the idea about letting the fill settle over a rainy season is that the soil is clay and letting it sit thru a rainy season allows the clay to fully expand with moisture over that time, I have a lot in VTE that I did last year that is ready to build now, so as long as you have a dry window to do your foundation after that you should be fine

as far as quickest LAX/ SFO BKK CHINA AIRLINES 2 hr in taipei both directions 19.5 hours 17.5 back to the states

I just checked for feb 7 and thai airways 2300 baht, thaismile website doesn't even say they fly to Udon ?Thani at all
-
Lao Central airline flys VTE direct to Swampy daily for a reasonable $695000 kip ($87) I flew back to BKK and it was pretty good service, I usually don't like trying to get to Udon from the friendship bridge, get dinged fo 800- 1000 baht cab ride, VTE- BKK 700am BKK-VTE around 900am

I think its the airline that makes you have 6 months left before travel
-
I just went thru the same thing and was told that Laos requires you to have 6 months left on your passport to ENTER the country but Thailand did not so I don't think you'll have a problem leaving Laos or entering Thailand, but might have a problem if you fly international as the Airlines can be sticky on that.

if you try to catch a minibus from friendship bridge I always have gotten dinged for 800-1000 baht if you can't find someone to share the fair, and last time I was the only falang going to the airport so I paid but driver took 2 of his thai buddies and dropped them off in Udon before taking me to the airport and almost missed my flight and guess what.... neither paid nothing

Another option, I am going too fly thai airways Swampy to Udon 2200 baht, Nok air the same day 1800 plus extra baggage 350 baht taxi to Don Muang 80 baht in tolls so same price and I bet asia air is close to 1600 baht if you have excess baggage, no hassle of getting to DM, i wonder if Thai Smile will cover this route for a cheaper fare from Swampy

yes me too hoping I can buy a ticket to bangkok while iam in vientianecouple different options for the OP, Me I fly to Udon minibus it to VTE, might try to fly back on Lao Central from VTE, $100
The last time I tried Lao Central's website it didn't work. I will be using this option in the future when AirAsia move to DM
I've used Lao Airlines on a few cccasions on this route with no problems.

Its not cheaper to fly 1800 average price of airline ticket 200 baht airport shuttle so 2 people 4000 baht, 1st class compartment for 2 people 2500 baht 50 baht tuktuk to the border, saves 1500 baht plus if your on a budget 1 hotel night saved and now to get a cheap airline ticket 350 baht taxi from swampi to DM, never seen a cockroach
-
the train is a good way to go I like the 1st class cabins don't go into Laos On the train get off at Nong Khai there will be tuk tuks waiting to take you to the border 50 baht you need 20 baht pp for the bus across the border get your visa on arrival there 200-300 baht for a taxi or walk 100 yards from immigration and take the bus from there, I think you need a visa ahead of time to take the bus from NK to VTE, or fly to Udon Thani take the airport shuttle to the border for 200 baht pp

I am starting a house in Vientiane Laos got 1 meter high building pad from last year and am going to starting building soon, lots of good information here, I have always wondered where you run the electrical runs in a post and grade beam brick house 2 story with a concrete slab 2nd floor I have a good simple plan, I will remember to vent the roof attic space and insulate everywhere and am going to put in as much covered patio and veranda areas as I can, Ive built a few houses in california so will supervise as much as possible and do the bathroom plumbing and sinks western style myself with vented SS and the electric runs and equipment, thanx for the info

I am a USA resident and citizen, and want to get it in Laos cuz you get double pages for the same price and 10 days return, here in the USA its mail it off, 6 weeks, or pay $60 more for expidited service, so if I have 6 months left exactly (Oct 1) or a couple days more not less and an appointment to get the passport in VTE I should be OK? or I gotta do it now, thanx for the help
-
I am coming over oct 3 and my passport will be 2 days less than 6 months left till expiration. I am planning to go to Vientiane Laos and get it renewed there while I am in town Think this will be an issue at immigration? or with the airline? thanx
House Construction During Rainy Season?

I thought you had the pad done already and were ready to start in june if you want to build the building pad during the rainy season you might have some problems, my land was rice fields before and had to wait till february cuz the land was still holding water till then and you couldn't get a truck or tractor on it, and you dont want to just dump and fill 1 meter at once better to fill in like 1 foot lifts and wheelroll the lift with the tractor and do it 2 more times, if the existing ground and stable ( not wet and pumpy) and can find fill dirt that is not too wet you should be fine, if you're going to do this PM me I have a Lao friend that has dump trucks and tractor for a fair price 20 m by 30 m up 1 meter compacted trucked in 9 million kip 1200 US I start my place next month after sitting thru this past rainy season
