Schools here are struggling to attract teachers also

Drive slowly people.... and watch in the mirrors for the minibus massive and watch ahead for the single-file-same-colour-helmut brigades

It's full of diving bores. But If you can ignore them then it's a lovely place.

I heard a Jazz bar was being built already in Chaweng on the road from the lake down to Q bar and temple road past the Ice bar. On the left as you drive out. Awful idea and downright stoopid idea I thought unless you enjoy burning cash
(apologies that I navigate by those equally stoopid dog-end eyesore places I mention)
Jazz mags would be a better idea

Lots of pontification going on here....
A sad event

The ISS has it's fair share of spoliled, foul-mouthed brats there.. so be warned
Panyadee is certainly not weighted with Russians and those that are there are well mannered, healthy, open-minded and happy... much like their parents. They don't have 2 heads... not the ones i've seen. It follows the British curriculum and tries to encompass global views from the homework i've looked at. My mates kids go there and its a nice mix of all nationalities with happy, well balanced kids... and parents. The teachers there i'm told are focused and motivated, plus the classes are smaller so the teachers get to focus on all the kids in equal measure to get each one ticking along as fast as possible....

Agree with Hendrix - great place if you can stay up late and don't do school runs
Theres a place outside Lucky Mother guesthouse on the beach in Chaweng that retains a local traditional feel about it. Not necessarily hippie but it does have character unlike many of the other bars in the area. It's a few plots down before the ArkBar.

Seems like fair game to me
We have em around my way once the lights go out and you just have to give em a boot.... frankly
If you did complain to a local about this they would think you were some sort of wuss and laugh at you. This is not West Kensington.

The formal application process is to do some schmoozing at a local restaurant

I play in the garden with the kids and their mates.... with the usual rules applied:
over the wall = 6 and out
can't be out first ball
dad (while batting) has to supply dolly catches
the youngest has to bat first and sulks when not batting or bowling
no-one wants to be back stop - but there MUST be one
20+ runs can be amassed after a hook into into the foliage

Never mind all that talk of glitz... how many shekels?
-
Whatever you choose.... drive slow

I like the jet ski boys… I like the fact they don’t get all subservient with the cretins. Those ones that come with that ever present western sense of superiority.

Looking at their website it looks like the kind of place to stay well clear of if you want top authentic thai style crab and seafood dishes

I witnessed a young tourist who had too much to drink leave an iphone behind late at night at a thai run chaweng beach bar .... they kept it safe for 4 days till he staggered through again one night and they gave it him back.

Yep, OP bungalows on Chaweng beach. But can confirm that being a ladyboy is not mandatory.

I take my 3 yr old throwing stones in the sea if i want to keep him amused. He loves it.... either near the big buddha area or theres a quiet beach out of choeng mon towards chaweng i take the kids. Also he loves Wat Plai Leam to feed the fish and also the big buddha he likes to bash the bells at the top. Crazy golf too theres one behind the islander he likes. Also it riles me to go but he likes the kids place in Tesco Lotus with machines and amusements. Failing all that theres the beach somewhere shallow and thats easy to find.
Edit: I just seen the OP again and may be too late with this reply

Don't remember the details, but I had a real shock in the Q bar when i got the bill

Be good to get out, tho wouldn't fancy a fall now
My missus says when she was a teenager (25 yrs or so ago) they all used to go scrambling up on tracks by where the crocodile farm is now.

motocross track near the airport
Whereabouts near the airport ?
Used to be into trials myself, i prefered it slow. Even snails pace might be ambitious these days.

The lack of inhibitive rules and laws and health & safety. My kids smiling. My wife not complaining. Coconut trees. Motorbikes. Climate. Singha. Football on weekend evenings. Fresh fish. Fresh fruit. Wat Plailam (sp). The Indian restaurant in Choeng Mon (best on the Island) . The English Indian curry they do in the Islander in Chaweng including Samosas. That local thai restaurant on the old airport road where they do the best panang gai. Tongs bar. The Mango. Gecko's. Local people. Sunrises. Sunsets. Funny falangs. People watching. Beaches.

Its cos its happy new year and the rozzers need money for the wives to go play cards. Mrs Higgins niece got a 300bt pull the other day by the market . The needle returns to the start of the song and we all sing along like before. I hope.

In answer to the OP. Plurks that come here and want to make it just like it is where they came from. Cos its for the better.
And that ever present good-old-not-so-healthy sense of superiority that they have over the locals and local ways.

I sense something, a presence I've not felt since...
