  1. I did a visa run to poipet last friday (24th oct ), there is apost in the general section of thia visa where I described my effort.

but , to summarise.. 1000 baht or $20US  and a photo is all that is required for the visa..you sit in the waiting area then when you walk accross and get to the cambodian immigration, they ask you if you are going straight back to thailand..if you are they expect you to give them 100baht.. have it ready to slip through the window... that is all that you are required to pay.. if you are in pattaya I think there is an easy bus trip that costs 2000baht for everything..trip..food...visa.. leaves at about 730am from the post office and you are back at around 530pm...do a search on google  poi pet visa run  ...

  2. tutsiwarrior...there is a brand which retails for about 160 baht for 750mls.. don t know where it is made...but the russian sounding name is something like rubishka... at the bar where i normally drink a bottle turned up on the shelf... in the interests of science a had a straight shot of it....arrrgh..

I had noticed the connotations of the name...and I think I should have trusted my instincts... it is a shocker...attrocious :o

  3. indo-siam and membrane, the blanket argument america is great does not wash, and theodore was still from the privilaged class, his perspective of democracy would have been different to that of the workers, the people who make and repair things on this planet.

the ability of america to visit death and destruction on unsuspecting peoples, is not in question.

The poor foot soldiers on the ground are not educated or equipped to deal with the animosity toward them by the people of iraq. When one of their leaders, whom they are taught to respect comes out with a statement to the effect, our god is bigger than yours, and we look at the way people from the middle east are portrayed in the movies issuing from hollywood, the chances of american resolving anything in iraq are very slim.

this perception that issues can be resolved by heroic action are just like rambo...FICTION!!! you might be able to paper over the cracks short term, but in the long run the facade will surely be exposed..communication and understanding are the only things that will bring about respect for others...pursuit of greedy agendas, either for political or monetary gain will just keep the resentment simmering until the next explosion of hate.

ok  back to my bottle of beer..it understands me... :o

  4. no worries ozzie, beer is on my mind.

I am in the bkk.. though the outer fringe... lam luk ka ways

I will stick with the wonderful woman I have now.. but there are many to admire from a distance...

heading into the expensive beer area of sukhumvit this morning... meet a mate.. help him find an apartment  and guide him on a trip to panthip....

and membrane... this is one of the many areas for the exchange of ideas and emotional opinions...

  5. democracy is not what it says on the promotional pamphlets, you have party policies, and subtle ( or not so subtle ) control of the mainstream media. Rarely do I see an elected representative actually representing their people, telling them what they want through propaganda is not educating them to rationalise their needs and/or desires. What is really required to have a reasonable existance? Our leaders whom we have been discussing have all achieved their status by relying on immoral strategies, lies and outright corruption. The corruption and nepotism which is quite obvious in asian countries is just as prevelant in the western world,

but alot of money is spent on convincing us otherwise. The internet may well be the light at the end of the tunnel, as I am not sure that many of those entrenched in their manipulative ways, understand this new medium and its wide reaching power. The ability to communicate with people in many corners of the planet is opening up a very welcome exchange of ideas and thoughts. Its very reason for existance, was so there was no way to destroy the communications. Hopefully wireless networking will accelerate its ability to reach more and more people on the planet.

cor...hows that for a load of dribble..I think I need a beer or something similar.... :o

  6. Tizme your post was quite good reading. I have cut and pasted it to a text file and emailed it off to people who I think would  appreciate it....

axel.. you missed out the aussies in your joke, they would have removed the insect, drank the coffee, called in sick and gone fishing with the insect as bait..

ah I do actually miss having Paul keating and Gareth Evans in charge

  7. what words are there in thai that mean orgasm.

none of the dictionarys I have seen have it.

Is there different ones for male and female?

a friend of mine said it is nam tak whick apparently means literally

water explode .. but in testing this phrase most of the girls seem to find it embarrasing. can anybody expand my knowledge of this section of thai language, and maybe stop me from making a serious gaffe. :o

  8. I am glad to have triggered an interesting read and also some good links about bread...

but I still believe that most bread consumed is of the soft white variety ( and has the crust removed) made from highly processed flours and is not in the least helpful to the digestive process..

I am a fan of wholegrain bread, I love a good meat and salad sandwich/roll.

  9. have a look at this page also. http://www.pcauthority.com.au/Index.a....D=13399

and as phazy reckons  it is worth going with a new modem..as your    machine is a desktop think about getting an external.. and a serial one will save you a usb port... but both are cheap

and your operating system is definately not recommended

it is probably the go for you to get XP installed on your machine.. unless the processor is sub 1Ghz and you have less than 256meg of ram

  10. not being an expert or anything... this is just an idea

what about getting an account with a bank which has branches everywhere... ie. australia and thailand

the one that comes to mind is the HSBC I know they have branches in australia and in thailand...though I wouldn t suggest you open your account at the thai branch... I went to see them and found them to be a bit sad.... maybe fly to singapore and do it there......my dad worked around this area for 30 years..based in singapore..and he swears by the HSBC... he now lives on the gold coast and they have a local branch there

  11. my vote for my favourite sandwich in bangkok is the club sandwich from woodstock in nana plaza, I enjoy getting a fix of wholemeal bread.. most of the bread I have tasted in thailand seems to have sugar added and is white..

If you get your sandwich shop up and running  goreilly, post the address..

and most bread is not a very healthy thing for the body...if you want to make glue for your kids...you mix flour and water :o

  12. ah,, job done..

passed through thai immigration.. make sure you have your departure card filled out...( though I had no overstay ).

then filled out the visa application at the cambodian waiting area,

had my photo stapled to the form, passed the form, passport and 1000baht through the window on the left and ten minutes later had the full page cambodian visa sticker in my passport, walked across to the to the cambodian entry point ( harassed by many small children asking for one baht and men offering all sorts of visa stuff ). at the entry point got a entry/departure card from a couple of uniforms sitting in the corner, filled both out then, went to the window, gave my passport, got the quick question asking if I was going straight back to thailand, paid him 100baht, got my passport back, walked straight acroos the road to the cambodian exit point, handed over my passport with the completed departure form in it, got stamped out no problems...

walked back to the thai entry point( more , please sir, one baht ), had to wait in line to get an entry/departure card from the window, filled that out, gave passport and card thru window, waited a couple of minutes and was on my way.....

all up it took about 40 minutes, but there was no tour groups..

for where I was stayiing in cambodia I just wrote poi pet, and for where I was staying in thailand I just wrote bangkok..

    ok no worries

    stu
