  1. I think its purely down to all the factors that have been done to death here, but sadly we all know that the Immigration Officers are the boss and last and final contact point for us to gain our stay each year.

It seems that the officer was correct if I read it and without a work permit how can you have an income in ThaIland, its black and white to them, hence he asked for 400,000 k baht, sadly as previously mentioned showing him on your Ipad the rules and regs will have clearly got up his nose and compounding that with asking to see his supervisor meant closing ranks.Maybe a short term loan on your house will help you while you season the 400K baht and to be honest make your life easier moving forward...It took me 6 years of jumping through hoops and I like you have a child, wife, house, but I keep the cash in the bank locked away for infinity, this year my extension took 15 minutes, never known ity so good, why it took hours every other year god only knows.!! nothing has ever changed.

Dust yourself down, stand up straight and best foot forward, no matter how hard they make it you can overcome it, its worth it in the long run, make the change now and get with their programme and all in good time this will seem like a long bad memory, well forgotten !!

I guess you skipped all the posts saying that the 40k baht income option is allowed.

I have gotten 6 consecutive extensions based upon marriage with just an income document. The OP had 4 before this one the same way.

The immigration officer was 100% wrong.

No, but is it that they are tightening up on the rules ?? who knows, if you have an income surely you are working was my point and how easily one could be confused by the rules, not what's been done before its what's being done today surely.

Lets hope then its not a new rule and an income document will no longer suffice.

  3. Hi Krisb

If this helps in Rayong to have a double socket fitted will cost from 150 baht - 500 baht depending on the guy, i have used many Thai Electricians here they are about the same standard, friends of ours Thai had new extension build recently with a run of about 30 metres to jump to the old box and new box fitted and numerous points and all inclusive it cost 17000 baht, so a whole house IMHO for a THAI !! should be on the 50K mark if you buy all your own parts and only pay for labour,

These are only guesstimates but sockets 3 pin CE marked wall sunk 250 if my memory serves me and 3 strand copper wire 2.5 is about 20 baht a metre last time I checked..but they may have been 1.5..

Lights I would not pay more than 500 baht per unit depending on what he had to do, more if it was only one item..

Get three quotes and ask him to show you other work he has done..

  4. I find this site quite a bit cheaper, I haven't owned a pool, but I am tempted to try a metal frame pool for 6,900 baht

    http://www.peterpoolthailand.com/

    Monkeypants

thanks for this,I have seen these and they look like great value too, sadly he only goes to 90cm and my not quite 4 year old daughter is already 107 !! so sort of too small be fore we start..

Just still amazed as to why they are so much more expensive Intex that is than they are in the UK and USA..fat pockets somewhere.!

Last option is to saw down my daughter legs a litte, save a bit on food too, sure she has hollow legs.

  5. Don't buy one at that price. They are nothing but a problem. My wife has turned my 24 foot pool into a fishpond. The filters last a a few weeks and then cost Bt900.The structure holding the whole thing together rusted. The material leaked.

I complained to Toyz about it and he offered to sell me a new one for only BT35,000. Half the price I paid. That is a 24 foot diameter round pool! I tink at that price its not too bad. You could change the filter for a sand one for about Bt15,000.

    Gamini,

Thanks, maybe back to the drawing board, I as hoping this would be a better option than digging a pool..seems maybe not.! at 35,000 worth would be not far off UK prices..Thanks Again

  6. Hi,

has anyone any good experience with thses pools? been given a link to toyz.net webiste but their prices are very expensive in comparrison to the Uk or USA for the 16 ft pool here almost 60,000 baht UK/USA half the price, taxes are surely not that much !!! can they be bought anywhere else for better deals..

    Thanks

  7. Hi All,

I am looking to put a pool in the garden mainly for my daughter to play in and nothing too big approx 6 m x 4 m x 1.2 deep

Please constructive advice I already know the potential issues with Thai builders,so I will be managing it myself

I am trying to get an idea from some of you very clever engineers/experienced soles here as to what i will need to buy so I will drop a list of what I think I need and any pointers or things I have missed please let me know.

I will need a re- inforced concrete wall lined with steel(any ideas on size would be good) Thai guy says he can make the mix !! should I use CPAC ?

Does it need a bottom drain ?2 way I am not in an area that floods ! do i need a skimmer ?

Tiles I will use 8 inch squares as they are a fraction of the cost, but I know I need to use weber products for sticking and grouting.

