  1. Hi all,

I'm going with my parents (and gf) to pattaya for 3 days. Could you please tell me what we could do there. My parents are in their mid 60's. My mom told me there was an aquarium to check out. I also plan on taking them to kho larn. Anything else to do during the day time? Any recomendations for dining (thai, indian food..)? Also, where would be a good place to go to listen to some live jazz?

    Thanks in advance :o

  2. alright, got it. Apparently the bus comes in at (well, around) 16.40 near the bus station and arrives in Mukdahan about 5 hours later. There are 2 other buses coming in in the middle of the night (02.50 and 3.30 am).

  3. Hi,

I need to write down my previous work permit number on my new work permit application. Is there a way for me to get this number without having to call my previous employer or immigration office? For instance, would this number be writen anywhere on my passport (next to my extension of stay/visa)?

    Thanks :o

  4. Hi,

i've been told that there's a bus connecting pattaya to mukdahan that makes a stop in surin. Does anyone know around what time it makes it to surin, where i can book tickets and where exactly does it stops in surin.

    Than :o ks

  5. I made a post few days ago looking for some info about this but my title was not clear..so i decided to make a new post. Sorry about that.

So about 1 year ago, i was able to obtain a non imm B from the immigration office in bkk (i brought with me all relevant documents: transcripts, letter from my school..).

I just started a new job and have been told that now one can only get a non-imm B at a Thai consulate outside Thailand. Is that corect?

    Thanks :o

Depends if your employer meet the criteria such as number of Thai employees per work permit, etc. If they do and you have a 30 day tourist visa exemption stamp with at least 21 days remaining on this stamp , you can change it to a 90 day non "B" inside Thailand and then later extend this to a one year extension of stay based on business permit.

    www.sunbeltasiagroup.com

Exactly, that's what i was told last time (that i needed at least 21 days left) and all i did was go to the immigration department and they gave me a non imm B. I'm teaching at a similar school right now so i don't think the 'number of thai employees per work permit' is all that different.

Nevertheless, i am currently on a TV and not a visa exemption..would that make a difference?

I'm guessing that very few people know about this because it seems that everyone assume one has to leave Thailand to obtain a non-imm b.

  7. ..sorry about the confusion, i asked my school again and i guess the meant Non imm B and not 'O'.

    So basically, my question is:

Is it now mandatory to go outside Thailand to abtain a non imm B visa? About 1 year ago, i obtained my non imm B IN Thailand. I did not have to go to Lao to get it. I just needed to have at least 3 weeks left on any type of visa (or visa exemption). I believe that at that time this was a new law/regulation and that just months before, one had to go out of the contry to obtain a non imm B. Does anyone know what is the situation/law now?

    Thanks ; )

  8. Hi,

I have been told by my school's administration that i need to go to Lao to get an 'O' visa before i can apply for work permit and non imm B visa. I am currently on a tourist (2 month + 1) visa. Last time i applied for my work permit and non imm B visa (about 1 year ago) , all i needed is to have at least 3 weeks left on any visa (or even on a visa exemption) to apply for it. Can anyone shed some light on this please? I just went to Lao to get a TV about 1 month ago and i'm not that excited about having to go back..

    Thanks :o

  9. Thanks for your replies.

Yes, i kind of figured out that anywhere near the beach would be out of my budget.

How seasonal is the tourists influx? From what i understand, Krabi is subjected to (very) heavy rain half of the year.

Thanks Rilly. i will get i touch with you when/if i'm ready to make the 'big move'.

  10. Thanks Nick for your input.

The more i look into it, the more it seems that it might be a lot easier and cheaper to put the business in my thai partner's name and give up any ownership/shares. Of course this would mean that i cant work in the shop and get a proper visa. Nevertheless, i would be able to 'be around' in the shop i suppose and do 'back office' work...any thoughts on that possibility?

    Thanks

  11. Hadn't check the thread in a while (thought it 'died out'). Thanks a lot for your replies.

Torrenova, the thing is that I want to work in the business, thats why from what i understand i need a 2 million bahts captal. The 'and more' part of the 'Juice bar and more' is what will make it special/set it apart from similar places. I'd rather not get into the details now.

And yes, i know that (having a good) location is a key factor.

Chang paarp, i have read through the archives (50 pages back) and i can't say that they answered all of my questions. I will look into the other links you mentioned and will get back with specific questions. Let me try to (briefly) answer your questions. Thanks for asking them.

Do you have any business experience?

    Nope

Are you familiar with the industry you are looking to enter?

I have some (quiet a lot) of knowledge in health/nutrition (being a vegan/vegetarian/raw foodist for 12 years) and a lot of knowledge in the 'and more' part of my project (sorry if i'm not being very clear).....but not sure if that qualify as knowledge in 'the industry'. I want to open this business out of passion for the service/goods i would be providing.

    Why Thailand?

Because i have been living here for over 2 years and plan to stay here long term.

(Are you an American? If so look at the information on the Amnity treaty.

I have dual citizenship but i'm currently on my american passport. Will look at the Amnity treaty.

Do you have some Thai partners?

My GF. We've been together for 2 years. I intend to marry here in the future.

Are you aware the Foreign Business Act is under review and you might have some grief when they pass the new legislation?

I just read about it. Dont really know what to make out of it, meaning to what extent it will actually be inforced.

Do you have a business plan?

Will definately have one ready before i invest any money.

Are you familiar with the vagaries of doing business in Thailand?

    No

Have you spent some time in Thailand? Not just holidays

    Ya

Cclub 75, thanks for the links. Again, i'm interested in working in the business so i would have to be the owner in order to do that i believe.

  12. Thanks Cobrasnake. Yes indeed, you are aware of my project. My idea in the longer run would be to grow my own (organic) fruits and veggies. I understand your concerns about the isolation (even though my girlfriend would be joining me) and you've got a point there. Ideally i would like to find a house/area accesible by tuk tuk or sangteaw (so that i dont necesarilly have to drive a motorbike to get to town) but with cleaner air than downtown. That would probably put me in a 5-10km radius which as u say shouldn't make a great difference in air quality...i'm gonna have to do some extensive research while i'm there to find the best option/solution for me (us).

I have to look into the store you mentioned. I know of one supermarket that sold some 'organic' products across the bridge. Not sure if we are talking about the same place. Anyways , this is a different topic and i hope to find some kind of 'farmers'market' that sells pesticide free products. Of course, no 'organic label' there.

Thanks for your link for monitoring the air pollution. i had already picked it up from the 'pollution archives' on this site.

  13. Thanks for your feedback again.

I'm actually pretty health conscious (non smoker, alcohol occasionaly, very little fried food , vegetarian etc) so i won't have too many factors outside of the pollution that should add up to my body's 'toxicity'. But being health conscious and moving to a polluted city is a 'hard decision' to take. It's just that i havn't found in Thailand an area that suits me more than CM.

Is there a specific directions/area (maybe where the air is better) u guys suggest that i look for a house? I believe south of CM is less polluted..is that correct?

  14. Thanks a lot for your input..'gives me some hope .

Read of quiet a few people leaving CM because of the pollution and others having relocated to CM and regretting it because of it (the pollution). I'm trying to get an accurate picture/idea of the situation there in order to avoid making a wrong move. I've also read that CM has the second highest rate of lung cancer in the world!! Is that true? Who is suffering from those symptoms? Are tuk tuk drivers and such the only one afflicted or just about anybody? I guess that would implie that the major pollution problem is more than just a few weeks/year.

Would anybody currently living in CM advise me NOT to move there?
