Thanks for the reply Visasplus. I'll do like you say and pop the originals in post. I'll leave a note with the copies to say that if they need the original signed copy then to contact fiancee. I looked into couriers- £50 for a few pages of A4!! Thanks for all the help on this application.

Or could I get my friend who is a Thai airways captain to certify them?
-
Hi,
In my haste to catch the post before the bank holiday, I forgot to self-certify the copies of my passport pages. Fiancee is due to hand in documents on 16th April so not a lot of time to get a signed copy over to BKK what with the Easter weekend. How important is it to have these self-certified? Could I sign a copy then scan and email them to fiancee or would that not be acceptable? My fiancee has got my old passport copies which were certified by our vicar, but signed back in 08.
Thanks for any advice on this, kicking myself now!

Thanks for the advice Visasplus, just about got everything together now. Will get an up to date P60 for the last tax year then should be set. My fiancee seems to think that I have to fill in a Sponsorship decleration form online. I hfound one somewhere on the UKBA for printing off and signing but I didn't think this was necessary for a fiancee visa or am i wrong?
-
Thanks for confirming that, I'll put the appeal no. in the explanation. My last (i think..) query is about the question "do you intend to work..." For a fiancee visa I am assuming the answer should be "no" and not "yes- when i have received a marriage visa", would that be correct?

Back again,
On filling in the application, if a visa has been refused in the past but then the decision was overturned, does this count as a refusal? I think it does but would just like to check that.

Thanks rawhod- some good tips there. I hadn't thought of organizing into two seperate files. That would make things more organized. I see what you mean now about the additional information section- will make use of that.

Thanks for the replies. I perhaps should have made it clearer but I've made an index for the supported documents as there's around 50 pages to cover the last 7 years of our relationship. In the index I've used sponsor/applicant but in my sponsor's letter for the ECO I've used more personal terms ie fiancee. I didn't realise that the supporting documents had to be submitted online as well. Last time I thought the form was completed online but the supporting documents were taken to VFS. I may be wrong, mind.

Hello,
Just getting all the documents together with explanations. Should I use the 3rd person and describe my fiancee and myself as Sponsor and Applicant, or is it best to use names/fiancee? Have been using the 3rd person and it comes across slightly impersonal. Any ideas or any general advice? Thanks!
- I haven't booked a ceremony yet but have got correspondence from registry office and a reverend friend who will also be playing a part in our wedding, most likely in the form of a blessing. There's also pictures of venue and prices, should this suffice? I don't want to set anything in stone until visa acquired..

There may have been a misunderstanding when I asked a relation of the couple's application. It does seem unlikely that if you spilled the beans on your intent to stay on after your visit for marriage then your visa would be refused. I had not heard it being done before and thought it foolhardy that you would not follow the correct procedure. I'll verify the facts once I catch up with them.

I know of someone who has managed to apply for a visit visa for marriage (6 months) successfully for a thai fiancee and she is now happily in the UK. I think they plan to apply for another visa without leaving the UK. My understanding was that you have to leave within 6 months for this visa and in fact you need the pricey fiancee visa. They declared their intent in the application and it went through fine. What are the chances of being able to remain in UK after the visit visa for marriage? I may end up going this route to save the £££s! Thanks for the advice.

It was refused under a technicality. It was at the time when student visa rules changed. She applied under the old rules, there was a problem with UKBA taking the payment, 3 months later they let her know about this, resubmitted application which then came under the new rules (about extending visas) and was refused. She had a 6 month visit visa no questions asked last year, and has traveled back and forth 4 times to Thailand so hopefully that stands for something.

Thanks for the replies- I just wanted to make sure that's all. She was at uni for one year, applied for an extension, which got ballsed up and didn't get a definite answer from UKBA until about 9 months after her application.

