There should be a medal for that achievement - not easy to do.....
I dont know ...
I went looking for it here in Phuket and only managed to catch some minor stuff once or twice - some canoeing , some volleyball.
I think the Olympics , that once you couldnt miss and hurried home to catch whole events because highlights was something you could watch over and over on any Free To Air TV news , is now something different , something not for all the citizens of the world , something elitist and 'special'.
I mean , why cant news bulletins show winning post video ?
Its not really broadcast widely and freely enough to be considered the property of all the worlds sports lovers any more , is it ?

In my book the whole concept was a joke.
Added to that, I would love to know the breakdown of genuine tourists vs folk with serious ties to Thailand (married etc) returning via Sandbox.
I think that they should have kept it to ASQ perhaps 7 to 10 days quarantine for fully vaxed folk.
Cut out all the rubbish.
BTW imo Phuket never got close to 70%.
Smoke and mirrors. Esp with population numbers.
"I would love to know the breakdown of genuine tourists vs folk with serious ties to Thailand (married etc) returning via Sandbox."
What does it matter ?
Why does this concern you ?
What negative are you looking for ?
Much of the Sandbox arrivals in my villiage are the latter , and were made to pay for a Hotel for 2 weeks like any 'normal' tourist.
Their health Status had to be way better than any locals, just to be here.
Now they are spending up , renting a villa or condo for the next 6 months/ year or the rest of their Retirement. Often they have leased a car or rented scooters , got a happy Thai lady in tow , and sometimes some Thai kids that they will clothe and educate and feed. Unlike a 'real' tourist , they are buying appliances , furniture , health care and a myriad of products/services that result in expenditures much larger and penetrating to the local economy than tourism.
And that was the intention !
To get work and income happening now .
It seems a bit 'dog in the manger' to me that people sitting on their bums in the West and receiving fat allowances under Job Seeker ( $750 a week !) or 'Hardship' cheques for doing nothing , think that people with NO welfare or incomes at all , should quietly accept their lot and wait and wait...
Darn selfish .
I know my observations will annoy many sad sack 'criticize everything ' pundits on here , but this is a good program and it is working.
A figure of 0.2 % of tourists have tested positive to Covid and hospitalised/removed from interaction ( whether really sick or not ) , and over 13,000 arrivals are now spending money .
Tourist are facebooking positively and reporting the process getting easier , and better organised. Certainly those Sandboxers Ive met with were enjoying the natural beauty and sense of space , but , admittedly , none were party animals either.
You can now ride up and down the West Coast and see small Thai restaurants , Coffee Clubs , and Family Marts re-opening , bums on deckchairs , beach massage tents manned again ( so old ladies making some money ) , and a general big tidy up happening at last.
It has to start somewhere .
If you like Thailand and the Thai , I think you should be happy for them...

And let's not forget it is early days in the experiment - the hope is if it goes well then they can increase visitor numbers. And yes, lots and lots of Thais stand to benefit from it if it works.
Not really sure what your point is to be honest.I agree.
I actually know Thai here in Phuket that have worked and received income for the first time in over a year.
Ive seen a dozen Mom and Dad Thai eateries re-open , and I know of 2 Scooter rental shops going well again and some drivers back on the road.
Much is made of 2 week tourists , but Sandbox fast tracked numerous ex-expats and 'want to be retirees' , and they are in my villiage 'loved-up' and spending up all that money that wealthy Western governments handed out to them , while Thais , often with the same trade/skill set have been basically getting nothing. working class
People commenting negatively about Sandbox from O/S seem forget that. Theres no fat "Job-seeker" payments or Relief Checks for Thais - theres nothing.
And it seems some people dont want want them to have work even now.
Those 'white-anting' and rubbishing the whole program may well be damaging many a Thais chances of their first income in ages - and I thought most of us here liked Thailand and the Thai.
They truly need work and they really need it now.
An article trying a negative slant did admit yesterday ... "The Phuket Sandbox ... infection total is 148, well over the self-imposed threshold of 90 per week that would trigger a re-evaluation of the programme. But with only 30 of those cases being from international Sandbox travellers out of 12,395 total arrivals, the infection rate for international travellers is 0.2% "
So , of the infection numbers , Thai people accounted for 118 , tourists 30. And the article goes goes on to admit all the tourists are accounted for and contained .
So there are NO Sandbox tourists wandering the streets spreading Covid. They are interviewed , and monitored daily , had to be fully vaxed and tested again to fly , and tested 3 times on arrival. Ive met them . Bought 2 some lunch. Talked to others. The magic figure of " 90" should never have included Thais because the Sandbox program was never intended to promote Thai visitation . They could come any time , and they can still come tomorrow !
In my view , the statistics indicate a success.
12,000+ spenders are better than none.
And the Government has as much admitted that the current outbreak here has been delivered by Thais , with its announcement Phuket is to close to Thais from August 3.
There is no point arguing about who should have got the vax first. Everybody should have the vax first , and the if they didnt get it then they should have access to it now.
But somebody thought he was smarter than the virus.
However I would add that the Sandbox program was months in the planning and implementing and well predated the Delta variant and the current Bangkok outbreak.

