  1.
Thanks again for the additional information.

Since their Global Shipping merges with the Thai Postal System, that sounds too risky to me.  Twice in the past everything tracked good on the US side but vanished when it reached Thailand (TiT).  I think I'll request FedEx or UPS - more expensive but it is door-to-door under their control with no Thai Postal involvement.

About your warning on the dealers on Amazon, the only comments I can find are on the product itself, no reference to any vendor other than Amazon.  Does Amazon ship directly from their own stock on some items (Running Shoes?) or only through 3rd party vendors?

  2. Has anyone had recent experience with receiving goods from Amazon in Thailand?

In the past I've had problems receiving shipments from the US (not Amazon) and don't want to risk the same again.

I've had two shipments that never arrived and another that incurred high Customs duties.

In this case, I'm considering running shoes in a large size that's s very difficult to find in Thailand.

Thanks much in advance for any comments.

"Talk about putting one's $ where the mouth is,   how about Larry Flint offering ten million for  impeachable dirt on 'The Donald' "

Clear thinking fair minded people know that Flynt's new witch hunt will prove as fruitless as his previous attempts.

We already knew he's paralyzed from the waist down - now it's apparent that he's also deceased from the neck up.

Flynt has made other high profile offers:

$1 million for information on the real assassin of President Kennedy ~ Nothing!

When Bill Clinton was facing impeachment, Flynt offered $1 million for evidence of sex scandals involving Republican or conservative politicians ~ Nothing!

In 2012, he offered $1 million for Mitt Romney’s tax returns ~ Zero!
(The presidential nominee made them public himself)

In October 2016, Flynt offered $1 million for recordings or videos of Trump breaking the law or acting in a sexually demeaning manner ~ Zip!

Fox News appears to be back on TMN cable, both on analog and digital channel 702.  It looks like it returned around 10pm last night (Saturday).

Would be interesting to hear reports from others if they're seeing the same - also, if it's back on Sophon.

  5. .

According to one source who spoke to TMN today,  Fox will be restored but they don't know when.  She also said they're sending a notice explaining the situation.  Personally, I wouldn't put any money on any of this (TiT), but at least it's something to ponder.

  6. I received a response from Fox News International regarding the Fox outage.   Apparently, it's not a country wide Thailand issue, but the individual decision of various cable TV distributors.

TMN in Pattaya is one vendor that decided not to carry Fox.  They didn't mention a larger vendor, Sophon, but it appears to be the same situation.  If any individual subscribers to any TV vendor would like to see Fox returned to their service, it would probably be best to make your wishes known to the vendor.

Here is the response from Fox:

Fox News is being distributed by, MeTV (UiTV) and AIS Playbox nationwide, there is no licensing issue in the country.

TMN has decided not to continue to carry Fox News.  Our team in Asia is working to resolve the issue.  In the meantime, Fox News can be viewed from the above mentioned operators.

I apologize for the inconvenience.  We understand how important Fox News is to our viewers around the world.
Please continue to make TMN aware how important Fox News is to you.

  8. From ThaiVisa Pattaya forum:

I've pieced together some data on Fox News from various sources and it appears that the license to broadcast Fox in Thailand expired on August 11.  In typical TiT fashion, one source said nothing can be done to bring it back and another said the the license will be renewed and payment is pending.  I contacted Fox-International in New York, they asked for the name of the cable provider - I gave them TMN and Sophon and told them that it appeared that Fox was out in all of Thailand.

Here's the response from Fox International in NYC:

    Dear Mr. ____,

Thank you for the information. I’ve notified our team in Asia and will be in touch as soon as I have new information.
We appreciate all our Fox News viewers especially those living abroad.

    .
TMN Cable TV provider appears to have made changes in their analog channel lineup today (August 11), including no more Fox News (spare the normal snide remarks please  )

I couldn't reach them by phone.  Does anyone have any insight on these changes?

Thanks in advance for any comments.

  11. .

Sophon Cable provides both analog and digital channels, but the DVR must have its own tuner to sort out all the channels.

The Panasonic and Samsung units from the past that I'm familiar with do this very well.  Difficult to understand why nothing like this caught on in Thailand.  As I said - very popular in the US - per the Panasonic link in the original post.

I'm not familiar with the "digital delivery systems" you referenced.  Anywhere I can get info on these?

  12. .
"What do you want to record from?"

Want to record TV programming from Cable at pre-set days/times, etc. - just like the old VCRs did.

The major difference being that a DVR records onto a hard-drive instead of tape.  Offers much more versatility such as skipping over commercials, jumping ahead & back instantly without the delay of reeling tape.  Video can also be recorded onto a DVD disc for archiving.

Similar to TIVO,  but no phone line or subscription required.  Very popular in the States.

  13. .
Does anyone know of a source of DVR recorders in Thailand?   Similar to the one at the link below.

Several years ago Panasonic and Samsung had PAL units available here, but I haven't been able to find any recently.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

    Forkinhades,
"You can always change the lamp holder, and put a nice LED one instead. :)"

Sounds like a great idea.  Anywhere I can get details on doing this, what's needed, etc,?

  15. Here's a new twist on the Songkran Mayhem!

Motorists Pelted With Urine, Fish, Motor Oil

CHONBURI — Local police said Thursday they were searching for a group of youths who were seen tossing bags filled with urine and other foul fluids at passing motorcycles and cars.
