Of course you do not need a O-A to retire in Thailand, you can come on a O visa or even a 30 day exemption and then complete the retirement process in Thailand. No questions are ever asked regarding criminal history and no checks are involved.
The only minor disadvantage is that you have to deal with Thai immigration soon after arrival, if you have a O-A you can wait up to 2 years before you have to get a retirement extension in Thailand.
If you have a income then there is never any need to tie up any money for immigration purposes.

I assume the car is registered in your name, not in your wife/girlfriend's name and not on finance.
You will not need to go to the transport office. There are two forms that you will need to sign and you will provide evidence of identity (passport copy) and copy of proof of address (Tabien Ban, Work Permit or letter from immigration).
Its easier than you might expect.
Its important to note the most of the confusion arises from the need for proof of address (which need not match the address in your car blue book). For Thai's its always a copy of Tabien ban (House Book), obviously most foreigners do not have a house book, which nessesitates either having a work permit or using a letter from immigration or even your consulate if they provide that service.
Broadly speaking the requirements to sell are similar to those required to buy.
If you sign the transfer form and the proxy form (download or get from vehicle office) then there is absolutely no need for you to go to the vehicle office at all.

Its a pity that this driver was not killed otherwise one road menace would have been eliminated. I really hope he would be killed very soon for the sake of public safety.
I expect hateful comments on this forum.. but this really is going too far.
We know nothing about the cause of this accident except what we are told by the media which in Thailand have an appalling record of just making shit up.
You hope he will be killed.... you are sick!

Couple days before New Years. I felt a twinge in a molar. Thought after the long holiday I would see the dentist. Went to bed NYE.....Woke up at 4am with the Mother of all throbbing toothaches....I was lucky to find an open pharmacy. I bought Tramadol and Amoxy with clauvonic acid 1000mg. took two of them a day and used tramadol the first day only as all the pain went away quickly. Root canal when the dentist came back from holiday.
I know this is what she is worried about so just have these two meds on hand.
You bought Tramadol over the counter ?? Where was this..

Don't be too hard on the OP, I hear a very high percentage of expats get confused and do not know the difference between a visa and an extension. Or a visa and an entry stamp. Or a extension and a 90 day report, or entry stamp and a 90 day report. It goes on and on.

Anything that could confuse them is bad, they are easily confused.
Last year I was flying to Amsterdam with my British passport from Bangkok, the checking guy was spending a lot of time looking through my passport and I asked him if I could help him, he said he was looking for my Visa. I asked, visa for what, he replied for the Netherlands. I explained that I am British and don't need a visa.. he looked confused.
"Mr" he said "UK not part of Schengen scheme, where your Visa ? " I explained again that as a British citizen I did not need one, the idiot wanted to argue with me and said that as UK is not part of the Schengen area I would need a visa... so I shouted at him to get a supervisor now and stop wasting my time.
He got a supervisor and they discussed it a bit and then he came back and said "no matter Mr, we let you go".

Some people may argue that almost all monks are fake, so where do you draw the line.

The plane depicted in the picture in not a 777 who has 3 rows of seats, more likely a 737 variety....
but for the local repotting the incident it's close enough.....
Its certainly a 777-200 as described. Some 777 configurations are different which is why you are confused.

No single phone is ever going to be right for everyone, but I had a 5S until last year and I upgraded to the 6. I will change "back" to an SE the moment they are on sale in Thailand.
For me (and millions of others) the iPhone 5 / SE is the perfect size. I thought I'd benefit from the bigger screen on the 6 but its just too big for me most of the time (the phone I mean), i am not talking about the 6 plus, just the standard "smaller" 6.
It will be a blessed relief to be back to a smaller phone.

Even terrorists need a holiday, Thailand is popular with people from all walks of life.
Just because someone who is on a list of terrorist suspects enters Thailand, it does not necessarily follow that the reason is terrorism.
Intelligence reports are best kept secret from the public in a country like Thailand, the general public don't know how to in interpret the data and jump to conclusions.

