Does anyone know of a source for Hybrid hard-drives in Thailand? I checked with InvadeIT - they said Seagate formerly sold one but had pulled it from the market in Thailand.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

"An SSD can read and write data many times faster than the best mechanical hard drive. On the downside, flash memory is many times more expensive than the innards of a typical hard drive, so manufacturers have limited their SSD capacities to hit reasonable price points: A 128GB SSD costs about US$130, and for that same price tag, you can buy a 3.5-inch desktop hard drive that delivers 2TB of storage, or a 2.5-inch laptop drive that provides 1TB of storage."

There's a rumor going around recently that Chonburi Immigration will no longer accept an Embassy income verification letter (for retirement visa extension purposes) that is more than 90 days old.

In the past, the validity period was one year. This past December I used a letter that was 4 months old and the year before, 9 months old - neither were questioned.

Has anyone had their letter rejected? Does anyone have any certainty on this rumor?

Thanks in advance for any comments.

"It's definitely not a false story!!! ... The guy who helped me has a respected visa/lawfirm business in Pattaya since 13 years, and is a member like myself on another Pattaya Forum"

If you want to remove any doubt, why not post his original response to you on the "other" forum, as well as his business name. If he's in the Visa assistance business, I'm sure he wouldn't object to the publicity and you'd be doing a service to the members of this forum.

Assuming this is a factual account of what really happened - what are the chances that the same incident happening to ANY random farang would be resolved by a chance meeting with a friend of the Imm. agent in an Internet chat forum??? Sounds a bit suspicious to me, but since the passport was lost anyway, he would have been justified in doing anything reasonable to try to retrieve it when the loss occurred.

Technically, he's in violation of immigration law if he's in Thailand without a valid passport. He could have been jailed if he had encountered some altercation with the police and not been able to produce a passport.

Since he arrived at Immigration with his passport and was certain that it had disappeared somewhere inside the Imm. office, he had an obligation to do whatever was necessary to attempt to locate it. If it were me, I would have exhausted every attempt to retrieve it before leaving the Imm. office.

As soon as you realized your passport had disappeared and you got no satisfaction from the agent, you should have demanded to talk to the boss. He resides in an office on the 2nd floor. If the problem was still not resolved, you should have called the police and filed a lost passport report immediately. My bet is that somewhere in that interchange your passport would have "mysteriously" re-appeared . . . smile.png

Yes, the Router needs your Sophon username and password - they should have given that to you or it will be on your contract. In the case of the Belkin Router, it defaults to PPPoE, but more sophisticated Routers may differ.

The Sophon Technicians know how to set up a Router, so my suggestion would be to leave that to them. I originally had a Linksys Router, but there was a problem with the firmware and it wouldn't upgrade. I bought the Belkin. Sophon installed both of them.

"its a cable router I need"

Yes, a cable Router or Ethernet Router - same-same.

"I showed them the 2 routers I have, and they told me neither was any use with Sophon"

Sophon works with any Ethernet Router. I bought mine at IT-City (a Belkin brand) at Tukcom for 1100 Baht - Sophon was also selling a WiFi Router for 2500. If you don't have a Router between the Modem and computer, you're letting yourself open for serious problems.

Why did they install Cyberoam??? I've never heard of anyone needing that with Sophon.

If you don't have your own Router, you should get one. Only around 1100 Baht at TukCom, or you can buy one from Sophon at a higher price. When you're having speed and/or connectivity problems, you should disable Cyberoam and see if that makes a difference.

Here's my result tonight from north Jomtien with Sophon.

There's clearly something seriously wrong with your configuration. If you have your own Router, that could be the source of the problem. Sophon can swap out both your Modem and Router and run other tests to isolate the problem.

If you DON'T have your own router (direct connection from your Modem to computer), that could also be the source of the problem because you don't have a hardware firewall which means that your computer could be infected with various viruses, malware, etc. Sophon can isolate that possibility also by using the laptop computer that they always bring with them. I would suggest keeping pressure on them until they isolate and fix the problem.

Sorry, but you don't have your facts straight. Sophon has their own fiber link direct from the Internet Gateway in Bangkok. It feeds into an optical switch on S. Pattaya Rd. and, from there, is distributed around the Pattaya/Jomtien area. If you don't believe this, go to the Sophon office on S. Pattaya Rd. and they'll give you a demo.

Sophon is not on the NBTC ISP list because they do not provide ISP services. Sophon is simply a conduit to feed broadband to their customers - they use CAT/Bangkok as an ISP to assign IP addresses and provide SMTP servers, etc.

"Yea, you make things up to fit your purpose (what ever it is) ... Again, your lack to basic math knowledge"

You can level vitriolic personal attacks against people if that's what makes you feel better, but the overwhelming evidence in this thread and others in the past on Sophon contradicts your claims.

You'd be well advised to move on and stop trolling this thread.

You're the only one of MANY reports about Sophon that is negative. Myself and many others I know are very happy with Sophon and have no such problems. If what you're saying is true, there's some technical anomaly that needs to be addressed. Sophon's service techs have always been very good at finding and fixing problems, so your claims are suspicious.

You can get CAT ADSL directly from CAT but it will cost you about 3 times what Sophon charges. Just call them or go to their office on South Pattaya road and you'll be up and running in a couple of days.

Yes, it's true that the original Sophon service in Pattaya was via CAT on Pattaya Tai. It was a shared system with several customers on one Router, which degraded the speed as more customers were added. That original system was scrapped when Sophon brought their own Fiber link in from the Internet Gateway in Bangkok.

If you have any doubts about any of this - stop into the Sophon office when one of their tech guys is and he'll be happy so show off their setup. (at least he was when I was there a couple of years ago).

I had CAT DSL for six years and switched to Sophon Fiber just over two years ago. Much cheaper, very few problems, and very attentive and fast service when needed.
