  1. if you like discos theres one at Mercure Hotel (old novotel) , 1/2 block up LP rd from there is Future disco, and Marina disco with bowling alley is further up the street, Meena disco is on the same road as Khop Chai Dou bar about 2 km downstream on the left and Romeo disco is another 1 km on the right, Sornedith Club is a disco with more Gays and ladyboys, look on a hobo map for Sornedith Hotel, but all these places require some sort of transportation as they are not walking distance from downtown, maybe Novotel and Future are, the other bars I mentioned are all in the same area and easily walkable

  2. lots of hotels and GH's around the Orchid GH area, as for entertainment and are on foot, typical pub crawl is 3 bars in the area Khop Chai Dou bar next to the fountain is more of a restaurant but has Lao girls there playing pool and listening to the live but sedate music there, Samlo bar is on the same street as KCD upsteam (north) about 4 blocks, same side of the street across from Mixay temple, if you walk you'll get hit up by the couple of the streetwalkers there, pass on that, Samlo is a pub bar with soccer etc on TV and a pool table, girls hang here as well, then walk towards the Mekong from Samlo turn right at the riverfront (Fa Ngum rd) next door to Intercity hotel is Bor Pen Nyang bar, this this the most popular bar in town, and is more crowded the later you go, gotta walk up 4 flights of stairs to the rooftop, but lots of falangs and Lao girls there, the thing you must remember is some hotels will not allow you to bring a Lao girl to your room (Lang Xang hotel) Orchid guesthouse is OK but can't comment on which other ones do or don't, theres other bars as well along Fa Ngum rd, Galaxy has live music, Tex mex, Red Mekong, cluster of bars behind the Mercure Hotel (old Novotel) are popular too

  3. I flew Lao Central VTE BKK in march and it was 695,000 kip bought at their booth at VTE airport, direct to Swampy, added it up and don't think you can get to Swampy and cheaper by air, plus you save about 4 hrs of travel time, I looked for a Lao Central booth at BKK and couldn't find one, but someone told me you can buy at the check in counter there

  4. hey Factor, theres tons on luang prabang rd past the airport and Kaoleio village rd towards the northern bus station, but if you ask me they are all overpriced and under maintained, every used Korean truck or Starex van I looked at had bald tires and black oil, and a average price of $11000, my GFs brother bought one and it was DOA in 2 yrs, I'm moving to VTE for good in september and have decided to buy a Wuling Chinese 4dr pickup brand new for $8500, GM china product, gotta last longer than any used vehicle for the same price, or check the adds posted at the 2 minimarts downtown for a car a falang has and needs to sell, good luck on the house and I PM you about it the other day, Callao

  5. Nok Air cancelled my flight from Udon to Bangkok, with insurance, while I'm in Laos, tried to email them, full mailbox, twice, 3 phone calls, stuck on hold till I hungup, finally got an email to them ,no response and I ended up flying direct to BKK on Lao central so when I get to BKK, no Nok Air booth at BKK, so they just burned me for the ticket, no nothing, and I;m back in the states so yeah why bother when you can't even get a response from them

  6. check out Centrepoint Silom right behind the Shangrila, walk to the boatdock for a river cruise, nice big rooms with kitchen and for less than $300 you could get one of thier better rooms, pool and good breakfast, robinsons and supermarket, fastfood 7 11 downstairs walk to skytrain silom route

  7. Ive had it wih the getting down to Udon Thani to get to Bangkok, Lao Central flys straight to BKK for $80, add up the time and money involved specially if you're headed to or from BKK, it usually cost me about 800 baht to get from Laos to Udon and 500 baht from DM to BKK, Laos immigration is really easy too at the airport, VTE BKK 800am BKK VTE 1000am, no online booking thou you can buy at VTE airport, its never full and they serve food,

  8. in Vientiane it should be no problem finding good fill dirt and buiilding the pad is done as you are bringing fill in so you want to buili it up 1 meter a foot at a time compacting iit by wheel rolling it with the tractor and it will tighten up good you want to have 2 ft minimum under your bottom of footing elevation and you can use a standard spread footing slab foundation VTE is much dryer than southern thailand so not as much of an issue, I start my foundation next month
