  1. Hi All,

Anyone can help to provide a good home for one or two puppies? In the soi where our office is located a litter of 7 pups was born about 8 weeks ago. The mum is a very sweet, docile dog who has been a great and attentive mother. She has been adopted by someone in the street as their office dog and has just been spayed.

Between the tenants on the street we have managed to home 4 of the pups, unfortunately 1 died after being hit by a car but the two pictured here remain. Both are female and in very good condition. Chances are they will go the same way as their sibling unless they can find a good home.

PM me if you can take one or both of these pups. :)

  2. Since earlier this month, British Passports are no longer issued by the Embassy in Bangkok. The British Consulate-General in Hong Kong is the issuing office for British Passports in SE Asia.

However you only apply directly to Hong Kong if you are renewing an undamaged full or expiring passport. If you need a new passport for any other reason you still have to submit via the British Embassy in Bangkok and they send to HK for processing.

You can find detailed instructions at:

    http://ukinhongkong.fco.gov.uk/en/help-for...-asia/thailand/

  3. So many to choose from!

Recommended selection depending on your tastes/interests and time frame -

    The Peak

Star Ferry ride and Victoria Harbour at night

Races at Happy Valley(1) or Shatin(2) although if you're only there 3 days may miss

Lantau Island to visit Nong Ping Monastery and the Big Buddha and Cheung Chau Island for seafood and traditional fishing harbour- Island also has no roads or cars. (Possible to do both in same day using inter-island ferry service although need to time it right)

Ocean Park (far more interesting than Disneyland and great scenery especially the cable car to the headland)

Stanley Market (market not what it used to be but great bus journey on double decker over the hills and along the coast via Repulse Bay - don't take the bus that goes through the Aberdeen tunnel unless in a hurry as you miss out on most of the scenery)

Hong Kong Park and /or the Botanical Gardens (if you want a quick break from the hustle & bustle in the streets below)

Tram ride from Western to Shau Kei Wan (or just part of the route) best transport bargain in HK (along with the Star Fery) - sit upstairs and get to see local colour. Stop off at Wanchai or North Point markets for same.

Take escalator from Central Market up to Mid-Levels

Wong Tai Sin Temple or Temple of 1,000 Buddha's in Shatin

Temple Street Night Market also has Fortune Tellers, Chinese Opera, cheap and cheerful street food stalls with outdoor tables

3 days isn't a lot of time otherwise would also recommend venturing out to the New Territories. There are several country parks with great hiking and cycling trails with spectacular scenery.

I'm sure you'll have a great time there are so many diverse things to see and do. (It's still my all time favourite of all the places I've lived or visited) :thumbsup

For a short stay would recommend choosing a hotel within walking distance of an MTR station e.g in Causeway Bay or Wanchai for ease of getting around or even Central if your budget will stretch that far.

  4. Tracer Round

Suggest you go to the Dog Rescue and see what they are up against. Many of the animals are really 'no hopers' and at the end of the line.

You seem upset that your responsibilities cannot be taken care of by a telephone call.

As you indicate, your dog is fit and healthy. The Rescue centre is not a dumping ground for healthy animals when they have become an inconvenience. Try to spend a little time trying to rehome the poor creature rather than bad mouthing the Rescue centre.

I agree with the other posters.Your action is shameful, you are betraying the dogs trust in you, but perhaps with your attitude it might have a better life in the temple.

Agree 100%. OP should be ashamed on two counts - for abandoning his own pet! :) and for disparaging the Rescue Centre who do great work in extremely difficult circumstances.

  5. Does anyone know if there is anywhere that you can take your garden rubbish, i.e. grass cuttings, leaves, tree branches etc. in Samui? Don't really want to have to drive around looking for an appropriate dumping ground in the jungle (even knowing it will biodegrade no problem) or have to burn it.

Are there any smallholdings that make their own mulch/compost who would accept it?

    Appreciate any info

    :)

  6. The worst road on Samui has to be the one BigC stated in his original post. The 99 cross roads. I know of several people who have died there. I do that run regularly to pick friends up from the airport.

I always put my hazzard warning lights on whilst driving straight through the cross roads (as many other drivers do) I also always drive with my side-lights on in the day time, anything to make you more noticeable on the road.

Agree totally. That crossroads has got to be the most dangerous road in Samui. No warning signs, no road markings, no streetlights, drivers who have no idea re right of way at crossroads! It is now so busy as seems to be the main route for minibuses to the airport departures from the ringroad via Bandon. Have seen a few accidents and countless near misses as use the route everyday.

Drivers coming from Bangrak to Chaweng think they can go straight through without stopping as do those coming from Bandon to the airport. Anyone know or how can you tell which is the through road!! :)

Safety at this junction needs to be urgently addressed.

  7. There is also a company providing home care for pets which I recently used and was very impressed with the service. My 2 dogs and elderly cat were certainly much happier and less stressed staying at home. (Me too as I didn't have to worry about how they would cope in kennels.)

    Check out their website www.creaturecomfortsamui.com

    :)

  8. I would therefore be interested in purchasing an ordnance survey map of Koh Samui.

I don't understand the replies. This chap must be looking for some sort of map showing where the weapons or bombs are:

Ordnance. "1 a: military supplies including weapons, ammunition, combat vehicles, and maintenance tools and equipment b: a service of the army charged with the procuring, distributing, and safekeeping of ordnance. 2: cannon , artillery" - Merriam-Webster dictionary.

I'd like to see one of those maps myself.

Think he means Ordinance survey map which is very detailed and shows topography. Would also be interested to know if something similar is produced in Thailand but have never seen anything remotely close.

