  1. Capitalizing such a business in Thailand is a very dangerous thing to do. I hope he is OK but it doesn't sound real good.

At every step, whether it be being involved with a woman, investing in a business or property, and often the first combined with one of the others, a farang's first and ongoing quest must be to assure that he isn't worth more dead than alive.

I have no idea what the State Department can do on Thailand's turf. The State Department isn't exactly Seal Team 6.

the first intelligent thing i heard in a long time.... a farang's first and ongoing quest must be to assure that he isn't worth more dead than alive.

  2. I would use the term 'Automobiles' loosely.

Probably some of the worst cars in history were excreted from China.

This is the best they can do....COPY...badly I may add.

    cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

some western car manufactures would love to have at least a litte of the economic grow rates Chinese car manufacturers enjoy. but they haven't they are in a crisis or the the Chinese bought them already.

guess whose laugh will last longer?

Chinese are not lazy to work... look Europe i can live the same life in Thailand on 20,000 bath rent and gf included

  3. As a fellow Belgian i can only support youre initiative but i think youre a little bit too late with youre bussines concept because there are already other companys such as belgian beverage asia co ltd importing Belgiums finest beers a simple google search would already have saved you a lot of money and trouble .

And i am Belgium to , what wrong with Sing, Leo, Chang.... were do you think the technology com's from ???? :) mmmm INBEV ring a bell yes even in thailand

  4. Surely the oiffer of 20 baht was a joke which got passed on or taken literally, i suspect.

Personally I have never paid a penny, explianed that I was against it and we discussed it, eventually 40k baht was used, 1 baht gold given to wife which she kept, money returned immediately after the ceremony. Family save face, everyone happy.

thats the way to go, better take care family all the time, but sure put some money and gold on the table just for respect for the family, just not insult the Mom with 20 bath that's stupid, remember you take her daughter, and income they don't have big retirement here, so think who have to help when mom get to old to work.Good system

  5. I hope the injured personnel make a full recovery, the fact that no one was killed is a testament to the pilot's skill and training, well done!

The pilot made a hard landing, they are trained not to, so the skill must have failed for a minute there.

I was a wildland fire fighter in the U.S. and flew on many, many helecopters...I noticed that they never say a helecopter "crashed"..it is always refered to as a "hard landing". even if the ship is totaly destroyed and all are killed.....still a "hard landing".

    Helecopter????

  6. I am sure the Thai military needs to remain ever ready at the beckon call of the US or is this a 'comply' order or else? What ever happened to Utapao revamp in favour of the US 'weather balloons'?

What are you possibly bleating on about....Cobra Gold has been a joint military exercise for decades and at the invitation of Thailand. It includes Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, USA, Japan and Korea. Thailand and The US have been treaty allies since 1833 and routinely train together across different military platforms.

    Yes

  7. Always feel sorry when lives are gone in a short, mysterious circumstances without any chance of being with loved ones, writing last wishes, hugs etc. Wish there is closure to the families somehow and those suffering after the fact.

While the whole story to us audience is shocking news, mainly because we are not there, and only "news" we have are report that stresses the word "poisoning". It sorts of imprinted in the mind now. Whether negative or not.

So take it into a macro level. "Poisoning". What does it mean? And how where why, who?

    1. Is it "food poisoning"? Is it poisoning from drinking alcohol at the restaurant, at a food stall, at the notorious Full Moon Parties?

    2. Is it poisoning of medication via contra-indication? E.g. medication that are not supposed to be taken together, allergy, wrong medication, mixed with food, spicy, alcohol, wrong alcohol, fake liquor badly mixed?

    3. Is it a purposely poisoning? Someone put poison onto the water or drink or food? Friend? New friend? Full moon party fake friend? Robbery friend? Staff?

    4. Poisoning from accidental consumption? E.g. debris of rat poison positioned at top of ceiling fell like minute crumbs onto her unlucky glass of water that was lying directly under?

    5. Poisoning because of drugs, be it on purpose? Or not, someone spiked it, at party? At drinks stall?

My condolences. Poor things. They must have suffered horribly and been overcome too quickly to ask for help.

This doesn't sound like any of the possible accidental causes you suggest. It sounds more like poisoning caused by arsenic or some kind of pesticide or rat poison.

