Good to see this government has some boundaries, even if they are enforced on them.

"Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong stated that the Government had adjusted the countrys economic balance by reducing its dependence on exports and placing greater emphasis on domestic consumption. The adjustment was meant to sustain economic growth, since Thailands major export markets have faced economic problems.
Minister to the Prime Ministers Office Varathep Ratanakorn stressed that the Government intended to spend the national budget with great efficiency and transparency in accordance with related laws. Apart from the 2.525-trillion-baht national budget, the Government would also have another two trillion baht in loan for infrastructure development."

Well, I have to check with our local experts but I assume the GDP will show sufficient growth.
Another stunning success for Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong and the PTP led government. The countries economy is based on domestic consumption and yet they allow these issues to continue.............
"Cambodia shipped 118,504 tonnes of rice from January to April, up 130 per cent from last year; Thailand remains a large importer. Why is Thailand importing such large quantities of Cambodian rice when it has an excess stock on hand? " http://www.nationmultimedia.com/opinion/Priced-out-of-the-rice-market-30205413.html
While Minister to the Prime Ministers Office Varathep Ratanakorn, explains that domestic consumption will be funded by debt, therefore the future Thai GDP will be funded through financial stimulation through debt.

Both wrong. The last time we had violence was in November 2012 when 50,000 police officers were obstructing less than 10,000 protesters.
Anyway, a beautiful Sunday. All is well and Ratchaprasong is full of shoppers and friendly masks. Not sure if a friendly mask is better than an artificial smile though.
The RTP have changed their tactic for the latest protests.............
Now they openly protect the redshirts who harass other protestors

"A hollow victory is where someone wins something in name, but are seen not to have gained anything by winning."
Surely the Central Administrative Court ordering Prime Minister can't be called a hollow victory, unless one were to suggest that the PM will not follow the order of course.
Any person who understands how the world functions knows that if the guy was not finished as far as having a responsible job under this goverment before the court case....... he is now.......no matter how you would like it to be in a perfect world......he may have been 'managed out'......but he certainly will not be managed back in.....don't you think the courts know the appeal process and the timescales to his retirement...there are plenty of methods to make sure he never holds the position again.......'hollow victory' it remains
Personally I think it was worth it just to see Yingluck with egg on her face, and I bet he does too.

He said the bill was meant to honour the government's pledge to Parliament when it first took office, on improving the quality of life of the people, promoting fairness and good governance and securing sustainable development.
What he meant to say was the bill was designed to enrich the members and supporter of the Thaksin government, promote the PTP and borrow more money for the trough through debt.

I wasn't worried about Bangkok violence til now. Seem the Thaksin led peace initiative has stirred up a hornets nest of trouble.

The more Thaksins machinations are thwarted the more desperate and aggressive he becomes, expect more trumped up charges, litigation and a few heads to roll.

The news they didn't want you to know............
"Thailand’s Finance Ministry has reassigned a deputy finance permanent secretary after leaked media reports last week that the much disparaged populist-policy
Thailand rice pledging scheme was likely to cost up to Bt100 billion (about US$3.348 billion) more than expected, exceeding the schemes budget by up to 186 per cent..........with the Thailand rice pledging scheme estimated to have already cost the government Bt587 billion (US$19.655 billion*) over the last two harvest years, while only Bt220 billion (US$7.366 billion) is expected to be generated from sales." http://www.establishmentpost.com/thailand-rice-pledging-scheme-leak-sees-finance-secretary-moved/"The outlook was offered at the "Thailand Rice Convention 2013", attended this week in Chiang Mai by more than 400 experts and traders from 40 countries......David Dawe, senior economist at the Agricultural Development Economics Division of the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), said that although global rice trading had increased due to world trade liberalisation, Thai exports could well face more difficulties because of high prices under the government's pledging policy.
"The rice-pledging scheme of the Thai government has challenged the country's trading, as it means higher stocks each year. The scheme is also a challenge in terms of budgetary losses, since the government needs to spend a high amount each year. As a result, the country's spending for other projects, such as on infrastructure, education and agricultural development, will be less," he said. http://www.nationmultimedia.com/business/Bleak-future-seen-for-Thai-rice-exporters-30207006.html -

