  1. Gin fizz? Bluddy riff raff.

    It's Pimm's No.1 or you're on latrine duty again.

Pimm's No.1? There are only 2 types of people drink Pimm's No.1. The Queen Mother and bladdy pooftahs. Now seeing as the dear old Queen Mum is pushing up daisies that must make you a bladdy shirt lifting tail gunner with no more right to live on God's green earth than a cockroach. Bladdy hel_l! Now where'd I put my Purdey's? Time to give this unmitigated bounder both barrels! :)

Good God Watson! Some cad has made away with the entire stock of gin and bounder has left but a bottle of Pimm's No. 1!

    Crime of the Century Sherlock!!!

... Luckily the daft fool has left behind a stick that shows evidence of heavy wear...which in most Englishmen creates the affect of a heavy speech disorder, making his speech unintelligible Watson. He shouldn't be hard to find...

    Relative now a prime suspect

Co-owner of vast land tracts in Chon Buri made death threat, police allege

Police investigating the murder of wealthy businesswoman Sunattee Nerngchamnong discovered a potential lead yesterday - business conflicts she had over a vast area of land in Chon Buri worth Bt10 billion jointly owned with a relative.

Sunattee also jointly operated two markets in prime parts of Ban Bueng. Police said she received a death threat after she refused to comply with a co-owner's demand to increase the monthly stall rental from Bt500 to Bt1,500.

Its sad to think that someone who apparently thought charitably about her tenants would be so ruthlessly killed...even more horrible to think it could be a relative of hers!

My sympathies to the family--siajai duay...

  3. It's quite comfortable where it is thank you. Public school education don't cha know. Now where that gin fizz you insufferable cad? :D

Of course! Now toodle pip old bean and get me another gin fizz while I put down a few fuzzy wuzzys before breakfast. Make sure it's cold mind you or you'll get a dam_n good thrashing! :D

LOL :) No, master, don't beat me again!!!

Just wanted to make a "pointed remark" that your arse is no better than any other bloke's assets ('cept that the master has a stick up his).

    Gin fizz coming right up!

  4. Of course the best part being the most powerful country in the world will always have the "stigma" of having their language called "American English"

I've never met anybody say "Hey do you speak American?" ...

So basically no matter how widely spoken American English is compared to the original us Brits were still the first. Forever and ever amen...

It's a bit like would you rather have an original Ferrari 250 GTO or a replica?

And I've never heard anybody say "Hey do you speak United Kingdom English?" There is no such thing. The United Kingdom( of Britain and Northern Ireland), is made of Scots, Irish, and Welsch, as well as those from England. English is not a language owned by a single country, just as England is not a country in itself. There are Scottish, Irish, Welsh versions of the English language within the UK itself. Are you saying that Scottish, Irish and Welsch languages have no merit? If so, you are about to start a civil war in your own country about the England version of the dialect, being better than all others. What arrogance!!!

Just as the languages spoken by Australians, New Zealanders, Canadians, South Africans, Americans are all bonafide English, so are the Scottish, Irish and Welsh dialects. If you want to argue that your so called "England's English" is better than everyone else's, you will be offending these countries, not to mention a whole lot of people!

As for being the first, I believe the model T is an excellent analogy of the type of automobile the "old English language" represents. Crank it up!!!

  5. There are a few branches of the health food company Lemon Farm, which are located in Bangkok. One of the branches in located in Sukhumvit 39, behind the 7-11, ironically located on the backside of a gas station. Its not a big store but it has a fair amount of fresh foods. It has a sushi shop, which also sells different varieties of soup.

There is another branch of Lemon Farm, located at Chaengwattana area. Check the website by the same name for details.

There also used to be a shop close to the BTS Ari station, however, think it has relocated, possibly closeby since there is also a vegetarian center, closer to Ari Samphan (Phahonyotin 5), on the opposite side of the street.

  6. QUOTE (loquent @ 2009-11-28 23:09:59) *

    The American educational system ...

is that an oxymoron , like military intelligence?

    Better example:

    British snob

I don't think you quite understand "oxymoron", or you wouldn't have used "British snob" as an example of one.

