  1. A man I know well was arrested for drink driving last week, guess what.. he was banned from driving for 6 months, he was also fined and given a suspended sentence.

He did spend some time in a cell.

Its up to the judge what to do in such cases, its not up to voters on a forum.

Its also worth mentioning that initially the officer that stopped him suggested a 300 baht "tip" to let him go on his way, he declined to pay the tip and by the time a more senior officer was involved it was too late.

  2. The truth is that there is injustice in every society. The USA for example decides to sentence children to life in prison without any chance of parole, many of them for non-violent offences.

The UK has a history of sentencing innocent men to life in prison, in a recent example a man called Barry George was sentenced to life for a murder he never could have committed, in a trial where there was no evidence. The appeals process saw him released after 6 years but he has repeatedly been denied any compensation.

Again and again, so called civilised societies make massive errors in their justice systems, and yes so does Thailand.

  3. Yes I was once told by immigration to just pay at the airport if i ran a few days late on a visa. Not good advise methinks.

Previously it was very good advice.. but the rules changed.

This is not about visas though, its about entry stamp which in most cases is totally different. I guess you actually meant entry stamp and not visa.

  4. I sincerely hope this guy is OK.

I think he may have wasted valuable time by going to see his parents before going to hospital, killing the snake and taking it to hospital may have been the most certain may to ensure there is no doubt what the snake was, but I just hope he did not waste valuable time in doing so.

Scary stuff indeed, though usually snakes go out of their way to avoid people and usually only attack if they feel threatened.

Remember: Humans are many times more dangerous than any snake.

  5. After 12 years of marriage you may be thinking that you have too much invested in the marriage to give it up now.

Thats the wrong way to think. You said she has never done anything like this before... I expect thats far from true, first time you have caught her out more likely.

Its possible she was planning to leave you and was salting some money away for when she does.. god help you if you have property or any assets in her name in Thailand.

  6. In answer to your question, no, the guarantor is no risk to you provided you do not default on the loan. He/she cannot take over the vehicle or put you at risk in any way.

However, if a situation arose where you stopped making payments and the guarantor had to take over the payments then you could not expect to get the blue book at the end of the term, at the least the guarantor could in theory then hold the blue book until you repaid the debt owned to the guarantor. In all likelihood though if you defaulted then the car would be repossessed and sold at auction, the guarantor would be responsible for the balance unpaid plus any administration fees.

Bottom line is simple, if you default then you can expect to loose the vehicle and your payments already made. If you can't afford the car then perhaps its better to buy one that you can afford, but thats just my opinion.

  7. Its quite easy, you and your son and the mother just go to the local ampur office and they will do it for you.

A man will ask your son to point to his father, so long as he points to you then it'll be OK !

Your son will have to sign a bunch of forms, I did the same thing and my son got really bored being asked to sign so many forms.

Then you can change the name, your son can also get an I card with the new surname on it.

i can ssure you it is not as simple as that ! Which amphur office did you go to?

I can absolutely assure you familyaffairs that its exactly as I described, I was there and and I remember it in detail.

I was in the San Sai district office in Chiang Mai.

As I was there and you was not I think you owe me an apology.
