  1. With 99 planes in the fleet 9 of them more than 20 years old (http://www.planespotters.net/Airline/Thai-Airways-International) and more than 80 vice directors (vice presidents?) I'm not surprised alt all. Get someone who actually can do the job instead of appointing retired generals to run the circus.

Funny they don't show the infamous A340's as being stored, wonder if they actually sold the long haul versions or started using them again.

  2. I thought air bridges would be normal for Air Asia at Don Muang but most of the flights I have taken from there leave from the lower level where you take buses to the planes. Also 50% of the time (for me) there is no air bridge on return either. Just last week I returned from Bali on a full plane which parked in an area next to terminal where the air bridge had been removed and it was a long bus ride to Immigration. Hopefully when Terminal 2 opens this will improve.

  3. Many police are still stationed along Silom Rd. to keep sidewalks clear during the day. What a waste of manpower although I wonder where they would be otherwise. It would be much more economical to have 2 pickup trucks patrolling the designated area. Should they find anyone breaking the rules they could confiscate the metal parts of their booth which I have seen them do before here a few years ago.

  4. When I asked for Internet banking at Bangkok Bank a few years ago I was told I could not qualify because I had no work permit. I completed the application anyway and put a note at the bottom that I would withdraw all my money and go to a different bank if they did not grant my request. A few days later I received a temporary password in the mail and I had Internet bamking.

  5. Daytime food vendors will be missed by many people which might cause a policy adjustment....as for the night vendors...several years ago the vendors along side the buildings were allowed to set up earlier than those on the other side of the sidewalk who had to wait until after rush hour...this worked out well for everyone including pedestrians......I cannot see all vendors setting up at the same time (7 pm) each night. As soon as police stop patrolling the vendors will do as they please anyway which is unfortunate,

  6. Seems that quite a few people retire here when they have children working to support them....this might be one of the causes of early retirement. It also seems that 50 here is like 60 in the West. You never see older people in many jobs here where it is common to see older people working in USA . For example I see peope in their 70's working as cashiers in super markets at home. There needs to be some kind of an adjustment here on how employers and the general public view older workers.

  7. Yesterday I finally figured out how to take the A1 bus TO DMK (having taken it FROM there many times). There is no signage inside the MRT station at Chatuchak Park, so you need to know that you take exit 2. The A1 bus stop is right outside. I don't know which exit number you need from the BTS Mo Chit station. A previous thread dealt with the A1 bus service to and from Mochit bus station. I tried to understand the small notice on the bus itself (mostly in Thai). I think it says that whilst there is a service from DMK to Mochit bus station, there is no service in the other direction. If that is correct then one would need to travel to the MRT/BTS in order to take the bus to DMK. It also seems that there is a service now to Lad Phrao.

Incidentally the A1 bus really motors. On the tollway, we came up behind the DMK-BKK shuttle and left it for standing. The female driver was on a mission.

I took the bus Monday afternoon and was standing near driver who had the old bus doing 95 at one point....the highway makes the ride very quick. After seeing a long taxi line this was really a better alternative .

  8. Bangkok the medical hub clap2.gif

    Don't forget the Ebola vaccine...

I just spoke to a doctor anesthesiologist in Bangkok and he said use of a nurse anesthesiologist would depend on the procedure and anesthesia used...if minor procedure with light anesthetic then nurse anesthesiologist could work under supervision of the doctor but I think doctor would have to be a licensed surgeon and not a GP for this to apply.

  9. But why pay rent at a market when they can illegally obstruct footpaths for nothing? wai2.gif wai.gif

    Selfish.

I can assure you they are paying someone for that spot on the street. All I have gotten from my Thai friends is they pay the "street police". I assume that translates to BMA.

I have lived in Silom for 10 years....the only time I see Police on the sidewalks is when they are their with their "book" to collect money from vendors. Glad to see this finally happening although Patpong 1 should be an exception as long as they don't have carts in the street. Currently night vendors along Silom Rd. set up before rush hour and have their carts blocking one lane of traffic. This needs to be enforced though so Silom will need to see some Police patrolling sidewalks for a change.

  10. I was a patient in this clinic last month and received general anesthesia. The anesthesiologist was a young woman who didn't say much and I suspect she might be a "Nurse Anesthesiologist" who is not a doctor but I can't be sure about this. This is legal I believe.

If this clinic re-opens in 60 days I think they will need to hire a licensed surgeon as Dr. Sompob is a solo practitioner from my observations and many of the procedures done there are surgical. The doctor had many certificates/diplomas hanging on the walls and glass cases in his clinic and his website (which has disappeared) indicated he was board certified in the USA which convinced me to use his services.

I actually liked the doctor and his nurses even though I had some complications which never should have occurred. This week I will visit a major Bangkok hospital to be checked out.

One fallout from this incident will be that patients will be reluctant to undergo general anesthesia outside of a hospital....I know that I for one will never take this risk again.

  11. Even if you find a moneyboy who you think really likes you, are you going to have enough in common to build a lasting relationship ? If they are not educated I think you are going to have a problem.

One issue you need to deal with up front is family support...if he is sending money from his salary, fine but he should not expect you to take care of his family even though you may pay for much of his expenses.

The money boys with foreign boyfriends can act very single when they are back here alone. I seriously dated a great guy, ( no moneyboy, but no job either ) made him get a job and provided some start up money before going to USA for visit. One month later he was living with another guy.

Find someone who can love you and not your bank account....don't be in a big hurry to bring him to USA,..see how things play out here first
