Also consider Panasonic LX5 (or even the older but still excellent LX3). In my eyes the better camera compared to the S90/95: Faster lens (2.0 24 mm vs 28 mm --> 3.3 vs 5.8 at Tele), Flash/Viewfinder Hotshoe, real 16:9 vs cropped pic at Canon, and I just love the IQ of this Camera! Outstanding!

It is called checks and balances, and Constitution.
As much as I would like to use a 3G phone in Thailand, I have to admit there is something positive about the Courts safeguarding the constitution, which, if we like it or not, has clear procedures written down, that deserve to be followed, or the Consitution to be rewritten.
Now the question if it is really necessary to write such specified details in the constitution is allowed, but the facts remain, and I am happy that the courts did not bow to the public and governmental pressure here.
Begs the question why this commission required has not been founded, after more than 3 Years after the referendum. This is the scandal.

with Torrents the results arrive earlier at the destination, and the coding and debugging process can start earlier ....
I 100% certain I can pull a movie down quicker from RS than you can from a torrent (in Thailand)
Maybe, but thats not my point.
Imagine I edit code that needs to be fed to collaborators.
With ftp. I upload to the server, alert my partners, and they download. Time it takes is the time it takes for my upload. and the download time it takes them.
With Torrents. once I have seeded about 110 to 120%, most leechers have the file then already.
As said before, Torrents is a way of sharing (giving and taking), there is no place in it for people who are only interested to leech (receive, download).

The Philippines is among the countries that just stamp your passport, no Visa Sticker required for most Westerners for a Holiday trip.

I found a Canon 7D incl Canon EFS 15-85 mm, Canon EFS 28-300 mm, 4Gb memory, battery, charger and camera bag. Everything for 1315.79 US incl shipping with UPS! Listprice must be just under 5000 US.
The funny thing is that they say the package will weight 1.0 kg but when I add the weight of the camera and the lenses that is more than 3.0 kg.
What happen when you send your money to China and tere will be no camera coming?
It is probably too cheap to be true!
There is no EF-S 28-300 from Canon on the market!!!
There is a EF 28-300 L IS lens, which costs Bt. about 90000 Baht list in Thailand, and is a monster in terms of size and weight.
The 7D body lists at 59 ooo here and the 15-85 at about 35000.
You can probably get that all for about 15% cheaper here when you buy gray import (and save an additional 10-20% (maybe) when bought in the US), but still, the price difference is so huge that it just cant be real! Caveat Emptor, most likely a fraud.

Once it works, TOT is as good (or rather as bad) as any other provider in Thailand. But I have yet to see any other company anywhere in the world, whatever their field of operation may be, to constantly and without exception show more utter incompetence when it comes to solving problems. I had two times problems this Year, first time the line did not connect due to some PPP script errors which I logged and then tried for about 4 month (!!!) to speak to someone who has any idea what I was talking about. And then the line got extremely noisy, and took them almost 4 weeks to fix it. Calling their helplessline 1100 is useless, other numbers they give you come and go, are manned or unmanned, connected or disconnected ....
Recently they are trying to block Torrents, but luckily they show a similar level of competence so getting over that was not too hard.

Spoonman, its not only the money. For me Torrents are first of all a very effective and bandwidth-saving way of exchange, and second, in some ways, a way of life. Give and take. Yin and Yang. And it ain't rocket-science either. Another issue: Once you have reached the seed status (if all is well set up this is usually after uploading about 110%, your partners should have the file. With ftp or other means, they just start downloading. So, with Torrents the results arrive earlier at the destination, and the coding and debugging process can start earlier ....

Downloading unlicensed free software from torrents seems like a novel idea, why not just grab it from either the developers website or from one of the various freeware/shareware sites.
This would eliminate any torrenting issues.
It is definitely not a novel idea, but widely used in the world of development.
Why: Torrents are the optimal solution to reduce the bandwidth for the uploader.
Please don't suggest "solutions" like Megashare, which only work well and reasonably fast on paid accounts, and in all likeliness are used for illegal purposes in a much higher percentage than Torrents.

Having the same problem as everybody else here, since the forum "upgrade"' Tried deleting cookies etc, but no long term effect. As I will definitely NOT allow 3rd Party cookies in any case (I mind my own business and suggest that marketing gurus and data miners do the same, please) I now resign and will read TV more often in guest mode. Seems I am one of many, as most of the time the number of guests is 10 or more times higher than the number of registered users. Som nam na.

