  1. Where about do you live I'm looking for some place away from town too.

Nice input. Anyone with half a brain can see that this town has a future :):D for the reasons stated. CM is a place held dear to the hearts of the Thai people as a vacation destination. Twice as many Thais come to CM. It can only grow from here. The expat community is also growing yearly. Its just a nice place all around. Meet the Immigration qualifications and you found a nice place to live.

Not my business... but what happened with the other half of your brain ??

(just joking, I'm happy you like place where you live)

  2. No need for an interior designer if you already know what you want.

The best way to "turn our ideas into reality" is to use Google Sketchup. It is the tool for just that (sketching ideas) and its free.

I've used them my self for modeling my house and print them out for the builder just like that.

By the way congratulation on having good builders they are a rare breed in Thailand.

  3. I think some landlord will ask for an unusual amount of deposits as a way to say no.

My experience is that two months security deposit is the standard. Many are asking for three which sets off alarms for me.
  4. Thanks for the great info.

Hi Guys, There are two good guitar shops in Chiang Mai, they are both in Chang Klan Road near the 7/11 at the road to Chaing Mai Land swiming pool.

one is the shop that was located near the old moat you spoke about and said the owner was a bit abrupt. He is really Ok, I have been in and out of his shop for over four years and have spent very little with him and he has been very good, I would say..

His shop is the Fender and Gibson agency for Northern Thailand and has quite a large stock of quality guitars.elecric and accoustic.. ask to look upstairs.

The other shop is about 200 meters further away from that shop on the same side of the road in Chang Klan Rd nearer to the Park Hotel, its called Maximum Sound ( they have a website, but its in Thai www. mxmsound . com ) the owner is a good guy, young Thai and into music, he plays a 1990's Gibson Studio himself, they have the lesser of the better guitars and cater for students and younger players.. He will get in anything that available, and his prices are discounted. He also has a recording studio for hire complete with everything you need for a high class recording.. and some good session musicians available to back you up if required.

another is Pol Music guitar shop and practice rooms upstairs ( near The Chedi )

There are a number of other small shops, I have been in almost all of them over the past few years.

There are also some small practice rooms in Chiang Mai, complete with equipment.. hire rates from 180 BHT per Hour.

if you like listening to live music combined with good Thai food, or just a drink, you could try The Riverside as a start...the Riverside has two resturants one on each side of the road accross from the Flower Market over the Ping River. the smaller on the river and a larger just accross the road and stay long enough to take in two bands, they change bands every hour or so.

    Happy Playing

    Lomax

  5. I notice when the Thai Weather bureau says something the opposite usually happens.  That's a fact.

I am still waiting for this...... :)

  6. Yes thats true Guenther is way out on the country between Sankampang Road and Doi Saket

But the place is loaded with Thais that not like farrang food :)

And they come in hordes on Sundays so the parking lot is full.

And you can not get there from here. :D

Guenther has a resturant at Kad Suen Kaew near Mike burger too.

Ball Park hotdog  Johnsonville is also available fozen at Rimping but too expensive.

  7. Have you tried the Audio shop top of Central Airport plaza? Next to Se-ed book store adjacent to the California fitness.

Or you could try the Sony shops or Chi Chang shops in the same area.

If money is not an object then I suggest you could get a wireless headphone.

  8. All sucks? I once tried a frank in Austria and it's not better than TGM or GM or even S&P.  In fact I think most of the food in even an upscale restaurant, take away in Austria and Switzerland are quite salty.

NO where and thats a fact Jack. :) Every frakfurter in this town sucks. :D
  9. Local beef , ie

    - Pon yan kham beef (Thai french)

    - KU Beef (Kasetsat University beef)

    - Northern Farm beef

Only choose those cuts like Rib eye, T-bone, porterhouse they are better quality than NZ and Australian Import beef available in CM.

Or.. you can get Canadian import and Angus certified ones from our famous supermarket they are expensive but worth the money.

and take the advice from this web site http://steamykitchen.com/163-how-to-turn-c...ime-steaks.html

or sprinkle seasoning salt on the steak before grilling at least 1 hour.

never marinade your steak in pineapple, papaya, vinegar or any other method that use acid.

May I ask why you say that?

On this topic a little while ago:

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Steak-Lover-...pineapple+juice

A poster advocated just that, using pineapple juice. Several other posters also commented. I have used pure pineapple juice to tenderize a steak and did not notice any problems.

    Just curious.

No problem, personally, it just the taste and texture that I don't prefer.

For stir fried, most Chinese restaurants use baking powder to marinade the beef or mutton for 20 minutes.

  11. Do we need a parallel thread running? :D

My Mistake. I gave up on reading the other thread after 5 or 6 pages. A few more pages would have brought me up to date on the starts stops and where. I guess I just got a little excited about the thunder today.

Moderator, feel free to close or delete this thread. I'll go wade through the rest of the other one. :)

Yes we can have parallel thread running for such phenomena, no worry about closing it down.

  12. Anybody know if Bake and Bite on Nimmanheim is still open I know the Chang Klan branch has closed

    Cheers

Bake and Bite sold their restaurant on Chang Klan Road and it is now Butter is Better and still has the same excellent menu that the original B&B had. I was there yesterday and Butter is Better has my business. :)

What soi is it near on Nimmanheim?

    Soi 6.

And yes it is very much still open for business, I had a cup of coffee there this morning.
