  1. However, they can taste just as good, especially in a lemon grass soup - tom yum pla lai - or chopped into pieces and stir-fried in a wok with whatever veg is to hand or "pad ped" style.

or as smoked Eel. Friend of mine is doing that. Yummy :o

  2. expats, so what the heck 20 Baht and your motorbike is guarded as well

    your joking right?

you actually think that paying the 20 baht for parking means that your bike is guarded??

even "proper" security guards dont really care what goes on much less a parking attendant

    "guarded" sorry for mistake

the trick is NOT to pay when you park, but tell them "solly no change, pay when come back" and believe me, they WATCH your motorbike. Just to make sure you pay your 20 Baht upon return.

works fine with me all the times ! lol :o

  3. exactly this is what I thought. these kind of Bus services, I think, work only from Bkk to other destinations

once again I think the majority of people interested in our Service/ Online shop are expats living in remote areas of Thailand, FAR AWAY from city centers like Korat, Buriram, KK, Udon, CM etc

Sure people living in Bkk, Pttya, Hkt, Samui (the tourist centers) have more or less all available or at least in easy reach.

However, since we will import as well (maybe not right from the beginning), there might be the odd product, which is not available even in Bkk !

So watch out this Forum for further announcements

  4. Is EMS the way to do it?

I would have thought that the overnight buses (plus e-mail notification to the addressee of exactly which bus the container is on) would be quicker and as dependable.

try all out, that's why we need some "Guinea Pigs" lol

  5. leave the island on the airport highway

then follow the signs to Krabi

until you see signs leading you to Surathani !

coming toward Surathani you have big signs Koh Samui and Ferry (which is about 70km OUTSIDE Surathani !) which is in Dongsak

there you can choose Seatrans and anotherone leaving every Hour

    5-10K, big budget !

just go to Central in Chaweng (busiest place on the island)

    have fun

  6. they charge ANYONE !!

you can see how many less motorbikes are parked now especially from Thai staff working up Bangla etc

those made up like 90% of parkers in the early evening hours

for tourists was no space lateron and place got cramped

expats, so what the heck 20 Baht and your motorbike is guarded as well

the Soi next to Tai Pan charges 20 Baht since years and nobody complains

btw the "Parking guys" rented the "Soi" from the actual owner, who is (nobody really knows)

funny though that police comes every now and then to lock up motorbikes, since it is a private street !!!!

    T.I.T.

  7. Just to add that most of our staff have free accomodation if required as well.

Heck chavy, the unions would have a field day if gender was specified in a job description in England or Australia for that matter! :D

    Soundman.

Your not wrong there. On the advertising board outside the factory specifically states females only & an age between 18 - 25 and no shorter than 1.50 m

Not to hijack an intelligent post (I'm thinking of moving to Chonburi with the wife and finding something for me to do business wise, small food or coffee or beer place) but my biggest concerns and questions are about what will be required of the crooked police and mafia? I can't imagine all these stories about bribes are not true... A farang face on a new storefront, what kind of things will I be concerned about?

Maybe I should go to work for someone else... :D I'm a plumber and building inspector in the states. Probably not much call for this type of instruction or service in thailand? Thanks guys. max.

p.s. yes, I'm looking up to you business owners! :D

Max, you should maybe start an own thread with your questions

    would be helpful for all

  8. check www.customs.go.th. There is a link to the customs tarrif online, also in English.

Is the OP German (Seppl sounds a bit Bavarian to me...)? Then you may also check with www.zoll.de for the "Taric". The tarrif numbes are more or less the same world-wide, but cross-check with the Thai system as exceptions apply!

    Thanks will check accordingly

and the OP is BAVARIAN :o

  9. yeah smart is right

but why Ranong ? there are so many beautyful islands around Phuket and in Phang Nga Bay easily accessible by daytrips

    from Phuket

and since they stay only 5 days ?!

    Seppl

  10. buy thai beef from local markets in the morning

    Baht 140/ kg

bleed it out and "age" it for about 5 days in the fridge

when it starts to get "greenish" on the outside it is well

and then any Thai beef is as tender as we Farangs used to get abroad :o

When you say bleed it out and age it for 5 days....what do you mean? Drain the bllod and then just stick in the fridge for 5 days? Let me know so I can try!!

no, what I mean is Butchers at markets normally have "fresh meat" meaning slaughtered just a few hours before (provided you go early in the morning). In Western countries you buy beef, which is "aged".

I do my own ageing by:

    1. having one of those larger rectangular plastic containers with a kind of tray inside (you get them at lotus, Big C etc

these containers they sell normally in order to put fresh vegetables into the fridge

2.I just put the 1-2 kg of Meat on top of that tray and seal the container airtight

    3. put it in the fridge and normally you see after a while blood in the bottom of the container

    4. this works very well even for frozen tenderloin from Thai-French etc

    5. clean the blood out every day ! otherwise it starts smelling badly

    6. wait 4-5 days (this is really up to taste) untill you see a greenish reflexion on the outside of the meat

    7. ok, it smells a little, but many Chefs told me that's the way beef is the best

tried it many times and works ok

1-7 we normally don't know cause it is done by the western suppliers BEFORE the meat ends up in the supermarket

I heard from some "Nutritionist" that if the blood is still in the Meat, that's what makes it "hard" upon cooking, bbqing

Of course meat quality depends much more on how the cattle is fed and how the meat is cut.

