  1. You think ? i have a number of Thai friends between 38 and and 55 that are working full time, men and women, would like to change there work place, some are highly skilled, it would appear that the magic age here is 35, if your over that forget it, just stay at the present work place, or do something on your own, eg: Market stall, shop. noodle seller...

It always surprises me, why Thais see cooking instant noodles or meatballs on a stick, while standing on the roadside all day, inhaling smoke and excaust fumes, a viable alternative to a regular, salaried job.

There may be money in selling ready-made food, but I would never ever think of selling spaghetti or hot dogs, or whatever for hours on the roadside. tongue.png

  2. I just wonder; who will build the fancy shopping malls and condo buildings in the future? And who will catch the fish in Thailand's waters - the Thais themselves? tongue.png

I don't think so; they rather pick the easy jobs like motorbike boy or Mama noodle-soup seller. laugh.png

Just another sign of xenophobic paranoia... When Thais have political or economical problems, first thing they do is kick out the foreigners. bah.gif

Thailand needs foreign workers, so why don't the authorities streamline the process to make it easier to get legit?

  3. I'm looking for a removal truck to transport a large fridge, a few suitcases and boxes from the Onnut area down a few sois to my new place. Does anyone have a phone number or email address for a truck and two guys to hire? I was thinking around 1,000 baht for one hour, loading the fridge and stuff, driving, and unloading.

  4. I don't know about that, but the city with the most 'hansum man' is Pattaya... laugh.png

No seriously, I would agree with others that for my taste it is mostly the Esarn triangle Buriram-Surin-Korat and, additionally, some places in the South. You see where my taste is - more towards darker shades and exotic looks. The funny thing is, though, that my current girlfriend is Chinese-Thai, plus she likes to use whitening cream... rolleyes.gif

(I hope to get her off that stuff in the future - any ideas how?)

  5. Too late! Just as I went home, walking across the market near my condo building, I heard, a chicken seller say: 'Hong nam.', perhaps meaning me. (I was wearing a business shirt and neat long pants, a bit like a foreign teacher.) Then I went past a tuk-tuk and the driver said: 'Falang go away', after a Western couple had just past. I went on to the internet cafe, which was almost empty, except for a dark-skinned Thai man in his early twenties, who mumbled : 'Mai khon, si dam...' when I entered. (I have a slight tan.) All this within 5 minutes from people who don't know me and have never seen me! - I guess those people have big problems (corrupt government, no education, bad food, etc.), so all they can do is drink, gamble and complain about foreigners...

  6. If you saw a confused Westerner walking through a dark Pattaya last Saturday night - it was me. sad.png

So, how about this weekend - are the bars open? And what is it with all the construction sites on Walking Street? Does 'New Living Dolls' still exist?

  7. Thanks guys. Sorry, i should have been more precise. In case of documentation for a work permit; how would it work:

    A) lose one-year visa, but have three-month extension of visa for work permit issuance, or

    B. keep one-year visa, and continue border runs every three months, or

    C) get an "automatic" extension of visa and work permit for one year, based on my one-year multiple visa?

  8. As poster makes no mention of being in Thailand it does not appear to be a case of not being allowed to visit. I suspect leaving Manila would be much more difficult than entry into Thailand.

Then again, the poster mentioned 'Suvarnabhum Airport'. Unless the airport in Manila is named in the same way as Bangkok's, I'd presume he wrote about arrival in Thailand.

  9. It all depends how she (and her family) lives her religion.

I am not a Muslim but I am from Turkey and the heavy majority here are Muslims (maybe about 90 per cent) so I know quite a bit about this religion smile.png

By the way, I know of many non-Muslim foreigners who have married Muslim girls here and the majority have NOT converted to Islam. But then again, overall, Muslims here are more liberal than Muslims in Thailand.

    Jem

Yeah, and she is some kind of scammer, too. First she was 23, from Rayong (on chat she said: I'm in Rayong now); now she has a different profile name on the dating site (one of many), is suddenly 24, and from Ranong. And she told the guy in the U.S. that I'm an African, despite the fact that she met a Caucasian!

