Why is the military not out fighting the fires?

From other indications this smoke could be with us for the entire month. There is no rain insight. Until the rain or heavy winds come it remains. I am staying inside how ever I feel sorry for those who have to work in it. The government has not shown serious interest and seeded the clouds or assigned more fire fighters. Don't think it will happen.

The rules are made dailiy. People never know that they can change daily.

If you think the beaches are trashy take a look at the front yards of Thai houses. Inside looks worse than outside. Not sure why they have no pride in their property. The village compound next door to me is like a slum.

Won't work, nothing works because Thai's ignore all rules and Police don't enforce laws; end of !

better to drink yourself to death in hot weather surrounded by lovely young prostitutes than back home in the local talking about how cold it is and going home to fat mess of a wife
For the 35 years I have been in Thailand I have worked as a consultant or run my on business. If you are not gainfully employed it is easy to get addicted to sitting around all day and drinking yourself to death. I know several people who went that way. I closed my food businesses in Samui, Phuket and Bangkok and moved to a small farm in Chiang Rai. At 85 I can stay busy but less than before. With two commercial fish ponds and lots of pumps to maintain I don't have a lot of time to do other things. I have written on book and am on my second. At my age drinking is not much fun anymore. I do miss my family in the USA. We talk on Apple Facetime frequently. Not much night life in Chiang Rai.

You don't need Medicare to use Tricare here in Thailand....I use it for me and my family (2Kids)....the catch is you pay up front and you get reimbursed via direct deposit after you upload your receipts via Tricare Online.
Tricare is only for retired military and their families not for ordinary Americans. NO HELP FOR ME AND OTHERS.

And what about those over 60 who can’t get insurance? Is there going to be a plan available for them?
Hoping that the government will make a plan available for us over 60. They did it once so it would be good to go back and do it again.

Cigna Global
David Shield (cut off for new policies is I believe 64 or 65).
AXA several different policies
ACS

Pacific Cross
And many more. It is rare for an international insurer to have an enrollment cut off earlier than age 65.
Please work with a broker. Suggest AA Brokers. There are important differences across policies. Broker will provide comparidon charts of options.

Are these companies all located in Thailand? I live in Thailand not Europe.

Kindly give me the name of many insurance companies that offer new health insurance to people over 60. I need to buy.
-
As a rule, if you are over 60 you can not buy a new health insurance policy. If you already have, they simply renew on a yearly basis. They can refuse to renew if they wish based on experience.
Not sure why the government does not offer this insurance like they did before. When the military took over they cancelled and failed to renew. Payment would ease the load on hospitals that have patients that have no insurance.

Anyone making wine home?
The government does not want us to buy US beef or imported good wine. They keep adding taxes to make it prohibitive.

If you can't get wine from Burma, Laos or Cambodia give up drinking the expensive rot gut sold in Thailand Chuen Lek Pai is the person who started all the taxes on wine (now more than 420%) he did this because Thaksin was showing off with his friends drinking expensive imported wines. The government will never reduce the import tax on the rot gut they put in boxes in Bangkok. All wines in China are reasonable. While working there for several years I could buy great world class wines for about the equivalent of B300.

What about 3bb and AIS? They have fiber optic cables is that not cable?
I stand corrected. I had 3BB before but have not had AIS cable. Anyone have experience on the AIS Cable and how many channels you get? Not sure if these are cable TV now. When I had 3bb it for internet only. Do they broadcast news and movies?

lol, I think I pay about 900 baht annually for cable tv.
True Vision is the only nationwide Cable TV distributor. There is a B900 plan without international news except for free BBC. If you want the full load with movies it is B2792. Thai TV is free.

