” Visa - Royal Thai Consulate General, Guangzhou

    Documents Required:

Visa application form completely filled out

Passport or travel document with validity not less than 6 months

Five recent photographs of applicant (4×6 cm)

    Full paid confirmed air ticket

Applicant’s identity card and its copy

Company’s letter of certification stating the applicant’s position, salary and purpose of stay in the Kingdom

Copy of the company’ business license

Letter of acceptance from the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare

Original letter of a company or issued by the Thai authorities concerned (either in Thai or English ) notifying the name and position of the undersigned and stating the objective of the applicant’s visit, duration of stay and assumption of responsibility during his/her stay

Copy of identity card of the person extending the invitation

Copy of the passport page which his/her photograph is attached, copy of the passport page which his/her visa is attached, copy of work permit ( only for foreigner extending the invitation )

Copy of the company’s incorporation registration certificate

Copy of letter of certification of company registration declaring the names of the directors and objectives of the company’s establishment

Document showing correspondence with trading partners in Thailand

Company’s employment contract indicating rationale for hiring the applicant as well as his/her salary, position and qualifications

Work permit ( in case the applicant previously worked in the Kingdom )

Copy of educational records of the applicant and letters of recommendation from the prior employers, identifying job description and length of service time

Document indicating the number of foreign tourists (for tourist business only ), or document indicating export transactions issued by banks (for export business only )

Evidence of adequate finance (20,000Baht per person and 40,000Baht per family)

Documents must be signed by authorized managing director and affixed the seal of the company

Consular officers reserve the rights to request for additional documents as deemed necessary

    Copy required:

    - One copy of air ticket

    - Four copies of the passport page which his/her photograph is attached

Can't imagine that Shanghai will ask for less than this!

Maybe prudent to contact the Consulate to verify the latest requirements.

  17. A multiple non-B will be out of the question, you might get a single but would not count on it. Normally you apply first for a work permit, labour will give you a WP3 form, which indicates to the consulate that you have applied for a work permit. Once yu have the visa and return, labour will give you the actual WP.

Where is it better to go now if I don't have WP3 form. Kuala Lumpur?

Go to the Labour Office just take the documents required and get a WP 3, not difficult, without this your chances of getting a Non Immigrant B are next to zero. Unless, as stated, you are a teacher at a Government school.

Thai Embassy Singapore do not ask for WP3 (or didn't up to Feb this year) - worth checking out if no time to apply for WP3. They did issue single entry Non-B with company papers, sponsor letter, etc.
