  1. Having rekindled my interest in keeping a tropical fish tank went off down to the outlet under the village mall to find it appears to have closed down, on the first floor there appears to be a new supplier but he informs me he's down from Bangkok on a trial basis only for 3 months and will pack up unless business is worthwhile. So before I take the plunge and spend my money on a setup to find I cannot get further supplies does anyone know of any other outlets in either Hua Hin or Cha-Am where I could get tanks and fish etc.

  2. Have enjoyed listening to Hua Hin Radio transmitting on FM 102.50 both in the car and the garden but cannot seem to tune in over the past few days, anyone know what's happened to it, has it closed down, just off the air temporarily or moved to another wavelength?

  3. Yes, similar happened to me, but strangely enough not my wife, we arrived late july with retirement visa's, end of August we went to immigration to get a proof of residence letter for car purchase, on going through my documents, the official got out a rule book in perfect English stating that we should have registered within 24 hours of arrival, we smiled, apologised saying we were not aware, he smiled back, continued with the documentation we needed, he then aopologised but said he had to fine me for late registering, not sure what the fine was but total for everything was 1200 baht. I paid with a smile he then smiled and said off you go to buy your car. he then proceeded to do my wife a proof of residence letter but didn't mention at all about her not registering and didn't charge her a single Baht for anything.

  4. Look for a little rubber button near the carburetor that you press to prime the engine. Press it a couple of times until fuel starts to squirt out. Then try pull starting. The Honda I bought recently has this button.

I was disappointed with the Briggs and Stratton lawnmower I looked at. The shop prepped it for purchase and once started sounded like a freight train, to top that off it blew more smoke than a mosquito fogger.

It went back into the shop and I took the Honda.

Mine doesn't appear have this button, but I've tried sqeezing the petrol pipe near the carb and it makes no difference at all, on enquiring in Homepro when I bought it the salesman said it didn't need one, the engine is a 5.5 OHC model, the instruction manual simply states move lever to start position and tug the pullcord.

  5. For over 20 years back in the UK, I had just 2 petrol lawnmowers, both Briggs and Stratton engines and both just about always started on the first pull of the starter even after a winter layoff. On moving here I decided to go for a top of the range Honda engine model and from day one its the most fifficult beast to start up. Once started it runs as sweet as you like. A typical day with it was like this morning, it must have taken around 50 pulls before it started with the lever in just about every position possible more than once, not so much as a cough or splutter, then when it did decide to start it did it as usual with no effort as if to laugh at me, to which I then needed a coffee break just to recover from the effort. So, what am I doing wrong with the thing, anyone else have the same problem, any tricks anyone knows about or do I simply have a Friday afternoon machine which will promptly be going in the bin sooner or later.

  6. Went to do our first 90 day report on Monday, went just after lunch as previous visits found this to be the best time as confirmed by one of the lovely immigration ladies there. They seem to be making a serious effort to improve some stretches of the road, but anyway, from the waterfall road where we live it only took just 20 minutes despite holiday traffic going through the town centre, we were in and out in just five minutes with both our extensions safely in the passport and including some friendly conversation with the official. Perhaps if you go in with a smile, exchange friendly conversation with them you'll be like us and have no hassle as we have had in three prior visits to them.

  7. After another attempted breakin at 2 am on Monday, our second in 10 weeks, (and I almost caught the b####r) all our teak windows at the back of the house look like a family of giant woodpeckers have been partying. I'm determined there won't be a third try, don't want anything ugly but anyone any idea where I could get some scrolled window security grills made, or the Spanish style not that there is anything Spanish about our house.

  8. Without going into too much detail, we were burgled the other evening and a rather substantial amount of my wifes jewellery along with not a small amount of cash taken (and we were only across the road outside chatting with our friends in their garden). Obviously they will be trying to sell the jewellery for cash and get only a very small amount of its actual worth, but where would they be likely to take it to sell and is it worth taking the time to look in these areas to see if it appears on any market stalls for resale, and indeed if we did see it what action could we take?

While in the police station reporting the theft, the couple next to us were also reporting a theft where they took the safe with then as well (just anticipating some replies).

  9. A couple of months ago I asked the question on bringing our dog into Thailand and got many helpful and supportive replies, now having gone through the procedure just a week ago, my experiences and advice is the following. Be organised, use only reputable companies and it isn't cheap. I don't know if I'm allowed to mention names but we used PetAirUK who were brilliant and amongst the cheapest of all quotes we got, they organised everything from kenneling to flights and all the export certificates required. They also organised an import agency at Bangkok called Santa Fe (Thailand) Ltd to handle the import procedure who again were excellent. We arrived on a different flight to our dog, but Santa Fe met us off our flight, simply took our passport and the import tax which had already been calculated before we left the UK (so no shocks on arrival), they then met our dogs flight, handled everything for us and then delivered our dog and all the required paperwork to the Novahotel at the airport where we were resting all without any input from ourselves whatsoever, it was all totally and completely hassle free for us. Anyone considering doing the same just put your confidence in the hands of the proffesionals and simply enjoy the experience. please feel free to contact me for more precise info.

  10. Just some info for the deprived and deranged, so sorry i took up some of your valued time. I'll go back to watching paint dry.

this from the Thai Consulate in Hull:-

    4. On arrival in Bangkok you will need to collect your pet(s). Usually they

will be in a cage on the baggage carousel !

    5. You then need to take your pet(s) to the Animal Import Desk located in

the airport where you will complete Import Documents. The officer on

duty will decide if the pet(s) needs to go into quarantine. Feedback

which we have received from other travellers indicates that pet dogs

and cats and not usually quarantined.

  11. Thanks lads for the kind advice, i always suspected that if i politely asked a sensible question I'd get the dogs abuse in replies, won't bother anyone again.

"LOOK INTO MY EYES, MY EYES ,MY EYES, 123 yr under.

Thank God for that, no more idiotic stupid harming mutt posts!

Do you stress when flying? Or get shittered on the free piss and black out 'till a hostess wakes you up the other end?

If you "love your dog" sit in the hold, with your dog for 14 hours.Do it :o

  12. Hi, I'm new, been reading the thread on pets into Thailand but still confused. We're retiring to Thailand early August and bringing our dog with us, we'll be using a pet transport company who arrange everything for us but they choose the flight which will undoutably be BA. The chances of us getting on a BA flight at short notice is minimal. Will our dog arrive on the luggage carousel or delivered into a cargo area and if we're not on the same flight how do we go about collecting her if on the luggage carousel. We do hope to arrange a flight for ourselves that will arrive a few hours before her flight but what if we cannot.

Oh my god!! are you sure the dog belongs to you!! Keep taking plenty of water with the pills and they might work.!!! I think the dog should arrive in first and you in the cargo bay!!

    Thailand need you.

    Regards