Oh you mean like British humour!!! I was going to use British intelligence as an example but thought it was too obvious... :)

  7. When I first came to Bangkok, I witnessed a similar event, except the thai boyfriend was accompanied by 2 other guys. I called the police to report it. When I finally spoke to a policeman who spoke English, he asked me what the problem was (with BF hitting woman) and just laughed. Sadly, I think abuse between a man and his girlfriend is seen as their own business here.

  8. Try craigslist thailand for 2nd hand stuff. Also bahtsold has a household goods for sale. Here's one I found:

    http://www.bahtsold.com/detail.php?id=49116

There are also a couple of 2nd hand stores in the Thonglo area--one in Suk 49 and the other at SK Mansion close to the BTS station.

I've also bought some smaller rugs from Index, which has both cheaper and more expensive area rugs. Have to rummage around a bit... MBK 5th floor.

  9. Shopping? Sounds like the Night Market area to me. Recently stayed at the Centara Duangtawan Hotel which is conveniently located next to the night market. Its a nice inexpensive hotel with a great breakfast and fitness facilities. The downside is that you can hear your neighbors' sneeze (thin walls?) and the elevators are very slow. If you are a light sleeper and a type "A" personality, this place is not for you. Otherwise its a great deal. Agoda website had the deluxe rooms for a good price.

  10. rgs - I know about that - I used to hang out at Tokyo Joes in Soi 26 whern I was in Bangkok. Love the place and the music!!

The rumour I heard was that it was back open and that Blue on Blue were playing there last Friday! Love Blue on Blue nearly as much as I love Soi Dog.

Yep, Tokyo Joe's was a great place! Great blues music...Googled Tokyo Joe's and found their my space web page, which said they are closed for the time being. It also said "We hope to return when the climate is more favorable." Hopefully that will be soon.

  11. Pizza at Via Vai! Great salad bar....

Some other friends went to the Texas for the turkey meal. Heard it was packed!!!

No Yank able to stomach a bit of humble pie this year then? Thought not. Mind you, you could always follow Obama's example and spare the turkey. Probably explains why he's a member of the Stars and Stripes Fat Boy Club.

So Super Size me, gastronauts with emphasis on noughts.

Then there's Homer ........ the real American hero.

Oh, there you go with the American bashing again! Its no wonder that we celebrate Independence Day from the Brits! Wank_r!!!

  12. Interesting post, since there were many recent headlines about the French being the worst tourists:

    http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8...l?xid=rss-world

Funny how easily everyone is willing to jump on the Americans. To see for yourself, just google "worst tourists", or "worst tourists in the world" and see what the results are!

However, I'm sure there is a poll for everyone's purposes and perhaps biases...

  13. Again. I absolutely believe that a kindhearted tip now and again generates a great deal of goodwill.

And I believe that people that are good at heart produce good will through their actions. There are many actions we can take to show empathy and respect for others, regardless of whether they are maids, food servers or security guards. Of course, money does not have to be involved. Tips are just an easy way to show a little kindness and empathy for the difficult lives many of the lower paid thai people have. I'm sure that those that choose not to tip, demonstrate their respect and kindness in other ways.

  14. Rosabieng on Sukhumvit Soi 11 (with the name spelled various ways) is a really nice A/C indoor and outside restaurant with a huge menu of Thai dishes, good food, a nice outdoor patio and small pond with often live (and sometimes LOUD) music, good service and fair prices.

However, the closest I'd say it gets to romantic is they have a (one) wood gazebo and table for dining that sits on the edge of their pond on the edge of their outdoor dining area. I particularly like sitting there, if you can avoid the buzzing mosquitos... But every time I've been lately, that table has been taken, presumably for obvious reasons.

I always seem to get that table, as well as the mosquitoes!!!

I also enjoy L'Opera( on Suk. 39), which is very cozy and reasonable as long as you watch your wine intake. They also let you bring your own bottle for a reasonable corkage charge(300 baht), which is great as long as you don't bring a bottle of Mad Dog...