Have you ever seen a Thai butcher cutting meat from a carcass ? O.M.G. !!

Anyway this is just a homemade "recipe", which gives you cheap, halfway decent steaks !

Maybe a real Chef or somebody who knows the why and how can explain us better here

    good luck

    Seppl :D

  11. My first VAT refund was three years in the making. Even then, I only received about 50% of the VAT due me. Now, I get a check every month and its about 90% return.

Can anybody recommend me a good accountant? I export for almost 10 years and never received the VAT. The only way they give (a part) back is examining my books very close, and then they will ofcourse aways find something what is not 100% clear, and then the fine is always almost the same as the refund :D

My current accountant informed me that monthly VAT refunds can only be done for companies with yearly turnover of more than 100 Million THB. I am just under that :o I can only apply for the yearly refund.

    Thanks

can name some good Accountants, but that depends where your biz is !

  12. Hospitality Industry:

normal staff (no English): Baht 5,000/ month + share of Service Charge

staff with English: Baht 6,000/ month + share of Service Charge

12 hour shifts with possibility to take 1-2 hours off, if "nothing to do"

7 days a week in Season, off season 1 day off per week

try to recruit from Village and pay for English lessons

all staff have housing free and 3 meals a day free

    Seppl :o

  13. Sounds just wonderful, but how long will the dry ice last here in Thailand ??

I ask because I can see this service being used by those of use that live out in the sticks, and only drive into BKK or Pattaya 1x per year.

EMS = parcel is delivered by the local postman on his motorbike… he comes mostly 6days per week between 2 and 5 pm…… If there is heavy rain, or he is unwell, than there is no delivery that day, I have lived here 4 years so well used to the delivery..

Therefore the EMS package would be in transit at least 26hours.. in the next Village post office they need parcels before 12 noon for next day delivery so = 26 + hours

thanks for the input ! will take all into account.

Just register as a "Guinea Pig" (see my post in Isaan Forum) and we try it out with you :o

  14. I can tell you that NOBODY in Phuket oes burgers like I have had in Houston, and with that said, we will have a BadA$ burger on the menu. For those who know burgers like we know them. No offense to any countries out there, but America makes the best burgers. Philly Cheese Steaks, Cajun Atkins Wraps, Grilled Prawn with Cajun Alfrado Sauce, and Fat Hen Gumbo. Anyone ever heard of a TurDucKin? Or a deep fried Turkey?

We will be fresh. Our Chef will be on hand to assure authenticity, and to do Quality Control. We will have a Resturant Manager and either will be on hand to see to our customers needs. We will bring a new attitude as well as a new management approach to our place.

Our staff won't want to quit. We will offer benefits to our staff.

    Free ChildCare

    Free English Lessons Daily

Free rides to and from work via motorbike taxi

    Free uniforms

    and more...

As I said before, some people buy boats, some buy airplanes, me...I'm doin Cajun Food.

As long as I can pay my staff, we will be successful, and we aim to stay in Rai Wai.

    tox

don't get me wrong, but seeing all what you plan staffwise and all the fringe benefits

either you must have a huge Restaurant with high table turnover or skyrocked prices and that in an area where the most stingy people live in Phuket lol :o

when is the opening again ?

    Seppl

  15. JR Texas and others

Gyros: as far as I know normal Gyros (western european style would be a log mixed of pork and mutton)

as mutton is not very popular in west europe gyros places normally then use only pork

funny though, Gyros as we know it does not exist in Greece (I am being told by people visiting the place)

Pita bread: here what you get as Pita bread is more this Lebanese style bread for shwarma to be filled in

what I know as Pita bread from Greek Restaurants in Germany the bread is fresh(warm) size of a small Pizza and rather thick, and nothing to be filled in

    any similar experiences here ?

Tsaitsiki: watch out for my new Mail Order Shop, there you'll have it.

homemade and best Tsaitsiki in Thailand, yet !

anybody can supply decent Pita Bread ?

    :o:D

  16. If it is a couple of kilos of King Island prime rib I'll volunteer. :D

:o don't overdo it soundman ! my generosity is limited to a few sausages, maybe a frozen goulash with dumplings (Knoedel) and a pie :D

  17. I've eaten a few (quite a few) of those pies over the past month, and they are very good. The best Phuket made pies I've found so far. The latest offering of pork pie & egg will be a winner once it gets past the experimental stage, but very good even now. Only negative is the price, bit more expensive compared with other home made pies such as Lady Pie and Sheila's (although I've heard Sheila's not doing pies any more ?), but quality costs more.

I wish the OP and his lady the best of luck. I'll be placing my next order soon.

Let me clarify one thing: SHEILA is still doing Pies and more than ever (she asked me to post this)

However she doesn't sell anymore to Deli Supermarket

Believe me she is up and running like hel*

Nothing bad against the new ones, haven't tasted them yet :o

  18. Ok, lets see how this new forum works :D

Is there anywhere ,online preferably, where one can check classification of products and their import duties.

    English version appreciated.

used to have big books in Europe with each and every possible product or product type along with the to be paid import duty.