No, their contractor organising the transfers in the whole of SEA for the US Navy has not paid. Don't know where this company is from, could be Thai, but I would think US. And this company is not paying it's local operators.
I'll bet the US contractor paid the Thai contractor and he's kept the money.
In any case, what do they expect anyone on the ship to do? It's not up to them to pay on behalf of the contractor.
No apparently that is not what happened.
You didn't even know about the underlying issue but have determined what happened very quickly.
It is up to the navy contractor to sort this out. If I were the Thai party who did not get paid last time and also know that in Pattaya the same thing happened, services rendered but payment not received, I would also use my only option: stop providing the service and try to get payment for the previous services first.
But then the mafia comes in and exhorts, cutting these contactors out and flattening their picket line.

I once read the Thais have the cunning of a fox and the strategy of a goldfish, I have since found that spot on.Gangsters run the transport system and have government officials in their pockets apparently, so tourists and locals alike are held to ransom on this issue ALL the time, its only when a big boat turns up and it becomes newsworthy does the rest of the world find out about the extortionate manner of transport operations on Phuket. Lets just smile, say Mai Pen Rai and let the locals take us for all we are worth as usual... My friend in China said to me that the difference between Chinese and Thai is that Chinese will find the goose laying the golden egg and keep it until it can lay no more eggs then bake it up and eat it, Thai would just eat it and not worry that they lost all the eggs that might have come from it... same way they treat tourists, expecting that the ones they rip off today will be replaced by new marks tomorrow. Always enjoyable to observe the amazing Thailand experience, after 23 years it hasn't changed much
PS: a goldfish has a 5 second memory span.
What was I trying to say?
And expats in Phuket have the memories of an Elephant. Your history follows you everywhere
Expats have the memory of elephants and the cunning of rabbits, just ask the indigenous females.
PS: I am not from Phuket, no real value there for me.
PSS: Rabbits live in thorny bushes and get eaten by the fox

Boys who contract HPV will exhibit wart like growths on the penis, similar to the vaginal warts which are a precursor to cervical cancer. Those of a certain inclination may also contract cancer of the anus. Vaccinating boys ensures at least they cannot pass a killer disease to their partners.
How do they know it is 100% effective? Extensive testing is done over many years before ANY vaccine is made available.
One of the most ridiculous things I have heard about this was christians in the US resisting this becoming a free vaccination in their state because it would encourage promiscuity. Sorry can't find the link.
BTW this is a virus, and AFAIK has never been transmitted by using talcum powder on your crotch, or from public toilet seats.
Now you don't like other people taking the piss out of your good info but then you seem to take the piss out of someone else's. I never said the HPV virus was transmitted by putting Talcum powder on your crotch did i? I said Talcum powder is considered a contributing factor to cervical cancar , also ovarian cancer and lung cancer. Talcum particles are basically a very similar family to asbestos particles. The only safe Talcum powders are those made from corn starch. The powder should not be used to dust the face of children as they inhale it. It should not be put on the crotch of females because particles will accumulate in the ovaries and else where. The info is sound, take it or leave it.
Sounds about right GJ, however I don't think its possible for talc to travel from the crotch to the ovaries and accumulate there. I believe the fallopian tubes are one way streets.

In a gallant display of political independence the Monetary Policy Committee has decided to decrease the Thai interest rates for the good of all Thais, as Thaksin demanded. They have indicated that the rationale was the lower-than-expected economic data in the first quarter which has caused less growth than expected, tepid domestic demand and fermented the growth of private credit and household debts. This situation is no way is a reflection of Thai government populist policies but the result of poor economic policies of US and Europe. The Monetary Policy Committee stated this change was not due to the constant public and private pressure by Thaksin and his henchmen to force the BOT to do as they demand but for a concern for all Thais.
This rate change and other government interventions may have the effect of lowering the exchange rate of the Thai baht and increasing imports such as fuel and electronics stimulating further inflation but countered by pointing out the lower interest rate will make debt cheaper and therefore increase overall GDP.
How utterly ridiculous,it's nothing to do with Thaksin.A rate cut has been on the cards for many, many months now,it's not exactly rocket science is it as your rice mountain piles up?
Do you have dyslexia? That what I wrote

