I'm not a big FB fan but it is the place where my children put their 'news' first. Also the place to look at the latest pictures of the grandchildren.

Thanks for the replies, it is a hard lesson to learn.

I've never been happy with the service ofTrueVision, but for about 10 years I managed to live with it and opted for one year contracts to avoid the hassle of monthly payments.
But contents of magazine, programs, wbesite, and service IMO got from bad to worse. Not to forget the Euro 2012 debacle.
So I wanted to cancel my contract as of next month. And yes this can be done but I will not get a refund for the remaining 10 months of my contract.
How is that for a nice treatment of their oh so valued sustomers?
And do they really think they will benefit from it?
It shows again that TrueVision is only interested in short term profits. Well ... as long asit works why not?

Had my successes, had my regrets. Leaving Europe for Thailand at 5x (my God, I don't remember) was a very good decision. Now I'm 67.
I suspect mainly the "happy" ones are open about their age and replied to this post.

This subject has been discussed here not so long ago. If I remember well the main requirement by immigration is that the money has to be readily/easily available.
This would exclude foreign currency.

For digital dish viewers the 'missing' HD channels will be implemented later this year.
120, 121 and 122 are markting show offs. Don't be surprised True will cut them off in 2-3 months.
Also don't be surprised that, when all HD channels will become available on sattelite dish, your monthly contribution may increase if you choose to add these channels to your viewing pleasure.

I never teached in Thailand (and probably never will) but I enjoyed reading this post.
Excellent advise, brought in a civilised manner. To the point and having the poster's problem in mind.
A real treat to the 'neutral' reader.

MS update(s) turning off restore points? Hard to believe.
I checked my laptop and OMG! Restore points turned off!!
I know it was turned on because only a couple of weeks ago I successfully restored a restore point to correct 'strange' behavior after some non-MS software updates.
Thank you Astral for your warning.

An MS update disabled restore points? Hard to believe.
Better be sure and check.
OMG, it has been turned off! Thanks for posting your observations!

After reading uour post I tried it out with a cheap eSata Disc (Verbatim 500MB). Hit the PVR button on the remote and was asked if I wanted to format the disk..The formatting took a couple of minutes but no message of success or failure. Then wanted to record: seems I have first to 'register' with TrueVision: probably the 99 Bath you mentioned. Crucial info TrueVision 'wisely' omitted but nobody spoke of it when promoting the new HD Box.
They also show you some recommended HD brands . I would prefer they would tell me if the HD in plugged in and formatted is accepted.

I buy them at a local pet shop. They sell them as bird food.

Goods are taxed the same rate regardless the country of origin.

One of the best decisions I made while living here was the purchase of a bread maker.

I think there IS something wrong, but it is not bad enough to make a fuss about.
A long time ago I read (on this forum?) about a scam where DHL and customs personel 'cooperated' on inflated custom charges. It happened to me and the charges were blatantly exagerated: THB 2000 import taxes + VAT for THB 500 for goods (less than 1 kg) and THB 3000 shipping. I told DHL about my suspicions and refused to pay. Within the hour DHL informed me that they would pick up the custom charges. For me this was sufficient proof that DHL is aware of this kind of irregularities.

Additional good practice tip:keep the user manuals in a binder and tack the receipts to them.

Don't know about the ultrasound but have some experience importing stuff. I also prefer to buy from a Thai company but often you pay much more by doing so than by importing yourself.
Just 1 example: the Amazon Kindle is about 10% cheaper when you order youself versus buying it from a store in Bangkok.
Also, if you're lucky, you may avoid the import taxes (as the number of postal imports surpasses the number customs can handle, they will pick randomly a number of boxes to be taxed).
To increase your chances to pass import-tax-less avoid courier services, because they clear in bulk at the airport.

For Kindle One address in BKK. See http://read.in.th
The price for the basic Kindle 4 is THB 5,900
You can also order from Amazon.com. They have special international deals: Kindle + shipping (courier) + import fee

Kindle 2 is outdated. Try Kindle 4 (only WiFi and USB).