    1. Is it "food poisoning"? Is it poisoning from drinking alcohol at the restaurant, at a food stall, at the notorious Full Moon Parties?

i eat only thai food from street i never see somebody die , is see thai and myself drink thai whiskey, drunk sometime but not die..

    2. Is it poisoning of medication via contra-indication? E.g. medication that are not supposed to be taken together, allergy, wrong medication, mixed with food, spicy, alcohol, wrong alcohol, fake liquor badly mixed?

no 2 at same time and spicy food keep me up 5555

    3. Is it a purposely poisoning? Someone put poison onto the water or drink or food? Friend? New friend? Full moon party fake friend? Robbery friend? Staff?

    that is more probably.

20 and 26 they are healthy

some party you not go to,

  8. First of all my thoughts and prayers go out to the family at this tragic time for them
My sympathies for the family. I see a lot of opinions here about how bad it is here; but don't see anything to back it up. I feel a lot safer here than in US and have felt that way for 40+ years. A lot of complaints and suspicions about Thai Authorities but It took the US half a year to track down the cause of deaths from Legionaries disease and then the cause was determined to be a bacteria that no one knew existed. If someone has some statistics to back up claims that Thailand is so bad; I would like to see it. I'm waiting!
If you look at this link for statistics for UK citizens for 2008 http://www.traveldailynews.com/images/upload/File/british-abroad-report-240809.pdf You can see that statistically you have a greater chance of dying or having an accident in Thailand.
The highest number of hospitalisations occurred in Spain (741), followed by Greece (433), France (203) and Thailand (198). As a proportion of the number of visitors, Britons were most likely to be hospitalised in Thailand, followed by Greece, Egypt and India
DEATHS The facts There were 5,629 reported deaths of UK citizens abroad including natural causes, accidental deaths and murders There were 1,825 British deaths in Spain, 611 in France, 438 in Germany, 288 in Thailand As a proportion of visitors British deaths are most likely to occur in Thailand, Germany, India and Cyprus
There are other factors that this list does not look at. A large proportion of deaths in Thailand of UK citizens are from natural, age related causes. Frankly we all know guys who drink way to much, we all know guys who have health problems (and often drink way to much). They are often found dead, alone in a room. (sad but happens all to often). This is also a country with lax safety and driving standards. Just before Christmas an 18 year old Brit was killed in Pattaya driving a powerful bike, he would never have been allowed to drive in the UK. We hear of many moped accidents where the Falang driver was not wearing a helmet. I am not excusing the death toll amongst tourists and ex-pats in Thailand, simply pointing out there are many factors that contribute Above all people come to Thailand on holiday. they drink more than they normally would and sometimes make stupid decisions. Along with things not being as safe as they are used to 'back home'

Good say, you right i live 4 year here never had problems, i am from Belgium i think it is more safe here

  9. Thai Department of Disease Control speculated that pesticide used as vermin control may have contributed to the deaths.

Meanwhile Thai forensics are the joke of the world. Downtown Inn deaths occurred 16 months ago and they are still speculating as to the cause.

There are websites that have sprung up relating to Thailand Travel Tragedies "unexplained deaths, aircrashes never conclusively investigated, murders, hotel (and nightclub) fires where fire exits were either blocked off or locked

'to prevent guests leaving without paying' the list is infinite. If the average Thai in the street only knew what the world thinks they would hang their collective heads in shame.

And now another two innocent young female tourists cut down before they have even begun to live. Don't bank on a definitive and exhaustive investigation into the lates on Phi Phi

please grow up,how many people die there in your country, and sure not from intecticide, most likely bad drugs, most people die same why as they die in there home country. ok we have rain we have flood, we have bad guy and bad lady, but i still love it here. thanks to all thai to make me feel so good

  10. why complain Police, if you stopped with your car you are happy to pay the full fine mai, NO you start complain to get more cheaper fine.

maybe they like some money on the site, but they do a good job about drugs. Many country can take a lesson from them.

i have many friend police they are friendly but under paid, if your family is hungry, what you do???Let say they do a good job, if you profit you are happy

  11. i guess it is ok for monk's to buy xxx movie's on that day and i see them drink johny blue label to, and then they come to **** your gf.

But aw we can not do fun stuff on that day, why the do not ban liquor on catholic holiday??? if you have to close your shop on all monk holiday's no wonder they are so much poor people.

I guess i don't mind i always can buy drinks and have the police drink with me when dark, Bangkok.

