  1. I have found that the stores tend to want to sell you what they have. But if you can find it on line at, say, Invade IT Products, the stores can and will order it for you.

When I was selecting components for my computer over a fairly long period of time, I was perplexed when one shop would recommend motherboard X today and then some time later it would be motherboard Y. After several iterations of this for all components and doing a lot of on line Bangkok IT store research, I figured it out. Since I told them time was not a limiting criteria, they agreed they could get me anything I wanted.

  2. My experience has been the American Embassy will give you a letter asking Immigration to transfer your visa after they issue a new passport for what ever reason. I am guessing your record will be in the Immigration computer and can be found. And, hopefully, you have made copies of all the pages (from, say, 90 day reporting) that you can take with you to show Immigration. It should not be too hard to get all the appropriate stamps, specially here in Chiangmai. You are not the first one to have this happen to, so they will know how to take care of you.

  3. Go to InvadeIT web site, see what they have, and order it from Pantip or Computer City type stores if they do not have it on hand. I have found the stores try to sell you what they already have while InvadeIT seems to be like Amazon and will sell you what is available in Thailand. But the stores are usually happy enough to order it for you.

I went through this process building my new computer a few months ago, doing some thorough research, and found that the H/W I selected could only utilize a maximum of 32GB of RAM. So that is what I got.

  4. I'm getting ready to order an i7 3770K and motherboard from http://www.invadeit.co.th/, but can't vouch for them.

I've ordered all my computer components from them and can vouch for them. I just don't have time or patience to go foot shopping at several different shops to try and find what I want so it is a great convenience for me to use them.

Goodspeed is reliable. The best branch to visit is at Compluter Plaza (the middle of the three at the north west corner of the moat) but they have two in Panthip as well.

I researched for months deciding exactly what I wanted in the way of components and used Invadeit as a resource for both what is available in Thailand and what the specs are for each item. I would have ordered directly from them but ended up using Good Speed Pantip to assemble the N/W. I have had them build two previous computers and was pleased with their work and I was not sure of my own ability to do it myself. I also had them load the OS and do a 3 day burn in. By having them do that, I knew I would not have to deal with any random failures and guarantees with associated shipping problems back and forth to Invadeit. Maybe I was overly cautious?

  5. mate, maybe you need a security chain attached from your pants to your wallet, have to wonder where and how you lost them, hmmmmmmw00t.gif

You are completely right.Just want to know what about the police. Can go to report again the loss of the driver licences without problem?

What's the point of reporting it - you'll never see it again.

The road in front of Phayap is the 2nd Ring Road. But I can not go from your map to my maps

  6. There are shops all around that make up the multi-colored, multi-sized ads and banners you see around town. Computer generated and printed on LARGE ink jet printers. Look for one and, when you see it, just ask the shop owner where he had it made.

  7. As posters pointed out, fuzzy catepillars are literally irritating. Their "fuzz" are tiny barbed needles that with just the lightest touch will penetrate the skin and remain there. The rash and irritation and itch can last for days.

I had close to 100 different yellow ones, if not more, in one tree about 2 years ago. Before that and since then, I have only seen one or two. But seem to get many really fuzzy ones like your picture every year (many being in the 20s).

  8. This should show you where the dam is and give you an idea where the turn off is. The turn off is marked with a sign in English, as was mentioned. I did not mark the road going west to Hwy 107 Mae Taeng and coming back south. But it is the only one on the map. Let me know if you need help with that.

This should give enough info to use Google maps to get a better one.

Going west from the dam, the wat is about 2/3 of the way long that road toward 107, is about 1 km to the north (right as you drive west), and easily seen. It is on a slight berm and has lots of big blue roofs.

  9. Mae Ngat Dam. I would recommend driving up the 1001 Hwy and turning west to the dam. Stop on top and then go around to the restaurants and boat landings. You can take a boat trip out to the far end where there are floating restaurants and floating cabins. Leaving, continue west and before you get to the Mae Rim road, you will see this BIG blue wat (Wat Baan Den) off to the right. Massive wat that they have been building and adding to for years and years. Lots of photo ops. Nice day trip loop.

  10. Greenside is a prince among beggars, serfs, vassels, and other minions. The pictures prepared us so that we will not expect Bed, Bath, and Beyond upscale type bed linens, bath towels and bath accessories, and other furnishings. Our expectations will no longer exceed reality.

  11. . After 3BB's line crew came out to look at my computer I was told what the problem was: the lines serving my neighborhood could not exceed a capacity greater than 10 Mbps!

I once asked a TOT counter lady how much would 10MB and 15MB plans cost to compare them to True's fiber optics cable. She quoted a price. But she volunteered to call the IT office and have them check my TOT line. The answer came back lik Mr. Brad's; the max my TOT ADSL line could pass through where I live was 7MB.

So I would echo Mr. Brad's implied suggestion, get them to check what the line is actually capable of delivering.

  12. Brommers

One explanation I got for the problem in our area (just south of Mae Jo) may apply in others areas, like yours. The pipes in our development are old concrete ones and they have just deteriorated over time and become brittle. So they replace broken sections with new, heavy duty PVC. So far they have been able to do so in about 1/2 day or so as the pipes are all under sidewalks and readily accessible, after a fashion.,

We have had over 10 failures this year alone. They are all unexpected, so if we are at home, we do not know about it. If we are out and about and come home, we find notice posted as we come in the gate. We tell our friends and relatives and we all just watch our tank water usage.

  13. I had a friend who did house painting and other redecorating projects. She told me that wall paper very often attracted mold. So be very careful of what you put it on.

Was this friend here in Thailand? If so where did she get her wallpaper from?

Yes she was working here in Chiang Mai. I don't know where she bought it if she used it at all.

Check around about mold with it. I never really discussed it with her it was just mentioned in passing as she was telling me they often have to remove it because of the mold.

Maybe there is other posters here with greater knowledge on the subject than I. My friend has moved to another city.

Whole houses here in our development are wallpapered (upstairs and downstairs) with no problems. I would guess anyone who has problems might have a water source on the other side, like a shower with tile on a poorly prepared wall and/or cracked grout. Wall are very porous and the water will wick through over time.