  15. I had a tennis elbow for several months, very painful. Did nothing about it except for resting it but it actually just got a bit worse.

Then one day I had a Thai massage and while the girl massaged my shoulder blade, on the same side as my bad elbow, I could feel that the pain suddenly just disappeared.

I could have sworn that the pain was in the elbow but pain is funny that way and the actual cause of the pain can and often is somewhere else. Anyway, this was several months ago and the pain never came back.

As swimming move your shoulder blades around it makes sense that this could ease the pain but have someone give your shoulder a massage. For me the pain disappeared after 5-10 seconds massage in the right spot!!

The muscle that causes tennis elbow begins from the wrist, runs through the arm, shoulder and through the back. One of the reasons swimming is great is because it works the entire muscle rather than an isolated part. Its conceivable that a massage could put a displaced muscle back into position. However generally therapy to strengthen the muscle following an adequate period of rest is best. For those of us with limited budgets, swimming is a good alternative to professional therapy. It provides a low impact resistance workout.

  16. I don't know if there are job opportunities for you at either of these places but here is the name of a couple of the larger and best tennis facilities on this side of Sukhumvit. They both have web addresses but don't think I am allowed to list them. Just google the names and you should get the info you need.

Frank Cuesta Tennis Academy (at Sukhumvit 50). 6623110474

Piyarom Sports Club (at Sukhumvit 103 Udomsuk)

If you have the skills and the right credentials, you might get lucky. After all, the Thai National tennis coach is (or was) an American.

  17. Here's the article about the European royalty that died while being imprisoned due to an immigration violation:

    http://archives.starbulletin.com/2006/08/1...ws/story04.html

He was actually from Liechtenstein, not Spain.

    Read the article-------

After seeing that he had missed the departure date on his visa, he took a pen and changed the 20 to 29.

"Immigration officials caught the alleged alteration and Hohenlohe was arrested on suspicion of forging documents."

He WAS NOT arrested for immigration violations (overstay). He was arrested for FORGING DOCUMENTS.

I suspect you have read the whole article either. The article also reads:

" he could have avoided the arrest had he paid a fine of $20 a day." Sounds very much like a standard fine for overstay.

Whatever...My point is that being detained for an immigration violation is a serious thing. As stated in the thaivisa.com warning about immigrations violations: (You can be) "detained in an Immigration Detention Center for a few days while your case is processed. Needless to say, this is an experience you can do without, as conditions inside have been described by Amnesty International as 'cruel and degrading' and 'seriously overcrowded'." In this case, it was fatal.

  18. Thank you, will go and check them out. It looks like it's going to cost me an arm and a leg, need to get a root canal and a crown :)

I actually go to Srinakarinwirot University to do my dental work. If you are not in a rush, then its worth checking out as it is cheaper than most places. If you are in pain, go to a regular dentist. Their number is 02-649-5227 however, they don't speak much English there.

If you have the time, go to Sukhumvit 23 at the beginning of the soi. Get on the motorbike and tell them you want to go to Srinakarinwirot. It will cost you 10 baht. Then you will have to walk to the back of the campus, past the cafeteria to find the dental office/building. The walk will take about 10 minutes. They will first have you examined, probably x-ray the problem area, diagnose the problem and then you will have to wait a couple weeks to actually have an appointment. If you have the patience, its worth it. If not, go the Dental Hospital route.

  19. I recommend Honjyo, which is a very nice restaurant located just opposite the Emporium, near the stairs of the BTS station. Even tho' they have an expensive dinner menu, they have daily lunch specials for about 250 baht plus tax. Their food is very good and the restaurant itself is quite attractive, although a bit dark. The best deal is for ladies only, which is a combination sushi/sashimi lunch set, which sells for a mere 180 baht...It is a very generous lunch set including the best egg custard I've had(generally don't touch the stuff). The food is great, the atmosphere authentic and the drinks--maybe a bit expensive. Watch your drink consumption and you will have a nice, inexpensive Japanese lunch option on Sukhumvit. Just make sure you bring a lady friend so you can sample the "ladies only" lunch set.