According to TVF the Thai economy is in dire straits, so i am not sure what this article is all about.
Sent from my GT-N7000B using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app
Well they say the finance system cant go like the Great Depression anymore. THEY SAY TOOthat tge USA will never allow nukes in Nth Korea. They also say those creams on ya face keep you young and beautiful. well they didnt work for me and THEY forgot about corrupt and greedy lending for self gain. THAT is where THEY are going wrong.
As for Thailand being SUSTAINABLE. hmmm... More condos in Bangkok alone than there are people to buy them... And there is the rest of the country too. so lets see how long the balloon can float up before the air gets too cold and it drops back to earth.
A small physics lesson people... What goes up... Must eventually come down
I'm sure you know more than I but when I have a question I ask Bloomberg. I like Bloomberg. When it comes to Thailand's boom.
Economic growth in Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand has stoked consumption in Southeast Asia, attracting investments from companies including phone maker Nokia Oyj (NOK1V) and carmaker Ford Motor Co. (F) Most of Southeast Asia’s 600 million people -- the combined population of the U.S., Germany and Brazil -- will be middle class by 2020, and that will boost demand for food, beverages and other goods, according to Bain & Co. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-05-27/dhl-to-boost-asean-investment-on-economic-growth-southeast-asia.html
Cadmium Scare Boosts Appeal of North China Rice, Thai Imports.
Thai stocks are still relatively quite attractive given the outlook for the economy and company earnings,” Adithep Vanabriksha, the head of equities for Thailand at Aberdeen, which oversees about $314 billion, said by phone from Bangkok.
Wow your right! This is sarcasm
I cant believe you would use the first article as the only mention of Thailand was the quoted one. DHL to Boost Asean Investment as Growth Bolsters Shipping, the article was about Indonesia and Changi.
The second article is a fluff piece by "Petcharat Powattanasatien, who helps oversee about $30 billion as the head of equity investment at Bangkok-based Kasikorn Asset Management Co., said by phone on March 4." Its basically a spin on why the exodus of foreign investor from the SET is a good thing.
"Never before have Thai stocks rallied so much at a time when foreign investors were heading for the exit. The benchmark SET Index (SET) rose 4.6 percent last month even as international money managers sold a net $583 million of the nation’s shares, the biggest outflow among 10 Asian markets tracked by Bloomberg."
Some real good news there CMK

How do you know if a country is doing well? How would one give a valid response? Facts and figures?
GDP?
Unemployment?
External debt per capita?
Foreign investment?
Currency direction?
Rate of inflation?
Kelly, can you please explain to me why governments and prognosticators and the IMF and whoever puts any weight on a country's GDP at all?
The GDP doesn't belong to the government. It belongs to the private sector.
In Thailand's case, it belongs mostly to the big foreign corporations who could pull it right out.
So how would anyone care about what Thailand's GDP is when it isn't Thailand's?
Next, GDP starts with "gross." You're been a businessman. You know that a business can have a big gross and lose money. You could be grossing 100 billion dollars a year in your restaurant chain, but don't tell me about that. Tell me what your net profit is, and what percentage that is of your gross income and I'll tell you how stable you are over time. Get it? Your gross is irrelevant without additional information. It certainly is irrelevant to Thailand when that GDP is foreign investment which is unhappy with them.
Again don't tell me about today or yesterday and then tell me tomorrow has to be the same. It's never that way for any country. Just look around.
I teach a course in Econ 101 that will answer all your questions but they are not the subject of this thread. For the purpose of this thread I think the comparison of GDP between Thailand and Burma is relevant. Burma is 50 billion and Thailand is 350 billion USD.
Kelly, that's yesterday. Japan and Western companies are dumping billions into Burma, and Burma has the oil and gas wealth. The major economies are moving on and Thailand is so yesterday.
Tell me what it will be 5 or 10 years from now after the major Western economies, Japan and big oil get finished pouring money into Burma.
But it's no use telling what's happening today. I don't know why. It's in the news. I'm not making this stuff up.
When I was predicting things over the last several months I would have seen your doubt. But now it's in the news. It's happening.
I predict in 5 years Thailand will be an economic basket case if Thaksin continues to get his way. Look at his economic miracle he has produced in only 2 years.............