It used to be that every time I went to the bank they would push that scheme to my wife, she was enthusiastic but I was not.
I did the maths, properly. Its not a good deal.
If you can back out, and importantly get your money back, then thats good.
Certainly I know someone who put a lot of money into a similar scheme, verbally the girl in the bank told him that he could cancel and get his money back "anytime", when he went back 2 years later to say that his circumstances had changed and he wanted his money back it was "sorry mister, cannot" and "you no understand". The bank never denied the girl said that, but she was just mistaken. I noticed that a few days later they were telling potential customers the same "anytime mister" story.
Sadly, this is a main branch of one of the biggest banks in Thailand, in Chiang Mai City.
In Thailand it does not matter who makes the mistake, its you that has to pay for it.

Guess it would be too much to expect the police to do their job and ask the campers to move along.
Interesting that you think its a police matter!

I would like to think that someone in the illustrious government is actually looking at how some of those darn farangs actually deal with real crisis.
I see by this statement that you have only just arrived in Thailand and have yet learn anything about Thai's ;-)

Historic Wall ????
Do me a favour, its a modern wall built like that on the site of a historic wall as a tourist attraction.

Anyone who thinks the embassy is there for you, is fooling themselves. The embassy is there to promote business. That is any Western embassy.

Those who lack knowledge about what the Embassy does and the services it provides for British citizens should open the link and learn.
https://www.gov.uk/government/world/organisations/british-embassy-bangkok
You know what, thanks for the link, but no thanks... we actually knew where to find that info.
The problem is that there have been so many changes to consular and emabassy services that its just a shadow of its former self.
10 years ago I could renew my passport, get official letters and drop by for advice in the British Consulate in Chiang Mai... those days are long gone and even the embassy in Bangkok does not deal with passports, visas etc and you cannot get in without an appointment.
Meanwhile Americans Canadians and Pakistanis are all served well by local consulates....

I am not normally one to complain... but
The way us British citizens are treated by our own government in Thailand is disgraceful.
I paid my taxes for many years, in fact I still pay some to the UK and I get ZERO in return, the blighters in Embassy forget who pays their bloody wages.

I do not understand.. the headline suggests that she was scammed out of the money, but a dog lover would understand how another dog lover may have become too attached to the dog to want to hand it over to someone who will move it to another country.
I cannot see any real deception here.
IF the money was not actually spent on the dog then thats another story.
IF the woman sent money to Thailand on the strength of a photo online then its better that she loses 7000 now and learn from it, it could save her a lot more in the future.

Hackers have posted a database online
Why? Is this to show how clever they are, albeit they have to remain anonymous?
Like it or not, its a legitimate hack.
Hopefully it will put pressure on the government to keep people's personal details safer in the future.

Ali was a Muslim first and an American 2nd, or 3rd. Religion should not come before your country, rights or wrongs of the war aside, Ali was a disgrace.
What a stupid comment.

The bigger issue is that if you cannot contain your temper then perhaps Thailand is not a good choice of place to live at ANY time of year.

The Scirocco looks great, I would have thought the 1.2 million is a bit expensive, but the really important thing is to get a really good one that has been treated with respect and serviced properly.
I have always loved European cars and I currently run a Volvo turbo so I talk from some experience, though not VW experience.
All the time you are in Bangkok and use specialist dealers you will be Ok, but the value of your car will drop off like a lead balloon so my opinion is to treat this as a long term ownership, or but something Japanese instead.

In other words a foreign licence accompanied by an IDP is acceptable.. this has always been my experience.
Did anyone notice the paragraph that refers to not having an immigrant visa... I have ONLY ever seen NON-immigrant visas.

I do not know about this particular guy and his prison experience, but there have been a lot of foreigners over the years who have released books after being in Thai prisons and have made up accounts of abuse in order to help sell their books.
