I know this thread is about yet another thing that make Thais look stupid.
I'm sorry if I kill the party now, not the intention.
Just to help some of you (you know who you are),
The whistle is to draw your attention, NOT for the purpose of communication (stop here, go there, etc).
The hand signals and body language in general is the communication.
Really?? Thai people must have VERY short attention span if they need constant whistling for minutes on end then...

Hi all
It seems like a nice enough building although the flats are tiny.
Does anyone have any experience - pros and cons of the area (a 10-min walk into Sukhumvit 77) or the building?

Journycnx has been doing deals all summer long. Think its was 700day. Their current deal is until the end of Oct and is 800/day. But even their regular prices are around 1000Bday
There are some cars on their website for 900 a day but when I sent them an email asking for a quote for one week they said 1200
-
Thanks!
Yes in fact now we are thinking of driving ourselves.
Any ideas on where I could rent cheaply? (I mean, less than 1000 a day)
-
Thanks for all the replies!
I would need a regular car, for 3-4 people only.
We will be staying for a few days (6-8) so I would like to explore the natural sights a bit too. I think that a car would be better for that, as public transportation is not so great from what I understand.

Hi all
Does anyone know how much it costs to rent a car with a driver (for a day / half a day) to do the usual touristy stuff?
And any recommendations?
Thanks!

Have you guys read his blog? Only last week he posted about why he loves Bangkok. Doesn't sound like he was unhappy here at all.
But of course, we cannot know what really went on with him and if it was depression, that just sneaks up on you from inside and kills you.
So sad. RIP.

What she did is very bad and she definitely deserves time in jail for it.
However, I didn't see anywhere in the article that she accused any particular men, just that she was raped by "three men". So I think the "hang'em high" brigade who claim that she "could have destroyed these men's lives" and should get a bigger punishment are way off.
The comment about ruining the image of Phuket (okay, contributing to that) is actually much more accurate in this case.

I'm not sure I agree. I've just discovered stock photos recently so I don't know much about them. But I don't think they are meant to show everyday moments but rather express an idea or a feeling - for example the calm of doing yoga. I don't think anyone would like to look at a real picture of someone who's just woken up!

Hello, sorry if this has already been covered somewhere, but I'm thinking of joining fitness first, mainly for the scheduled classes as I actually use the gym in my apartment block! In the UK I did fitness classes like combat/kickboxing, dance and zumba and they offer these in the membership....
So I was quoted the following prices (which were 'knocked down' from much higher starting prices):
Joining fee 499 thb
Admin fee 1600 thb
Body First (personal trainer) 1600 thb for first month only
monthly membership 2065 + 7% vat
Looking at your other posts, this looks quite normal, but I really don't need a personal trainer and was told that the 'body first' thing was not optional. Is that right? Has anyone else been told that?
Basically, I think it's a lot for what I want, as I really don't think I'll be going every day (possibly 2 classes and 1 workout per week) but she offered for me to come in a try 2 classes so I can see if they're worth it.
Does anyone have any other suggestions for fitness clases etc apart from fitness first/california wow?
Thanks in advance.
I think that's way too much, especially if it's for a one-year contract.
You definitely shouldn't pay joining fee and admin fee, and I've never heard of the mandatory personal trainer!
And the monthly fee is also too much, unless you only pay month by month and not have to commit to a one-year contract.

Malaysia is in the time zone GMT + 8. Thailand is in the GMT+7.
If it says 00:00 (GMT + 8), that means 00:00 in that time zone (in Malaysia in this case), NOT 8 o'clock in Malaysia. And Thailand is one hour behind so it will be 11 pm here.
Hope this helps :-)

Have some patience not that many people visit this forum.
I think your degree is a great achievement and I feel your pain, but I really don't know how to deal with this... I can see how most Thais will not have heard of the Open Uni or understand the concept. As for the Americans, for most of them any non-US degree is not a real degree...! so no surprise there either.

Thank you!
Google translate says the same thing but wanted to check because sometimes dictionaries don't give you what people actually say.
น้ำมันละหุ่ง
Now I can start asking around.

Forgot to mention - the nice thing about the capsules from Bumrungrad was that they are mega-strength to be be taken once a month. Really loved that as I hate having to swallow pills every day!
BUT - I HAD done the blood test and the results showed deficiency (probably because it's so hot here I hide from the sun as much as possible).
Doc also said too much of it is no good though so it's not recommended to take mega-doses without having had a blood test first.

Hi all
Does anyone know what is castor oil in Thai and where I can find it?
Thanks.

Hospital. Doc at Bumrungrad gave me capsules when I was diagnosed with deficiency, later I tried to find them in pharmacies but no luck so bought online instead (easier than going to the hospital!!).

A cheap camera outside the door linked up to your computer to record her behaviour when she comes calling. Then you can show it to the relevant people in the apartment building and have it as proof of her behaviour.
Great idea. Better yet, show it to her and tell her that it will end up on facebook if she doesn't behave.

Booking.com does not charge your CC until the day of your stay - normally you can cancel up to 24 hours before, unless it's some special offer that does not allow you to cancel.

I am surprised no one has mentioned the possible positive benefits of telling her.
If I was in a relationship and the guy told me "I had a vasectomy", my reaction would be:
"No need for condoms!!! No need for pills!!! No need to worry!!! YIIIIPPPPIIIIIEEEE!!! Thank you for not leaving the burden of contraception only on us women"
What burden do you have if he is wearing a condom?
Just makes it a bit less pleasurable. Plus you have to remember to buy them

Just in case...

Fantastic thread - thank you Ian for all the useful information and the gorgeous photos! So much better than any guidebook I've seen.

Hi all
I was prescribed Questran Light powder(cholestyramine resin with aspartame) but it didn't agree with me at all. I was too slow in taking it back to the hospital so they wouldn't give me a refund.
So now I have a box of 86 sachets (4g / sachet) that are sitting in my cupboard. It expires in February 2013.
If you use this medicine or know anyone who uses it, PM me please. It would be such a shame for it to go to waste as it's quite an expensive drug. I live in Bangkok.
Thanks.

Hi all.
Does anyone know where I can buy good quality aloe vera juice / gel in Bangkok?
I think I've seen it around but I can't remember where.
Now I have several digestive problems and I would like to give it a try.
Thanks!

I did the CELTA at ECC Bangkok. Great course, and the students were a mix of Thais and UN refugees who studied for free. No need to wear a tie either