Every part of the story sounds true - apart from your interpretation of skin vcolor. Basically she can see they re half Thai and white skin in Thailand is a much sort after attribute, but the "lady" knew full well you were ythe dad and thought she's charge farang rate. I've had the opposite where a friends wife with UK passport was not admitted to a club because they thought she was a bar girl - i.e. dark, Issan skin.
thai interpretation of skin colour is not part of a a racist conspiracy. However she would have made some more money.
Good Lord.
Are you sober ?
Im Australian and not even blood related to either kid.
Concentrate , ONE is half French , ONE is half American.
They are told they will pay extra because they LOOK non Thai , and theres some extremely well ( English ) spoken 'dreamers' claiming Thai heritage here ( or they are plants ) saying that Thais are not racist ( so as to elicit more responses ?)
I took them because they are nice kids

If you really trust investing your hard earned money into a country that's prone to military coups and daily government flip-flops which are completely void common sense and logic, then have at it!!!
There are people arriving here in Phuket daily who have dropped a Million US dollars on a 'dream' villa who are not allowed self isolate in that ( their ) property for 14 days and must stay in a hotel every night.
Tell me again why this new deal could be a good deal is a good deal and why it wont change on the whims of some official in a year or two...

This is due to your nationality, not your skin colour.
Total Rubbish.
My Grand daughter is half French/Thai and very white.
I take her and her best friend , half American/ Thai to a waterpark. We are herded into a line , and these11 year old kids keep looking up worriedly at the signs above the ticket windows and then shyly suggest we change lines .
We change , and a matriach comes out and asks why we changed lines.
They answer in Thai , looking worried , "We are Thai and we shouldnt have to stay in this line and pay 1500 baht when it should cost 900 for us. It says that on the sign."
The lady lowers her voice and gives me a sidelong glance..."Is that your Pappa , and you are falang pretending to be Thai huh ? NOT tell lies now !"
The girls have worried expressions and my girl falls silent , but her half American friend gets assertive and says , "We have our cards , you want to look at them because we have beautiful WHITE skin? You are black , why you talk too much to us ? "
The lady looks a bit worried , her whole demeanour shrinks ...she bows slightly to me , then leaves.
The girls look triumphant and mine gives a quiet low 5 to Miss America , and together they move forward , get their passes , and save me 1200 baht .
Being well educated and 'supap' young Thai ladies they dont want to talk about what happened , dismiss it , but my grand daughter says later , "She look at us , see the white skin and she say , "Oh falang , you muss pay extra !"
Judged by their skin colour , then one uses skin colour against the self appointed 'colour' Judge.
Classic.
But there's no racism in Thailand , Mr Neeranam .

We use South East Asian Sea bass.
Its readily available cheap off local fishermen here in Phuket.
It is an ugly fish and looks like Barramundi .
It holds together well and has white flesh.

Just in case some Thai 'advisor' is reading this and is allowed to convey the message to any Thai power broker that is capable of listening.
This is what a holidaying tourist wants !
1. VISA ON ARRIVAL ! ( Of course with proof of being vaccinated )
2. No quarantine for tourists who have been issued with a FULL dose of the vax and can prove it.
3. Every Local in this special and "Oh so safe zone" of Phuket to be vaccinated the same as the Tourist has to !
(Not 70% , but ALL !)
EVERYONE in Phuket vaxed , as Tourists may have to deal with anyone , and they should be able EXPECT the same levels of care taken as they have had to take !
4. A sworn promise to not change the rules when the head official thinks it his turn to add yet another silly impost ...
5. Their normal travel Insurance acceptable and the gov clear that it us clear.

... Surely its the cleaning ladys' turn to make up a new ruling affecting all the falang tomorrow ?

