that is nice,
there is something similiar to this on thai-language dot com
-
Not sure if this is used in the states but it means you're kinda let down and/or pissed of about something:
"I bet 1000 pounds on Manchester United.... and they lost 5-0, I am gutted"
-
and newzbin is now shutdown beautiful usenet, please don't go away.
-
Just a little bump.
The set has been updated again. Been a bit lazy in the last few months but back at it again now, around 150 new cards etc added.
Miscellaneous Words, Phrases and some Grammar Rules etc. Difficulty level ranges from basic words/phrases to more advanced words/phrases.*You will need to understand Thai script, some romanisation is used on trickier words.
Updated: 15/05/2010:
• More words and Phrases - 150+ new Flash Cards
*A couple people emailed me saying that the phrases were not always polite and "I need to add pom/ผม and krab/ครับ" and that I shouldn't teach/learn slang. This is colloquial Thai the way Thai's use their language daily; put simply, if you want to learn to speak like a Thai Newsreader look elsewhere.

the thai spelling of english wods always throws me. I look at the words and instantly thing <deleted> does that mean, that's no ordinary structure then I say it with stress on the syllables.
-
Only thing I can think of is the thai lazy speak coming in, although i've never heard it pronounced 'he-soh' or spelt that way.
Lazy speak as in "ได้ยินไหม ---> changes for speaking easily into---> ดิยินไหม"
-
what I love about these loanwords is that lots of thai's don't relise they are english words to start with.
leo-leo
why didn't you say U-Turn?
I didn't think you'd understand that word.
-
irishpolyglot - I couldn't make out a lot but sounded good far better than me after a few months, sure it wouldn't take you long to be really good. You'll probbaly find a lot of people that speak thai protect it and think of themselves as something special and aloof from other non speakers which they just typecast as sex tourists.
One thing though... do not wai service staff like at the bts, even ironically it's not good
and I think she ripped you off on the watermelon it's usually 10 baht
Cheers

I've always just heard กล้วยๆ to mean "easy" i just added the peasy as it's pretty much in the same context.
-
โคตร spelling, sorry,
why i outta
-
"Cool!"; "Swell!"; "Kick ass!" - เจ๋ง or แจ๋ว
กล้วยๆ - easy peasy
I suppose it's not strictly slang but โครต is a word that is said a lot by teenagers and one that I have to remember not to use all the time, heh.
-
There's a video on youtube that helps with distinguishing tones. It's a really good starting point since the same word in different tones mean completely different things.
Hope this helps!
No, it doesn't.
In Thai, there is no such thing as "the same word in different tones." They are different words.
You must know exactly what she was trying to say as anyone who has studied thai for a while would have.
-
mangkorn - do you hang around bars and pounce on farangs that pronounce สวย ซวย?
chillax.

What happens if someone is a Doctor, but from a poor family and has themeselves little wealth
-
I always wondered how one determines this:
I wonder whether the receiver subconsciously thinks "hmm, he is adding Pee in front of my name he must think i'm old/he must think i'm X years older than him"
-
haha, i was racking my brains for a minute before i read you made the joke up, i was trying to think what possible link there was in thai culture between coconuts and kids :/
-
makescents - please do

Cool. What is B2S a store in thailand or an online store? I love videos, I have used the alg ones on youtube for the last month and feel i've learnt loads.
กล้วยๆ love using that word, kiddy talk
-
ให้อร่อยนะ - hi aroi na. Add the polite stuff before and after if you like but generally between friends just that is ok, it's what the folk in my apartment would say to one another.
-
gaccha - that is good advice. I used to constantly complain thais talk to fast etc and then started repeatedly listening to things to make them go in.
-
i just use online ones.

I use VOCATUDE 2.0 (free)
I downloaded 2 lists of thai vocabulary with sound ("Thai for beginners" and "thai for advandced learners")
http://oriente-voca.eu/wordlists.php?lang=eng
I only see northern thai when I click 'thai' on that page, where do you get those 2 lists?

Usually it means "dirty minded" (sexually) or kinky. In most cases, it also means "yeah? maybe have some fun!" (as in dumfounded).
You're right! or its mean "naughty" can use this word talung when someone tease u (not in dirty way but disrespectful) like my student slap my head as a teacher i say this "dont be talung"
If a student is slapping your head you need to sort them out, pronto.
I don't think that context is correct firstly and secondly HAHA if a thai student is slapping your head I think you need to move schools quick, i would wai before asking and then touching even a good thai friends head.

In the usual context it's used i've just taken เสเปกอยู่อะไร (spec yoo arai) as a teenage/colloquial way of saying คุณชอบผู้หญิงแบบไหน - koon chawp poo ying baeb nai. 'Those' kind of girls do use it a lot, you can motion to a 60 year old fat falang and just say 'sabek' to get a laugh.