Police closed down some Gambling joints but aw they forgot one here have 50 + scooters before the door but police don't see.

and sure farang can be Monk to, easy life.

  12. Today's Thai mainstream society is really on the ball.

"But in Thailand, this occasion is considered by some adults as a dreadful time when many young and underage girls become pregnant."

If they are old eough to conceive, obviously they are not "underage".

What planet are you from? I'm sure they mean underage in the legal sense. Which here is a lot more up to local community mores and parent's discretion than national law, and enforced more through an informal system of civil fines and "shotgun marriages" than by the police.

I only wish more sensible people like the one who wrote this article were actually in charge, most Thai attitudes are completely irresponsible, both at the laissez-faire "that's just the way it is" bottom, and the hi-so public/official Victorian/religious moralist stance.

Bottom line comes down to parents, both in education and in supervision/enforcement. The government can only give a certain amount of appropriate assistance. Both sectors are woefully inadequate here, and we see the result everywhere.

BTW the comment about "most schools expel pregnant girls" really surprised me. I'd love to find a **single** example of a pregnant girl being allowed to continue her schooling, every conversation I've had on this topic implied that no family would even dare request such a thing, it's unheard of, of course a pregnant girl wouldn't be allowed to attend classes - including university!

Get a live, in my neighborhood parents talk about being close to there daughter 14, 15,16 i not like and i am married to thai lady. The sooner they have boyfriend the sooner they have more money, HEY its all about life... and money.

sex education starts from home, as much they love there kids as much they exploit them.

  13. I thought the tourist police were here to assist foreigners?

Never really have understood what the Tourist police duties are opposed to the regular police....surely there must be some demarkation as to who does what or is it who GETS what!

Easy i know a german who was caught in his own resto for making a coffee, if you don't want competition just make complain to tourist police, wow time's must be hard in Pattaya now.

  14. In my country, Thailand is completely associated with nice beaches, filled with prostitutes.

My girlfriend is Thai, and lives with me in New Zealand after endless preparation to get her here on the first attempt. I feel sad for her, as I see the look on some peoples faces when they find out she is Thai - they assume that she is a prostitute that I bought here, even though is has a bachelors degree and worked at Suvarnabhumi for 2 years prior to her arrival here.

The NZ media (a generally feminist, anti-male motivated machine) would love to do nothing more than show up all those "dirty men" that go to Thailand, and further demonise Thailand in the eyes of my countrymen. Shame on this pig for arranging child sex tours (which he did, I can confirm), though shame on the media for using deception to demonise a country which does not wholly deserve its reputation.

I agree, even my wive is manager in 3 stores if she walk on the street with me we get looks, lets get all the bar's closed and make thailand bankrupt more crime and more drugs, you have prostitution everywhere, and thailand is the only land i know where 99% of the sexworkers are freelance, so narrow minded people out there, try to understand why some lady do that job, to get food for there family and kids. Under age... i see pregnant girl here 14 year, so not only falang have sex with under age girl, as i disprove this but it is a fact. Thai lady can take care themselves and will do everything necessary.

Never look down to bargirl she put food on the table... and she not like to do it but have no choice, Not everybody is lucky to get a university degree

  15. I anticipate that this will be overturned on the basis of the applicable law. The operations were legal.

If the Italians spent as much time on straightening out their mess of an economy as they do on frivilous court cases, the country wouldn't be teetering on financial collapse.

Wile I agree with your sentiments concerning Italy, I am not sure that in this particular case, trying to find those responsible for 3000 deaths could be described as frivolous. The court has clearly established the two Aristocrats to be culpable in that they would have known the effects of their 'product'. Why, one rather large nation went to war in recent years over the deaths of 3000 of its citizens, and lets be fair, as far as the victims are concerned, the manner of death is irrelevant, the fact is they were all killed before their time and I am sure they would all like justice however it is handed out, be that a war or a judicial ruling for a prison term for those responsible.

i Lived about 25 years almost next to the factory in Belgium then they close it when study's came on hand that enterrnit causes cancer, i only say stupid to jail some men for just giving the region work, you have to jail contractors, building organisations and a lot more as 90% of governement buildings in Belgium are full with asbestos tomorrow you can go to jail for making sigaret, sure that's why the euro going down stupid narrow minded Europe. I am so happy here