  10. I met the girl only once. She didn't like me, because of my slight sun tan. (Her face was full of pimples, at age 24). I asked her online why she had lied to me many times. Since then I'm receiving death threats from a guy in the US. Be warned, be careful with dating someone from those dating websites. The girl is just weird and strange, maybe because she is Muslim. I had a fairly positive opinion of Muslims until now, but not anymore.

  11. Just think of all the lovely things you have to look forward to:

    1) Being part of the most repressive religion there has every been.

    2) No more pork chops.

    3) Having to celebrate Ramadam-a-ding-dong.

    4) If she thinks you have been cheating on her, it's off with your head, Ken Bigley-style.

Nah, just kidding. Best of luck to both of you.

Cheers, sausageandmash (first I wanted to write S&M, but thought better of it jap.gif ) for the good wishes. I'm giving #2 a try (fridge still full with pork products), while trying to avoid #4..

Numbers 1 and 3 are not on the agenda yet, cause way to early.

  12. According to the OP´s profile, he is already more than 100 years old.

As you will have to try everything at least once in your life, one of the few thing he now has left to try, is to become a muslim. So just go for it OP!

Don't believe everyting on the internet!!

  13. TV is the last place on earth I would post 'relationship' or 'advice' type questions lol

Fair enough, but I live in Thailand, and I needed specific advice/recommendations as for Westerners dating Thai Muslimas. I could easily have gotten, say, advice from compatriates in my home country dating Caucasian Muslimas, whose families came from the opposite part of the Muslim world, but it probably wouldn't have had much significance for my situation in the Big Mango.

  14. An entire thread an nobody mentioned polygamy?

That would be an advantage, of course. Just read on Yahoo that Bin Laden fathered 4 children while on the run and hiding in Pakistan. No wonder with 4 or 5 wives. (I read 5 somewhere, so either he broke the rules, or drove one into suicide, who knows..)

  15. Yes a fellow teacher had the clip for a muslim girl. ^ weeks of pain, only to have her dump him. His was on and off the muslim wagon himself after there lol

I don't wanna hijack my own thread, but did he do it in Thailand? And is he okay with the clip now, that the pain has stopped. I mean, do the girls like the looks, and does he consider the lower propensity of contracting HIV as an advantage?

  16. I would be careful with doing the "runner"... she might go back to her family crying and telling them you stole her virginity etc etc... and you might end up finding a knive between your legs and being very kindly asked to convert to Islam and get married immediately... or otherwise be allowed to keep the knive as present but stuck between your rips...

Swiss, I think I wrote, that it is not my intention to take her virginity. The 'runner'/walkout applied only if, after a view dates, I realised that it is not for me.

  17. Don't.......Seriously!

    ...

So...you have been warned. Good luck.

Great advice, Jim. Still, it's right at the beginning. So, I guess I will just date her a few times and see how it turns out. Can always do the 'runner'; no harm for the girl, as no hanky-panky, right?

  18. Thai Muslim used to be unique, no hijab, eat pork and socialize with all religions.

Yeah and the no sex part doesn't necessarily apply either..

If you get to the possible point of marriage then a clip in your nether regions is necessary for you if you're not already and she and her family is devout, that might effect your thinking on that aspect..

Wow, some quick and very useful replies. I dated some Buddhist Thai girls before, who had to lie to their parents too, so no difference. As for the sex, she ruled it out, which is okay with me. Then again, I wouldn't mind if she changed her mind. (Too early to say.)

As for the 'clip', it's okay with me. I also mentioned to her that I can do it, and soon. (I meant it, too.)

And the food; I read on a 'halal' website that KFC is halal and therefore okay for Muslims. (Then again, I saw a TV report recently about 'Halal' food in Malaysia, and they seemed to be very strict regarding food, restaurants, etc.)

  19. I'm about to date a Muslim girl. violin.gif

I would like this to go towards a serious relationship. I understand that there will be no sex before marriage (which I respect). Anyone else who ever dated a Muslima in Thailand or elsewhere? (She lives in Bangkok, and seems to adjust to the "mainstream", i.e. she doesn't wear a head scarf.)

What can I expect from 'dating' her for an extended period of time? Kiss ---> yes/no? Petting? Holiday together? (Remark: this would probably all be without her parents knowing, if any.) I've been interested, and know one or two things about Islam, but not much about 'dating'.

Anyone who dated/married a Thai Muslima??