Hello,
I am after some clarification on: 'you have been living together in a relationship akin to marriage or civil partnership which has been existing and genuine (not like a 'marriage of convenience') for at least 2 years'.
Now I have read in some places you can have up to 3 months apart during this time and another 6 months apart. Which would be right at present, if either? My girlfriend lived with me for about 2 years but it may just fall under 2 years when she returned to Thailand. If the period doesn't stretch over 2 years would this be deemed inadmissable (23 months)? Also this was from 2008-2010, Hope that's not too long ago. She has been back since for 6 months visit and I over to Thailand.
Thanks for any help on this.

Hello, I am wondering what is needed to drive in the UK on a visit visa or the simplest way. Currently in possession of just a thai licence. Is it worth getting the International licence? Thanks for any help on this, Fred

Now that would have been a good idea- to get an inflatable canoe for the holiday! Ah well, flying out tomorrow! Sevylor Colorado's look good as well lonewolf. My link

Thanks guys,
I will be headed down to Phuket to see how my cousin's getting on there so will look up John Gray I reckon. Tomahawk- what was the company in Phuket you said making canadian canoes (out of interest!)?
Thanks,
Fred

Hi,
I've looked all over but I can't find anywhere offering open Canadian canoes for hire in Thailand/ I've never seen them in Thailand before but thought I would ask here anyhow. If not, can anybody recommend a sea kayaking (sit in) company in Thailand as am looking to go for a paddle. Thanks!

Hello,
I thought I had better ask as I know the visa situation tends to change a fair bit. I plan to visit Thailand for 2 months (Feb-March).I am British and travelling form London with EVAair. I am wondering if I should err on the side of caution and get a tourist visa before I leave or would I be ok to get 30 days on entry and then leave to get re-stamped? Not sure if it still works like this or how the visa run situation is. Thanks for any help on this one.

Hello!
After 5 years together living in Thailand and then in England with girlfriend here studying, as well as a previous visit to the UK, her application for a visa extension to study was refused. This was due to the new course not starting within 28 days. She is now back in Thailand and although I plan to return to Thailand for a few months during the arable "low" season in the new year, she would not like to miss my sister's wedding in December. I am curious as to whether as her last application was refused if there is any restriction on when she can re-apply? Someone had said 6 months but can't find that anywhere. As proof that she will leave is already having left UK 2x and also as I will have a flight booked to return with her. We also have all the usual documents, letters, bills after 5 years together.
The next move now is to take the next step with something more permanent- the "M" word! I see it is cheape, r to marry in Thailand than UK due to the added fees. Is either route easier than the other as I'm not fussy where we marry, as long as it is the simplest way! Apologies a bit long winded and thanks for the ongoing support here.

Thanks for the replies. I think as she had intended to return home for a brief visit in near future to visit family that she re applies in BKK. I'm unsure of the exact date of the start of her next course but it was a continuation at the school. The school helped with the application, and in hindsight I should have paid more attention but with the rules changing yet again I decided the school must know best. That clears up that one anyhow and I guess can take comfort in that she met all other criteria. This may help in re-applying from Thailand. Thanks for the advice here- Thaivisa really is a blessing!

Hello,
In December last year an application for a second student visa was made at the end of my girlfriend's first year studying here and the application made here in UK. This was done under the old rules or as they were changing. Unfortunately in March we finally received notification that there had been a problem with the cheque and so therefore another cheque was written and posted to pay for the application. Today received the result and it is a refusal due to 'the fact that there is a gap of more than 1 month between the end of your current leave 02 December 2009 and the start date of your new course which commenced on 29 March 2010...'. It seems that they haven't taken into account the fact that at the time of the original application there was less than 1 month between the dates. All the points were claimed and so this seems to be the only problem. She now has to leave the country ASAP. I would appreciate any advice on whether there is a chance of an error by the UKBA but it seems unlikely. It's a shame they still wanted the money off us. Thanks for any advice with this one, am feeling pretty gutted.

I must have missed something in doing our fiancee visa application- I didn't realize there was a minimum of £13700. My P60 for April 2012 shows £15,974, however strictly I earn around £10500 the rest being overtime. Earnings are low due to it being a family farming business with 'perks'. Hopefully the visa will go through OK. How set in stone is the £13,700 threshold anyhow?
