  1. Hi-tech traffic cameras slash Saudi traffic deaths

capt.photo_1285613081899-1-0.jpg?x=213&y=142&xc=1&yc=1&wc=410&hc=273&q=85&sig=7AvCKs9TEVTQxfbmzcIQBg--AFP/File – A general view of King Fahd street in downtown Riyadh with normal traffic. A new system of automatic … – Mon Sep 27, 2:45 pm ETRIYADH (AFP) – A new system of automatic speed-detection cameras in Riyadh has considerably slashed traffic deaths in the four months it has been in place, the city police traffic chief said Monday.

The "Saher," or "Watchful," programme has brought traffic accident deaths down to 79 from 118 for the same period last year, police general Abdul Rahman bin Abdullah said.

It has also helped cut accidents by 21 percent, to 40,900 from 51,959, he said, according to a report on the official SPA news agency.

The system of hundreds of cameras monitoring speeders on busy thoroughfares and catching drivers ignoring red lights at busy intersections has taken ticketing out of the hands of police on the streets.

Before, police had been loathe to stop drivers violating rules, out of fear that they might turn out to be of high ranked or Royal status.

  2. Rayong proper has all the amenities that you will find neccessary for a blissfull existence.

Tesco, Big C, Makro, HomePro, hospitals, etc. If you decide to live outside, the immediate options are fewer but, still acceptable.

Lots of interesting folk here, and some a**holes. You'll just have to make up your own mind.

    Best regards,

  3. Does anyone have a 'laissez-passer' for the innumerable traffic stops that we get on the highway ? If so, how did you get it ?

I'm not a speedster so that is not a problem but, this business of being in the fast lane too long is really beginning to irritate me. If you pass a line of trucks that are going 50kph you get pulled over; or, if the spaces between vehicles are soooo tight that it is unsafe to slip between them, you get pulled over. I know that Thais don't seem to care and just pull in anyway but, I can't do it.

    So, I'm looking for a 'Laissez-Passer'. I know they're out there.

  4. Sorry about the delay in replying; been on vacation and don't have access all the time.

The dues are p/m and can be paid all at once or monthly. They have NEVER mentioned what they plan to do w/ the increase, they just want it.

There are MANY things to be done but why weren't some of these things done with the original amount of 15 Bht per Talang Wa.

247 houses with an average of 1500 Bht p/m adds up to a lot of money. Where did it go ?

  5. I'm curious about the amount that residents pay for maintenance/association fees in villages of Rayong province.

This past Christmas we were told that there would be a 66% increase in the dues.

Needless to say, many balked at that news, and at this time the increase has been rescinded.

However, it does not mean that it is off the table for next year.

Just to give you an idea, from 15 Bht p/ Talang wa to 25 Bht p/ Talang wa.

IF there were improvements that justified an increase in the dues, then I think that WE should have been told before-hand.

I never have believed the story of, "...just give us the money, and we'll let you know what we spent it for."

    Any thoughts ?

  6. can anyone answer the question?

Pattaya auction house located on same road as water bill payment office coming from sukhumvit on right hand side of road over railway about 1 km .long before you get to crossroads where if you turn left takes you to crocodile park.sale on sundays sarts 11 am

And where would that be ?

  7. I've found that Thai's are unable to understand the concept of causing inconvenience to others. Whenever it happens (often) all you get is a blank stare of incomprehension.

IMHO that one hits the nail on the head ! :)

  8. In case anyone else needs to know, here it is:

...beyond the junction of Highway 344 with Highway 3, about 3 Km. you will see on your right an EGAT building; turn into that street and follow it until you get to the Dept. of Lands( maybe 200 M ). I hope that these directions will help those that need them.

    Regards,

  9. As you can see these are rated as # 99 and #100. Personally, I think that they should be rated #1 and #2.

    99. Do not show frustration. Your only mission is to serve. Be patient. It is not easy.

    100. Guests, like servers, come in all packages. Show a “good table” your appreciation with a free glass of port, a plate of biscotti or something else management approves.

    regards,

  10. I will be moving to Baan Kram soon and would like to know some information from those who presently have an ISP in the area.

    Who do you use ?

    How reliable is it ?

What is the price p/m and are there any set-up fees ?

Any other bits of information would be appreciated.

    Regards,

  11. I don't have a specific answer but here's a place to start asking?

Rayong offices of the Minister of the Interior

    phone number 0 3864 0700

The wife could give them a call and start asking for help on where is the district offices in Klaeng

Also here is an email address but who knows if they read and answer this

    [email protected]

Just chatting it up with the neighbors should reveal where the local land office is located. Most likely near the other government facilities in Klaeng

    Thanks for your reply :)

Apparently, the office has just moved (?) and there is no map available online.

However, they did say that it is on the road to Chantaburi, past the hospital, and close to EGAT.

Klaeng not being too large, it should be reasonably easy to find from those directions.

    Thanks again !

  12. A meeting was recently held at Pattaya City Hall to discuss the ever increasing

problems of stray dogs. The meeting was chaired by Pattaya Deputy Mayor, Khun Ronnakit Ekkasing, with attendees from the Public Health Authority, Local Officials and representatives from local animal shelters and charities.

The problems have become worse as the facilities to hold stray dogs have become vastly overcrowded, with some dogs being able to simply walk away from their detention, only to cause major problems to local residents. This is where the majority of complaints are originating.

Pattaya City Hall officials have been to visit the various areas around the shelters, and the general opinion of local residents, is that the present locations are not working and other accommodation must be found to house the shelters. However, those in charge of the shelters, believe that with a small budget from the Town Hall, fencing and security measures could be put in place which will enable them to keep all stray dogs off the streets. They explained, that due to the present economic situation, they have seen a 70% drop in monetary support from local residents. Without help from City Hall, they explain that they will not be able to continue for much longer.

Further meetings will take place in the near future to try and find a solution to the ever increasing problem.

5555555555555 :) How many years have they been 'looking' at this problem ? ROFLMAO

  13. Predictable post Bush responses.

Ignoring the last paragraph's that explain their logic.

There will always be those who just hate USA, based on their personal biases.

    Congratulations Mr. President.

I for one HAVE felt safer...

even safer from verbal assault from our so called allies citizens,

since Obama began his long overdue retread of the USA's global image.

Maybe it is a bit early, but he still has caused a sea change in the perceptions

of a huge segment of the world towards America, and I never expected all to agree.

Face it, Bush was a terrible act to follow and it is amazing how much progress has

been made to erase his bilious legacy. Even in the worst of times and

with the least amount of assets to make use of.

    :):D I don't know which.