My complaint is about the unfair trade practices of Thailand. The cost of imported goods could be reasonable if the import tax was not so high. I am not trying to tell you that chicken on the stick and sticky rice prices has increased. I do know that most prices are indirectly controlled by the price of oil. Cheap oil, cheap prices. It is not the price of imported goods but the high import taxes that you have to pay. After living here 35 years, yes I have seen prices increase as commodity follow demand, inflation which includes oil. They are still a lot cheaper and available than many other countries. In Chiang Rai you can't buy any beef that is eatable but the pork is great. We grow our own vegetables and fish so we eat reasonable. I have given up on ever eating beef again as my teeth can't handle the 10 year old milk cows that have stopped calving and then slaughtered and sold by Makro. For many years I grew and aged eatable beef that sold good on the market. 21 days of dry aging an animal that has been in the feed lots for 3 months is not bad. Beef Pro in Supanburi is the largest grower of beef cattle in Thailand with average herd of 5,000 do an excellent job for eatable beef. I sold theirs for 15 years. Unfortunately they don't deliver to Chiang Rai. With the free trade agreement between Thailand and Australia imported beef is not so expensive but it is all grass fed and no better than Beef Pro. MY LAST COMMENT ON THIS SUBJECT. THANKS!

Many ties sleep on the floor, eat on the floor and use a hole in the floor for a toilet. This is the the way they grew up and still like it. Many western people choose not to live on sticky rice and chicken on a stick as their main meal. I chose to live a comfortable life style and not sacrifice what makes me comfortable and taste good. TO EACH HIS OWN.
The standard for people who disagree with you on this forum is, why don't you go back where you came from. If you wish to do so you don't this kind of advice from others on this forum. People chose to live they way they want to and don't need life style advice from others.

THE COST OF LIVING FOR FARANGS IN THAILAND CONTINUES TO RISE. PAYING B2792 PER MONTH FOR CABLE TV IS JUST AN EXAMPLE. The government continues to increase the tax of wine to the point where it is not worth drinking. To say the least about the quality of the box wine. Thank god I live close to the border. Imported foods from Top's is almost prohibitive. Maybe they think we should eat sticky rice and chicken on the stick every meal. The import tax on US beef is impossible starting at 50% ++. If the US put this level of tax on importing Thai rice they would get real in a hurry. No beef fit to eat and rot gut wine is a way of protecting peoples income as no one wants to pay the price. The 420% import tax on wine for a country that has no market for local made wine is crazy.

Agreed, there's so many idiots on the road here that you need to do all you can to protect yourself, you can be the safest driver in the world and still get taken out by a moron, a helmets your 1st line of defence against said moron and the concrete that'll pop your head like an egg.
Special mention must go to the parents that ride their kids to school and don't wear a helmet, they're in the same category with the above mentioned morons.
When there is no enforcement of the law there can be no respect for the law. Having lived in Phuket many years I know much money the police have to collect monthly to send to the head man in Bangkok. The easy way they do this is stoping motorcycles. A drunk riding a motorcycle hit the back of my truck when it was stopped. He was injured no license or insurance. I pleaded with the police to jail him until he paid for my truck. The police said is just a poor simple drunk and you will never get paid. Use your own insurance.

Put a little money in and finish the ring road in Chiang Rai. Work on the road from Chiang Kong to Chiang Rai completely stopped a couple of months ago. WHERE IS THE MONEY?

If you value your feet I suggest that you were closed toe shoes while cycling. Crocs should be good enough. Easy on and off. Flaps are bad news.

It is too late to stop the Chinese unless you embargo their goods. There will be no freedom in Laos and Cambodia in the next few years.

If you can handle the cost, the Residence Permit is the best answer. No more visas required. You never have to leave the country but if you do you must have a reentry permit.

The Chinese are making great progress taking over Laos. Cambodia is next. Economically they are aiming to take over the world. Their new big navy base in north Africa is a sight to behold. Think about have they dump more than $500 billion of their junk on the US market yearly. They refuse to allow US products into China without huge import taxes. THERE IS NO SLOWING OF THE CHINESE.

The Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency’s fire-monitoring system, citing a satellite image as of 1.36am on Tuesday,
Said there were 1,969 hot spots in nine northern provinces. Mae Hong Son had the most with 821 hotspots, followed by Chiang Mai (478), Chiang Rai (232), Lampang (116), Tak (89), Nan (77), Phayao (74), Phrae (63), and Lamphun (19).
We had no rain since Jan. Not sure that the limited military could be effective with this many fires.
Essentially nothing can be done except wait for rain. Typically April has 10 rain days. Waiting for one to come.
I continue to stay inside most of the time as my lungs are weak from so many years in the steel mills.