Now the bit I am stuck on, I have seen in the large wholesale shop in Rayong a salt chloirinator, which I think is all I need ? other than a pump and filter ? but sadly the item is easy to buy the support was not available to confirm, do I need a sand fillter?

prices there are salt chlorinator was 13000 baht and pump and filter 13000 baht is this about right ? can thses items be bought less expensively ? I think other than bags of salt thats all I need ??

Thanks in advance for those who take the time to respond.

  8. Maybe should be a new post - but it just blows my mind that 3-phase would be required for domestic use vs "30/100" single. To me, it's what the grid can supply and, if they can adaquetly supply the 100a then why would anybody need 3-phase?

    Hi bankruatsteve,

Sorry I could not find anywehere else to put the post that would fall on the experts in these forums, this is for a business, sorry for any confusion.

    Nick

  9. Crossy,

Thanks, this seems a very simple check for me to complete..A Thai electrician has told me I need an upgrade, but I want to check first and this sounds like it will at least allow me to check before I throw 30,000 baht at an upgrade that may not be required.

    Nick

Nick you may want to repeat the check with all your aircons set to 18C to make sure they're running at the same time. If you turn them all off you can also check consumption of your IT kit to get an idea what the extra PCs will use.

Just post the figures here and I'll bash the numbers.

    EDIT Whilst we're waiting:-

    54000 BTU of A/C will draw about 23A, a further 9000 will add a further 5A = total of 28A on A/C

So if you can get your total of 46 PCs below 80W each you'll be OK, unlikely even if they're diskless sad.png

Check if you can upgrade to a 30/100 supply, it will be cheaper than having to go to 3-phase.

    Crossy,

Thanks so much,I am sure I can move it to a 30/100 as I think thats available, however, I thought that was three phase, maybe lost a little in translation.! I am assuming this would only require a breaker upgrade to 100 amps and cable from the outside lines to the box? and I would not expect that to cost the 30,000 baht the electrician has mentioned.!

    Thanks Nick

  10. At first sight you're likely pushing things but why not check what you are actually using, it may well be a lot less than you think.

Go and buy or borrow a clamp type amp meter and stick it over your live incoming cable. If you can get a meter with peak hold so much the better so you can check for the actual maximum load.

Fire up everything you would normally use and check what you are actually using.

Whilst you're at it check one of the computers (you'll have to split out a cable so you just clamp the live), despite the fact they have 500W power supplies they will actually be using nothing like that.

A 9k A/C will use about 5A when running so add that plus 9x whatever the computer is using and you'll have your answer. If it goes anywhere near 45-50A you'll need a supply upgrade.

    EDIT

Alternatively and cheaper (free) you can use your electricity meter. During a normal operating period observe your meter and count how many times the disc goes round in 5 minutes. Note the calibration factor of your meter (R/kWH) and then we can work out your average consumption.

    Crossy,

Thanks, this seems a very simple check for me to complete..A Thai electrician has told me I need an upgrade, but I want to check first and this sounds like it will at least allow me to check before I throw 30,000 baht at an upgrade that may not be required.

  12. Online gaming/internet cafes only have problems if you dont have windows licences, their are now very few, infact only 2 games, that require a licence currently.

PS2 /Xbox etc will all be without licence as they are if I am correct, only for home play...all the games will be copies on chipped machines...

I can also tell you that there are a number of online games in Thailand and MW3 is not as popular as you might think, albeit new on cracked servers, incidently there is also football...

  13. I am trying to decide on what to buy as my bike upgrade and there are obviously lots of bikes out there, but pound for pound it seems that Wheeler or Merida seem to have the best specs for around the 20-25000 baht mark..They include, Shimano 27 deore gears/Hydraulic breaks, lightweight frames..

I would appreciate any thoughts feedback from anyone who has one or knows these brands.

Plus if I have missed one do let me know..

    Thanks

  15. Hi All,

I am going mad with this,I have a note book running original windows vista, home premium.

I have an epson printer, the second one as I swapped it after the com would not see the first one.

I load the drivers alls goes well and then thats it nothing, its just does not print.

I have checked everything, please note not a dummy, reloaded the drivers, cleared everything,no other issues on the com and running kaspersky anti virus, again registered..

Not sure what to do next, anyone else had issues or know of a fix >?

    Regards

  16. Well firstly I am devastated as the rest of you....I live for my torrents and its the only thing that keeps me sane here with television...if only we could buy Uk TV from the local market.

Anyway currently I am blocked on the sites mentioned, however I have one site with you can use another method for download and thats seems to be working ok,I am still getting 90KBs.

I do remember this happened about 6 months ago I panicked and change my torrent programme only to find a couple of days later it all came back on again.!

the only other option will be to user a server based in bangkok where you can pay for download limits and then collect with flashjet daily..always options..
