  1. nautical inn or natural beach ??? in the thick of things, but quiet, both w/ pools and offer discount off season.

i think everywhere now is quiet not next to bldg site.

    NOT soi honey!

ma maison looks very nice but id be bent cause its all frenchied out. i imagine some arse frenchman giving me a hard time for not parle vou'ing france' :-) love the pool. how typical in cambodia no?

i think pattaya bay location is not good at all.

hey i never stayed there but always liked areca lodge on soi diana?

  2. there are lots of places to buy alcohol on the way out but when you come in there is just som,e little places with 1/8 the selection. i did not see wine as i recall. i think youll have to go upstairs for it.

also - buy one bottle, there was a warning about +1L. ive never been checked but if you are youll be fined big sure.

  3. you said you wish to live in pattaya. there are not many good schools here to learn thai that i am aware of.

is this your first time to thailand? why dont you just come here, travel, see if you like it and then apply to school.

i have years ago actually given up on teaching myself thai. at 46 im pretty unwanted and for me there is little reason anymore to learn this language when you can get the boot any time. you are half my age.

you can pick up enough thai just by applying yourself.

your school is in bkk. bkk is a big, polluted city. be sure you really want to live there!

  4. im never sick here, i dont ask for food to be reheated and daily eat in markets and marginal stalls/carts. drink the water from the buckets...

most illness comes from water imo and meat particular seafood w/ time-temp abuse.

we have a saying in india - its the tourist restaurants that will lay you low.

stop the whinging, thai food is so great and the handling is just fine for the most part.

buffets are great ways for restaurants to dump dangerous food. i never eat from buffets in states AND,... they are no less costly than a proper meal.

  5. i agree w/ 3lgcwboy but this must be a new service???? only one i know as posted is mukdahan yellow bus. its a great bus but you want to get a seat ahead (in high season) but more importantly - when i used to diy my visa run to poipet seemd like the bus time changed every time i went SO CHECK.

i thin that petronas bus goes to issan proper, i think thats is actually what you want, but check it out.

  6. tropo is not correct. the visa is us20 (says it on the sign at ever xing). when i used to diy i never, ever paid b1000. that is the farang sucker price. ill let you guys do the math and as the dollar falls, you/she are getting even more ripped off.

yellow bus about 125 ea way incidently. i used to do this (9 hours) but the yellow bus became really full and returns late at night. this would cost me b1250 all in. i have not done thi srun in a long time.

i did the run thru rayong-chantaburi-pailin but that wa smore hassle and only saved one hour. now i just use a b1700 service -but back to doing it proper way (penang) as i used to do yrs ago -but at least i culd get a multi.

this single thing in penang make thai visas VERY expensive.

ps: no attempt at humour there or here. just the fact's maa'm

  7. the reason i no longer apply in us is the expense. embassy doles out only singles and you have to pay for a tracking mailer so the whole disaster costs you about us60. it used to work great and cheap for triples.

the biggest issue you will have to face is arriving at the airport sans visa. if youll be here 6 months id strongly recmmend you arrive with a ticket out. they DO ask and it IS posted now.

ive have read houston best alternative for multi tourist and hear boston possible.

if youre pp is clean of thai stamps, the authorities will be much mor elenient UNLESS all your living/travel end up w/ thai stamps. then youre just another punter after the 5 month.

if you dont mind paying the money, get your single and have a ticket out. from there make a visa run to penang (its worth a look i guess) and that will give you three more months. if you no intention of returning a long time - you can make a visa run to cambodia cheaply but in this day and age - id go to penang.

los angeles is only good for singles, even if you front up in a monkey suit. w.d.c is very prompt at returning your pp.

if thai embassies were smart they would go back to issuing triples from your home country. many good people simply do not want th ecircus of the long stay visa.

bank: that will be up to the bank. try bangkok bank

1 year: dont start off on a bad foot here, get a TR in us

school: no school will help you w/ a visa.

  8. why dont you just take the bus? i bet its less than b300.

from the airport you can take an airport transfer bus into th ecity presuming they still exist from dm. when you get to silom, take a moto for b30 to the embassy.

ow pai santhantooht american krap - thanon wireless. tao lai khun krap?