  9. Bluebell - which local market do you mean?

The market in the middle of Nathon, it's on the left as you are going down the main road (one-way street). The store is close to there right on the street front and as islandguy says it has lots of baskets as well as plastic bins and buckets outside on the street.

By the way I also found a rolling pin and kitchen scales (Tesco brand) in Lotus but that was several months ago.

  10. There are two shops in Maenam close to the traffic lights where I bought them a few months ago, sorry can't remember the names.

One is on the ring road near the 7-11, a souvenir type store and the other is a general hardware store down the side street leading to the old pier. I think they were about 80 baht each and both gave a discount for bulk purchase.

  11. For a small fee my accountant gets my marriage visa renewed in Surat Thani , No problems so far .

So with the new rules you must make your 90-day report in Surat Thani?

Am I interpreting the new rules wrongly? I thought that the option to apply for extensions etc. in Surat Thani will no longer be possible. If you live on Samui you must apply to the Samui office for everything? :o

  12. Boulangerie in Bophut across from the 7/11 (before the entrance to Fisherman's village) has good croissant, pain au chocolat and lovely raisin brioche. 30-35 baht each

Agree, they also do nice quiche and lemon tart. Sonia's in Maenam (near traffic lights) did good croissants, although haven't been there for a few months.

  13. Not that it will affect me for a few years, since I moved back the U.S. in October, but I did have a retirement visa with my Thai wife and kept it for a few years while living in Chiang Mai because the offices in Chiang Mai issued retirement visas but not marriage visas (I would have had to go to Bangkok for one).  Has this changed?
Chiang Mai issue every kind of extension.
NO, Chiang Mai can not change your visa to a Non-Immigrant marriage visa. This needs to be done in BKK at the Immigration Bureau, or better yet get it before you come to Thailand. Such a pain once you are here and need to do it. I need to go to BKK with my wife soon to do so but they said it "might" take about a week down there. What a joke! My wife has a business in Chiang Mai and we are supposed to go to BKK for a week over this. Unbeleivable!ps: take things you read on here with a grain of salt. I asked on here about the process for getting married and atleast 90% of the info I got was totally incorrect. Call the correct gov't offices yourself to get the correct info, and they also have some confusing info online.

Same in Samui, they ask you to go to Bangkok for any visa changes, e.g. Tourist to Non-Immigrant, Non-O to Non-B etc as they are not authorised. What happens from Feb 15th?

If your local office does not process certain things can you still go to any other office that does?

  14. Have you put up flyers in Thai and English as well? He might come from somewhere in that area.
Why don't you hang a big picture of the dog at the message board of the Big C ? As you found the dog in that neighbourhood, it's likely that the owners will shop there ;-)

My friends who found the dog have put up fliers with a picture all over the area but no luck with finding the owner yet.

This post just makes me warm.It is lovely to see people with such big hearts,it is people like you that make the world a better place,Bluebell. :o

Tritex, they are the ones who make the world a better place, I merely tried to help out by posting on this forum.

there was an older long haired alsatian in the fishermans village, owned i believe by the folks at the happy elephant. you may want to check that out. darker coloration

Thanks for the info, will check.

Good news is the dog is happy and well and already has someone wanting to give him a new home if owner cannot be found.

  15. Ok, apparently his name is Cola & he belongs to a Laundry close to the Bridge..

Thanks for all the info. My friends checked with the laundry and the dog they found is not Cola. Cola is there in his usual place, they had been away for a few days.

Still no luck with finding the owner. The dog is being cared for in Taling Ngam at the moment, he does have a problem with his eyes (early cataracts) which is being treated.

The hope is that his owner can still be found or will come forward (even if it's to say they no longer want him!). If this does not happen in the next couple of weeks the plan is to try and find him a new home. He is a very handsome and good natured dog.

Will ask my friends to get a photo to post.

  16. No, I'm not from the Dog Rescue.

Friends of mine actually found the dog and are caring for him whilst trying to locate his owner. I posted here in the hope that someone may know this dog and it's owner. He has obviously been well cared for and seems a very nice dog.

It is to be hoped that he is just lost (maybe because got scared last night as elfe mentioned) and hasn't been dumped! :o

  17. Crashaws - Never !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to be honest if i said my true mind i would risk being banned from TV.........

Have to disagree Boater. Have used Crawshaws two or three times over the last couple of years and found them to be professional, thorough and with reasonable fees.

As High Diver says it all depends on what you need a lawyer for. Crawshaws will refer you to Bangkok lawyers if you need a specialist.

  18. Any advice please on this situation?

Came to Thailand on Non-O Visa based on husband working here ( he has WP and Non-B Visa, we are both farang)

After first few months applied for 1 year extension on my non-O at same time my husband applied for the non-B 1 year extension....both granted last september.

Since then I have found a job and obtained a work permit whilst on non-O visa. Have been told that since I am now working and have a WP I must apply for a non-B visa next when my current non-O expires in Sept, if I plan to keep working.

Is this really the case as others have said you can work on a non-O so long as you have a WP?

Don't really want to change to a non-B as the requirements for 1 year extension are much more stringent and don't want to go back to leaving every 90 days on a regular non-B multi-entry.

What is the true situation or does it differ with different Immigration offices?

    All advice much appreciated.

  19. Looking for some trellis type fencing but no luck so far. Need about 4 feet high. Found some very short sections in Lotus but only about 18 inches high. Anyone know a place?

Also looking for one of those adjustable safety gates for dogs (similar to the child safety gates but higher. :o

    Would appreciate any info.
