  1. I don't think it's a good idea to 'randomly' visit someone like that..if you know of a specific person that is having a hard time and needs help, particularly needs financial help-ie putting money into their jail account-then you can help that person..

bt when you show up randomly like that, not even being a journalist who is writing about the conditions there, you are just clogging the system, the visitation at those prisons is VERY crowded, people are waiting for legal help, they are trying to get a glimpse of a loved one, your putting legitimate visits at an inconvenience so you can gawk at some random prisoner..

Also you put the inmates themselves at an inconvenience, when you visit someone there-they have to change their personal cloths into this dirty prison garb ( i heard this through the grapevine), possibly miss one of the food handouts, wait in lines and all to see someone that has no business.. You have no business there, it's not a zoo and it's NOT a tourist attraction..just stay away from that place.

    What rubbish.

No doubt there are busy times at prisons. I have visited a prison twice in Thailand and have not been in a queue of any significance.

Ignore the above, go have a look, its an education.

  2. I have driven in Thailand on and off for over a decade, never had an accident.

I try to drive like the locals, and generally keep my eyes wide open.

I find that having loud music playing (techno) keeps me calm and stops me using my horn and middle finger. I usually have a book handy for traffic jams too. Who cares if they toot to move me on?

The worse thing about driving in Thailand is when I have idiots in the car saying "Look at that!", do they really think I am going to?

Never stopped to count bodies so have no idea how many I have passed while driving.

  3. So,

After numerous repairs and plunges and snakes etc etc the result is a toilet that works sometimes and then stops.

There is no venting and the toilet pipes join at some point, thus all the burping sounds.

I am of course arguing with the landlord that he never rented the property on the basis of NO TOILET tissue to be flushed, if he had I would have expected lower rent or chosen another property.

It looks like its 2 inch pipes that are coarsely coated in cement or something anyway so all tissue will catch.

5 repairs so far, one of them didn't last 12 hrs it filled with water over nite and it stayed there, thus the level of workmanship is highly questionable in any case. Couldn't even fix the sink blockage.

This is not a troll btw as some smart @rse tried to indicate above.

  4. So I have a ground floor apartment in a 10-15yr old complex in Bangkok.

Ever since I moved in both toilet bowls have had flushing issues. There was even a free plunger here when I moved in, a sure sign of problems to come.

I am a typical kiwi and am used to septic tank setups from childhood. I know what should not be flushed down the toilet, eg; face tissues, tea leaves, banana skins etc.

So when I have a dump I usually double up the tissue before I take a swipe.

And thus the problem, the toilet blocks up at least once a week, in fact when it doesn't block up it burps back air from the drain pipe. If I flush one toilet the other one burps as well.

So recently both the toilets went on strike, thus I had to call in the building management to get the handy man to clean it up.

He did in a fashion, he had to use my kitchen gloves, my hose and my bucket, so you know he was a professional NOT. Needless to say, he did clear both blockages and left feces all over both toilet floors the B@stard. He is not allowed back in this apartment.

    But there is more...

This last week one toilet blocked up real bad, I poored every imaginable chemical down the drain, plunged it etc etc, and no movement. I got the landlord to get in a REAL professional.

This guy arrived with the electric snake (but no gloves or hammer) and did his best, it turns out he had to remove the toilet to clear it.

But I am TOLD, that after 40 plus years of doubling toilet paper before wiping that this is the source of ALL the problems and that I have to stop doing that.

    We will see...

Do you double up before wiping? (and probably do double up after reading this!)

  5. Please respect the laws of Thailand.

hey yingyo, who are you expecting us to respect, the laws, the Gov,the police, for sure you're not asking the tiny minority farang population to respect the law 65,000,000 Thai can't find the time or inclination. Now if you're a Thai person I give you room for being in Fantasy Land but if you're some farang do gooder, blow me.

    Yingyo is right mate.

If some foreigner came to your country wouldn't you expect them to get license and do the right thing? Its not a matter of doing as the locals do. You are a guest, you are expected to play by the rules. Get over your white mans superiority complex and obey the rules.

If you don't and you get caught pay the fine/tea money and don't whinge about it.

    Ignore the above instructions.

Do what the locals do and wing it, if you get stopped raise your voice, stand up, swing your arms, and then you will be let go.

    But...

Every now and again they will draw a gun and shoot you.

    Its pot luck some times.