  9. i agree sui -

somehow you are not a player unless you are spending boatloads of baht is beyond silly. this is the thaivisa attitude most members have here, and if you are not on board you dont belong here - even though many of us were here before thailand was even a thought in those guys empty heads. b900 - i laugh.

not only this but when a lady leaves you will she ask for a b500 tip or taxi money?

i have been in my spartan little b5000 place for some years, central pattaya, walk anywhere. in fact, im thinking moving to my friends place b2500 and once month free pay one year advance.

when i go out into the countryside - you can get a great room b200.

ps: the gh on soi bukhao is not lucky court its little court, lucky is near the mkt.

what do you need? a clean room and a fan.

  10. dude - you can try amazing thailand but be prepared for the dogs <deleted>.

pattaya is best place for farang clothes but i buy by (36in) clothes in usa and shirts in export shop. quality is crap here.

Has anyone come across any decent tank-tops? I need a large size and I like loose fit...I haven't come across any yet, either in Pattaya or Bangkok. I find that even the 3XL Thai size is too small.

  11. i was in the middle of a university scandal in los angeles once and interviewe by a number of papers and the times. all the students expected me to stand up and be the saviour when they didnt listen to me the semester before.

made money as sub contractor for a few people then working for rough guide and lonely planet.

i met a famous tv behind the scenes guy in a bkk bar. he will remain nameless. he told me a story about a whore stealing his rolex and he having to tell his wife and claim it on his insurance. pretty funny. he was really surprised we had not heard of him - i just no tv addict, but he was a major dude in 60s sitcom production. met johnny carson, glenn campbell and spent a week at a dude ranch when i was a kid with ___ kennedy's family. i forget his first name.

my father met a bunch of stars in the 70s when we lived in l.a. he used to go golfing at a number of posh clubs and many stars would like to come to his club becasue the course was so nice - i was always the rebel and disdained country clubs.

i have a family member who is a really powerful lawyer and she has dozens of super important clients (real movers and shakers) and can practice before the us supreme court.

also have some other family members who locally are huge players in __________ city. mentioning their names opens doors sure.

me - im broke, but happy and freeee :-)

  12. all the bar girls want to have a mixed kid. im certian some of the reason is th echild support but the euro-thai kids are often quite cute.

for whatever reason i do not think usa-asian mix looks so good. the caucasian features are too pronounced. some of the little girls are adorable and yesterday i saw a little boy with his mom - he was a very handsome lad and sure lady killer when he gets a bit older.

everyone, everywhere worship white skin - get over it. for myself, i am not at all attracted to dark skinned women by and large. sometime its sexy, usually it just screams - peasant. which is precisely why all the whitener, etc... is sold in abundance these days. also... dont be so hard on the thai chicks - pinay's have been scrubbing themselves white for decades.

people in the west bronze themselves for the exact reasons asians do not - it 'shows' affluence (time not toiling under a roof).

  13. hey tropo - that seat could be taken up by someone paying full freight.

why dont you send her off on the yellow bus to poipet? its only about b250 i suppose by now. or she can dyi to pailin via chantaburi for peanuts as well.

i wont say how my visa company deals 'with it all' you can see it when you see it.

7 days = 3500B, more than double not to mention showing up overstay for a week +, pretty darn flagrant.

cambodia inter...hmmm, wonder if its the same place im using. the free lunch is good as long as its thai. not some pathetic whitebread disaster. bfd - good thai food - b25.

  14. It's low season and usually I'm beating women off with a stick, my phone ringing at all day and night. This ain't happening, fewer girls, sour looks in the street and bar girls unwilling to give up their phone numbers in the clubs.

Does anyone know of popular chat sites or whatever that the women in Pattaya are using these days? Any spots frequented by girls on the make that I seem to have overlooked in town?

I personally would never take a woman off Beach road for a variety of reasons. Hence the question. Thx.

  15. When you book a run few compaies have their own vans. This is esp true now w/ low season and visa issues.

here's one that alwyas has worked well for me. On Soi Bukhao near BriEnjoy Hotel/Travel (north), same side (near soi 15???). B1700 everyday.

runs are taking longer as the vans go father afield for punters as they are fewer.

  16. Just get a tourist visa from the country you are working. I am sure they will gleefully dole this out for you. No need to complicate your life with the above.

Rumour has it marriage visas are more trouble thna they are worth these days.

You could also fly into KL and get a visa there (or Penang) and take a bus to Penang and the train north.
