1. Can someone please tell me where I can exchange 200k TB for US dollars.

    Thank you

How many US dollars would you like? Tell you what . . if you can't be bothered going to the bank to do it, I'll give you $1000 for them.

Happy to help a fellow TV member.

So good of you to help out Bendix.

    OP, where you live ?

Thank you. I am in central Bangkok. The exchange kiosks will not sell US money.

    Naka.

  2. My luk kreung son is now 2 years and 6 months old and is looking to get into the modelling profession for magazines, etc. He's done a little print work already and is eager to do more. Anyone with any connections for magazines or other media looking for handsome young little ones?

Would someone please point out to me where the man asks for opinions on child modeling. It seems to me he asked a simple question and a bunch of fargin self righteous ice souls are raking the guy over the coals.

  3. Patisan politics = mindlessness.

    Vote buying?

In the west politicians go for the special interest groups, who then quite openly vote en bloc.

The gay community votes for the gay friendly candidate. The religious community votes for the former minister or the candidate that brings God into every campaign speach. Do you think the military are going to vote for the pacifist, or the candidate on a platform that includes cuts in defence spending?

The TRT did a good job of placating the poor with bread and circuses. Real change will come when these people storm the Bastille. How many among us are willing to sacrifice our comfortable lives here in favour of promoting a real life for the majority of the Thais?

Give the man a fish and he'll eat today; give him the Net and he'll forget about food while he sits and posts mindless rhetoric.

  4. Let me get this straight in my head. Thaksin and his henchmen ran the country like their own business and ladeled off the cream. They became hated by the country for selling a telecommunications company to the Singaporians which lead to paranoid panic amongst the populace.

    Let me help you.

Thaksin and his henchmen ran the Country like their own business and ladeled off the cream?

According to who? The Junta? Why would you believe that propganda? The guy was a billionaire long before his political life.

Selling a Communications business to Singapore?

Yes, It was his company, started long before he got into politics. Didn't belong to Thailand. The Junta propoganda made it sound like he sold an asset belonging to the Country. Wrong.

The coup waasn't about Thaksins corruption. It was about his enemies wanting to rip off the country.

Look at the mess they made since the coup.

Please, correct me if I'm wrong. My wife has just informed me that Mr. Thaksin didn't just sell his communications company to Singapore. According to her, every country has a right to claim the air space above it in order to place and use communication satellites. Mr. Thaksin was granted a concession to Thailand's claim and this he then sold to Singapore. Beyond being a breach of ethics, the military belive it to be a security risk. Is this a fact?

  5. He's the autistic son of the owner of the Landmark Hotel. Just hope 'autistic' will not be the new excuse du jour for the 'rebels without a cause'. :o
This was posted in a closed thread about this, does anyone here know if this is true? If so, then voting with wallets by not using the Landmark and the associated outlets springs to mind.

    Regards

I very much doubt that he is "Autistic", but if he is, then it would make things a little clearer to know exactly where he sits on the Autistic Spectrum. I just find it highly unlikely that someone with "Autism" would be driving a car around with a licence and insurance without appropraite risk assesment. My own feeling is, that a diagnosis has probably been bought after the incident.

Thais misuse the word autism. To them it means any mental disorder from slow learner or retarded to Down's syndrome.

Thailand must have the record for public holidays.

They seem to have a different definition of 'public holiday' from America.

I may be wrong, but I've never known any schools to be closed nor businesses to be shut down on Chinese New Year nor Loy Kratong Day. I teach at a government school and we have classes on both December 25 and January 1.

Edited to change the preposition after different to appease the grammar police

  7. Hi, I hope this will be of some help. I can't remember the exact fee, but I think I paid 200 baht per document.

    Good luck.

Have all documents certified at the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs. While only the English declaration needs to be notarized by the Embassy, both the English declaration and Thai translation must be certified at the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs to acknowledge that the signatures appearing on the documents are recognized. This will take a maximum of two working days.

Documents for legalization can also be mailed to the following address with the application form and money order in Thai Baht payable to Laksi Post Office.

    Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Legalization Division , 3rd floor, Department of Consular Affairs

123 Chaeng Watthana Road, Bangkok 10210

    Tel: 0 2575-1056 - 9, Fax: 0 2575-1054

    Hours: 08:30 to 11:30, and 13:00 to 15:30.

  8. I find the word 'about' to be one of the most misused words in the students' vocabulary.

From advanced students: Thailand has man famous about tennis name Paradon. I am studying masters about aerospace engineering. My father has a job about selling.

The fluency camp will argue that it's OK, while the accuracy camp will argue no way.

  9. I don't know much about immigration laws, but to be denied entry and to have a warrant out for your arrest seem to differ greatly in gravity. If it is the latter, then calling immigration could be setting yourself up for a sting.

If you could give a hint as to the nature of your transgression, perhaps someone could speculate on the risk involved.

  10.
Anyone who travels in a third-world/developing country without putting their money in a money belt, or at the very least, the pocket of a pair of cargo pants (with a zipper and velcro fastener over that), deserves to be relieved of their ill-protected wealth.
Excellent post. After all, it wouldn't be a third world country if you didn't blame the victim every time.

I would concede that it takes Two to Tango, Bfuddled. Just don't be the other, unwitting, careless partner. Or, you'll end up like your nick.

I agree 100%. Nobody DESERVES to be robbed, but third world and developing countries will never share our degree of civilization as long as they believe that the victim is fair prey. So, we should always be careful and never let our guards down.

  12.
Permission was granted to copy these Buddhist Scriptures regarding the prophecy of the Holy One (Jesus) from Wat Phra Sing in Chiang Mai Province. The person who gave permission was Phra Sriwisutthiwong in Bangkok. It is guaranteed that this copy is accurate according to the original, that there is no error in transmission, which is in the book of the district headman, the religious encyclopedia, volume 23, book #29. This inquiry was made on October 13, 1954 A.D. (Buddhist era 2497). Phra Sriwisutthiwong is the Deputy Abbot and Director of Wat Pho Museum, Wat Pho Temple, Thailand.

I find this quite disturbing. I'm not implying that I find anything wrong with what Christians believe, but there is no comparison to what I believe that Buddha taught. The underpinning of my Buddhist believes lie in fundamental altruism and basic quantum physics.

Do you think many Thais believe in the message in this text? What percentage do you think?

  13. There's never been a capable leadership that can plan the economy and an education system that produces workers relevant to the economy.

There was a capable leadership, but that leadership was unceremoniously asked to exit his job and his country.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but didn't that same capable leader undertake the education portfolio in his first months in office, until he was unceremoniously asked to exit within a few short months by the old guard in the MoE?