Technically speaking, I understand that the extension of stay based on supporting wife in Thailand expires upon the Death of the wife. Now, how is this handled in terms of timing? Is this the same as with termination of a job, i.e. expires immediately on the day of death?

Stand corrected. I missed the fact that your Visa is Multi-OA, so please follow LiteBeer's comment!
-
You don't need a re-entry permit on a Multiple Entry Visa. And, as you have to leave every 90 days, there is no need to report the 90 days too, as the clock is reset when leaving the Country.
The only period you might want to invest in a Re-Entry Permit is during the last validity period, where you still can stay in Thailand, but the Visa itself is invalid.
Say, your M- Visa is valid until August 30, 2011. You take a trip abroad and return on August 29th. You now get a permission to stay until November 27th or thereabouts (too lazy to count the days now ...) During this time, in case you plan to travel abroad, you would need a reentry permit, to be granted to stay until that day upon return.

I am in the same boat as the OP, refusing the humiliation given to both my wife and me by the arrogant and nosey Immigation offers for 4 Years in a row, plus having to cope with new regulations all the time, and watching them as they making them up as we speak, and demanding bribes from the lawyer who was in the past accompanying us, I said this spring 'Enough is Enough!" As I have to travel more often this and the coming Year, I went to KL for a 1 Year Multiple O Visa. I had several 1 Year extensions at the Immigration stamped in my passport, which is valid another four Years, and about 6 pages left.
No problems.
I really wonder what made them turn down this application.

Deluge Full Stream Encryption does not work better for me than in Microtorrent.

What are you trying to download Valentine? (I may have it)
That may well be a good option, file swapping from hard drive to hard drive, I'm sure there are people who have the full series of The Sopranos who would let another person download it direct in exchange for The full series of The Wire for example.
I have both already, it's just an example.
It would be nice to have a group of like minded people who shared their already downloaded files direct, disc to disc, meet up with laptops and external hard drives and share and swap away.
In case this idea evolves into something, count me in please!

The "smelly onion" thingy is your friend, when it comes to overcome the inefficiency and blatant ignorance of the law by your ISP.
Remember, and have a look at the Thai Visa rules: It is forbidden to discuss Proxies and the like as a means to bypass legal blockages. These blockages must be confirmed by a court in Thailand. Lots of pages, including wikileaks, seem to be blocked, but only by either the ISPs own illegal decisions, or most likely by their incompetence.
So far, neither vuze.com nor wikileaks.com are known to be blocked by a court decision, so I reckon using Tor or other means to bypass glitches of the internet or illegal censorship by local ISPs are perfectly ok.

And I always thought that registration to VAT is mandatory for a company that sponsors Work Permits? So, this is only an Immigration rule for getting an extension of stay?

Did some testing now here in the last hour, on a TOT line that is heavily throttled.
Without measure, I get 10-20 dl speed.
Changing the port to 21 did not improve anything.
Setting the encryption to enforced and refusing unencrypted incoming connections did not improve anything.
What is working for me now, is using TOR for all Torrent Traffic. I am getting 200-300 speeds now on a 4 MB TOT line.
Tested with one torrent only (private tracker, 10 seeds, 2 leechers)
If you are actually using Tor for your torrent traffic rather than just the tracker connections then please stop as it uses all the bandwidth of their servers up, which they don't appreciate.
I know of the issue, so not using this apart from some testing a few days ago. But the fact that it works will bring me closer to a solution, just have to do some more testing and research.

Now if Blackberry would comply with a request to open the logs for Thai prosecutors it would mean the end of Blackberry services worldwide for serious business.
Guess it won't happen!

"(And my money is still on the ISP's self-censoring" - then why would MCOT say it was ordered by some minister in view of the "emergency situation"?
We still have nothing first-hand but a quote from AFP citing a spokesperson.
-
Looks like whoever ordered this ban (And my money is still on the ISP's self-censoring, but I would not hedge other's bets) has now to live with retaliation from the real pro's.
Knock out in round one I'd say.

In Thailand, I've encountered blockages, but far more frequently encounter outages in dealing with different websites. This seems to happen for any number of reasons, but probably mostly due to just crappy connections.
Any number of times, for example, this forum's website isn't accessible, but I don't jump and assume it's "blocked." It's timing out or whatever, but I don't think it's ever blocked.
So there is no misunderstanding; this is not network outages we are reporting.
Trying to reach a site by typing an address and being re-direction to: http://58.97.5.29/www.capothai.org/ is clearly NOT an outage.

@Buchholz: I have yet to see one Internet block done professionally here in Thailand. They want to, but they can't. They s*ck.