Yes , these are Palm Oil palms.
Like animal embryos the 'baby' plants of various species of palms look surprisingly similar whilst young , and will thrive in a warm damp and shady spot till they get up a bit. Thereafter these need sun , and require an 8 metre spacing to do well.
Keep pulling them , or run them over with a mower and they will not be a problem.

Save up for a Covid test in Samui !
I enquired today and it costs 5500 at International Hospital !
And 3250 at the public hospital at Na Thon.
Not a bad margin on a test that I heard costs 100 baht...

I would say No you will be forced to go as it is all about the money being distributed.
That is all part of this scheme Koh Samui has been aggressively vaccinating and are 50% fully vaccinated already claiming to reach herd immunity and ready by July 1. So, they want a piece of the tourist dollar pie.
No they wont make you go there. BUT , you will have to book and pay 7 nights in advance at a Samui hotel , regardless of whether you have already done that in Phuket , or you own a condo or luxury villa in either destination. Because the reason you can come is to save Thai tourism and we really dont give a damn if you have a good holiday or not.

Guess who was responsible for allowing 3 big party venues to open on Phuket over a long weekend ( including Cafe del <deleted> ) and unleashing a new wave of Covid upon Phuket ?
Guess who is not doing that again ?

Well l'm not complaining. Took my Thai lady to our local Amhpur yesterday for her vaccine shot. From our small village there was only her and our phu yai ban.
She was number 330 in queue and when finished she went up chain of command complaining that her farang boyfriend had missed out. Eventually, (probably got sick of her) she rang me to say come on down.
Queue no 548 and watching the people go through the various stages, all in blocks of 10, l was very very impressed.
They vaccinated about 600 thais and one grateful farang and all finished by mid afternoon.
That was Astrazenica and they used up most of their allocation. Today it's on again but with Sinovac.
Well done Thai GIrlfriend !
Did they give you any sort of Certification ?

When I went to the hospital on Sunday to register, there was only myself and my wife at the counter. They were more people walking about on the street outside so in my experience, certainly no need to avoid private hospitals.
When I went to a private hospital I always use , they said , "We are sorry. There isnt enough vaccine supply yet. Try next month."
I went to a private hospital , I dint say you should not.
I do , however , try to minimise my visits.

"While the prime minister had said, earlier today, that a contract had been signed for the purchase of 25 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said that the Ministry of Public Health is “expected to sign term sheets” for the procurement of 20 million doses of Pfizer and just five million doses of Johnson & Johnson vaccines later this week."
When cops want to uncover big lies , they put 2 suspects in 2 different rooms , ask the same questions and uncover anomlies in the individuals stories which they use as indicators that somebody , or BOTH , are lying.
So how many dose again ?

Have you read the whole thread ?
One place issuing vax is not "Mass Vaccination".
As I said -
"Sure , a few foreign plebs with work permits/pink books will get a vax , and they will say , "Well WE got one " , and that will be enough to have us all scrambling back to our laptops and hospitals ( that we really should be avoiding ) in the mistaken belief that we are next."
So where did you join a mass of farang getting vaxed yesterday ?
Oh , and how did YOUR registration go btw ?

To anyone feeling angry and/or frustrated with the process for getting a vaccine jab, might I suggest the following: Change your attitude towards the vaccine(s).
This morning I was very much 'pro-jab', however having tried and failed to secure an appointment, I decided to become 'anti-vac': I am now totally calm and blissfully content, as I know that there isn't a cat's chance in hell of me receiving a jab anytime soon.
Read this!
Understand it !
There were NO mass vax's today , despite all the hoo haa !
Predictably , even puting your name down for a vax was a failure ..
Accept it and go back to laying on "their" beach , playing sport with other expats , relaxing and doing what you enjoy...
Im not anti-vac , but its futile and sad to think of yourself as deluded enough to believe they have any interest at all in your well being , and , after all , the sooner you contract it , the sooner $100k US in Insurance flows into Thailand ...
Vax enough for us MAY be here in October .
Stop being sucked in to their games ...

Phuket to Koh Samui
in COVID-19 Coronavirus
Posted
I was told by the minibus drivers yesterday that those interested in visiting Samui and returning to Phuket again , its now again possible- as long as you are a resident of Phuket , have had 1 x AZ vax or 2 x Sinovac , and have a recent clean test ( possible at Pang Nga Hospital on the return leg ) .
