  1. Then of course the attendance record should be checked. But the language "test" they do..what are they basing that one? Are they drawing up various levels of testing depending on how many months/years a person has had a ed visa for? Some people understand Thai but have trouble conversing, some people can converse well depending on the topic/subject matter and vocab they have learnt. There are so many variables it seems a ridiculous concept. If they want to check up on those on an Ed visa, seems fair enough to me, but the idea of a test and those who judge you if its not regulated in some way seems a bit stupid. Each school has different methods, vocabulary etc. Who draws up the "test" and how is it marked/measured?

I agree that the testing would need to be planned, designed, and administered carefully. Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses, and learning Thai as a 2nd (or 3rd, etc) language is much more difficult for some than others. Personally, I attended a Thai class twice a week for 6 months - not for an ED visa, just for "fun." I worked hard, participated in class, and did my homework. After the 6 months, I still had much weaker Thai than some friends who just "picked it up" through daily living. Learning additional languages is just not one of my strengths. As others have said, attendance seems to be a more fair way to check the legitimacy of an ED visa. One guy could walk into immigration and be able to converse semi-fluently in Thai because he spends all his time with bar girls and various Thai girlfriends instead of going to class. Is he more deserving of an ED visa than someone who actually goes to class and puts in the classtime? No, not in my opinion. Of course, I'm not saying it's a bad idea to monitor all these ED visas, I just don't think an on-the-spot, informal conversational test is the best monitoring system.

IF you want something to be fair, you shouldn't be in Thailand. Thailand do not own you a living and they can do anything they want even if you disagree with it. You are a guest/alien here and that is the fact, it's their land and they set the law and the way they monitor you.

  2. AFAIK, only a Thai citizen can form a sole proprietorship - and that Thai national can then employ 1 farang for every 4 Thai staff that are registered as employees of that person, (or only 2 Thai staff if you are married to the sole-trader).

Any type of serving job - ie a somtam cart is a forbidden employment for a farang.

Even if these are the rules to employ a farang in a sole-trader, they are not always followed by the Labour Office. I tried to get a WP to work in a sole-trader hotel business but was refused on 2 occasions on the bais that it was a sole-trader and not a limited company.

What about LLP (Limited Liability Partnership). 2 farang and 1 thai. Is it possible?

  3. Take a taxi - U-tapao is outside of Pattaya. It is a military base. If your flight is leaving from there make sure you arrive in plenty of time, bit hectic but they are doing the best they can.

sorry, you mean take a taxi from bangkok? or from pattaya.

DOes it mean that i take a bus from bangkok to pattaya and from pattaya take a taxi to the airport.

If you are going on a bus....bus BKK to Pattaya...taxi from Pattaya to UTP...any taxi driver in Pattaya should know where it is...BTW..UTP is not in Pattaya its in Sattahip..

Thank you, i will take note of that.

  4. anyone please?

If you are coming in the case two possible ways both as easy as each other, there are other ways, but these ways have the minimum number of turns

Out BKK stay on the motorway all the way into Rayong...you will come to a set of traffic lights on the motor way, (the only one, between BKK and Rayong) sign says Ban Chang, turn right off the motor way and drive 20 kms to Ban Chang, come past the Ban Chang Palace hotel and keep going till you hit Sukhumvit (set of lights), turn right onto Sukhumvit and head towards Sattahip to Kilo 11, at the lights turn lift and drive about 2km, Gate to UTP on the lift hand side, in the gate, give the nice soldier your DL or ID and get a metal visitors plate and drive about 3 kms to the T junction and turn left...+/- 2.0km to airport terminal

Alternative route, get into Pattaya onto Sukhumvit, head towards Sattahip to get to Kilo 11 (same set of lights as above) directions as above.

The motorway route is longer distance wise, but quicker than going down Sukhumvit through Pattaya.

That is a good information. However i am not driving or plan to hire a driver.

I am on budget and thinking of getting a bus to pattaya then maybe van or taxi to the airport. Is this the best and cheapest way? I need to know where to alight when i am at pattaya and what sort of public transport they have at pattaya, is it just taxi?

  6. Hi,

i was thinking to go for my body checkup in bangkok. Any one knows where to go for it that is economical, somewhere in the mid-range price tag.

    What about at Bumrungrad hospital.

They have, I think, 4 level packages - diff prices of course

Ranging from....walk-in walk-out sabai sabai,...to....being probed and poked like a lab mice

Call them up, stop by, or look into their main webpage

    best of luck :o

That is 10000 baht for that.. hmm is that consider cheap?

  7. Don't forget for marriage visa you can use both money in the bank and income from abroad.

    example:

THB. 200,000 in the bank and and yearly income of THB 280,000 will suffice.

or THB 100,000 in bank and THB 380,000 income,

    As long as both come to THB 480,000 i.e. - THB 40,000 x 12 months = THB 480,000

I do not think that is correct.

According to the police order 606/2549.

If he does not have the family income he / they must have 400,000 in the bank.

    For those Grandfathered.

iam planning to marry my thai gf. So what is needed now? Is it a 400k baht in bank AND a monthly 40,000 baht income?

Opps i read it, it is 400k baht OR monthly 40,000 baht income of both party :o

  8. Taking a bus from Mo Chit bus station would probably be your cheapest option. There are air conditioned 1st class buses (rot tua or rot ae) that are reasonably comfortable but the trip will take a long time. You could also take a train to Khon Kaen (368 baht 1st class one way) then a van or taxi from there to Mahasarakham. The train is also slow but a lot more comfortable than a bus. A second class train ticket is about half the price of first class and still pretty comfortable. State Railway of Thailand website click here. If you can afford it, you could also fly PB Air to Roi Et then take a van or taxi or rent a car and go to Mahasarakham. Mahasarakham City is only about 25 miles Northwest of Roi Et on Highway 23. The round trip flight will cost you about 5,340 baht, but its fast and efficient. PB Air website click here.

Thank you very much for your detailed suggestion. I like that. :-)

  9. Fly to Khon Kaen and rent a car or fly to Roi Et.

Thanks Mr sunrise. Any other way beside this.

If i gonna take a bus, i will go crazy and need a MP3 with 1 millions songs in it. Cheaper way i mean.

So you won't fly (cheapskate), rent a car (can't drive and cheap?) or take a bus cos it drives you crazy and want cheaper way - hmmmmmmmm - difficult guy to please to do your stuffs with your company in Mahawotsits. Howsabout this then .......... third class train to Ban Phai or Khon Kaen and then hitch the rest of the way (about 70 kms)? Not the fastest or most reliable way and you'll still need you million MP3 hits, but it'll cost you less than 150 baht and you'll soon learn if your "company" loves you for your magnetic personality or your wallet. :o:D

Hey, it is not me who refuse to fly. It is her. Anyway, i just want more "easy" options to intro to her. She seems to prefer to be tortured than to spend one more baht.
