  1. I don't think there are any in Pattaya. There are now only three providers within Thailand on the approved list and I think they are all in Bangkok. One is BULATS through Vantage Siam which my wife took back in May. It was 5600thb then but believe they've put it up to 7000thb now. Can't really comment on the other two. I know one is Pearsons but others may be able to advise on those.

    Regards

Can confirm that the fee at Vantage Siam is now 7000 Baht. Also note that the certificates take 2 to 3 three weeks after the test to arrive.

Unless this airline have demonstably improved their operating practices I would avoid at all costs.

After any incident of this nature do you not think that the DCA (Department of Civil Aviation) & NTSB (National Transport Safety Board) will not be scrutinising every aspect of the airline?

There's a good chance that Orient Thai now have better practices than most of it's rivals due to this.

If an airline is completely grounded, which they were, then they have to make lots of changes and improve everything before they would be allowed to operate again.

There are many airlines that have had crashes and accidents. Some fatal some not. Some could have been avoided (in this case should have been) and again, some not.

How much faith do you have in the Thai DCA?

  3. Just go to the amphur with all your docs and your out within 15 minutes depending on how many people are in the Amphur. I used sansai as its not as busy as the one in the town center. It cost 35 baht each to get married and it costs 500thb each to get divorced, so make sure its what you want to do...lol :D Im a British national also and I think you have all the paperwork covered, but just to confirm you have had your affirmation translated and stamped by the Government office in Chiang Mai as stated on your previous thread.

Thaimiller, thank you so much. So were you able to get your affirmation from UK Consulate, stamped by the MFA in Chiang Mai ? Therefore I would not need to go BKK for this ? I'm currently in Phuket and planning to complete the whole process next week, without a visit in BKK. (So I would not have time to wait for the affirmation to be sent to BKK for notarisation). Thanks again, this is kinda stressing me out as its all a bit of a rush, so to hear from someobdy who has actually done it all in CM (including notarisation by MFA in Chiang Mai) is much appreciated !

If you get your affirmation done at CM consulate there is a translation place right next door (turn right out of the gate). He will do your translation and handle the MFA part at City Hall. It took 48 hours to come back and he charged 700Baht all in.

Edited to add: He originally wanted 1000Bt - get your wife to be to do the deal!

Khun Dave, you have put such a smile on my face, as this was the answer I was hoping for, and nobody could seem to confirm the MFA Chiang Mai part until now. I am so relieved to hear I don't need to go to BKK, and don't need to wait for docs to be sent to BKK, because I wont have time. So technically it is possible to go to the Consulate on Monday and have all the docs prepared and marry at the Amphur on Friday. All done in 1wk

Relief !! Khun Dave, if I wasn't getting married I could kiss you now ! hahahhaha , cheers again

Just remember that the consulate is only open 9 to 11.30 am. Get in there first thing Monday and you should be ready for the Amphur by Thursday. Good luck with it!

Further edit: Sorry I said wife to be earlier. Just realised that you are a lady!

  5. With all my respects but you must be kidding KhunDave or forgot one more 0 on the 300 Baht.

Those people wanted 3.000 Baht a document from us. I still feel angry about it.

A translation of the original marriage certificate; which is already in their computers for very long.

The certificate exists maybe 20 years without changing and apart from the Name and Birthday, it consists of no more than 20 standard words, again; unchanged for 20 years +.

To us it was disgusting, taking into account the average monthly salary is about 5.000 Baht in Thailand.

One thinks; all those translation stuff is one big scam in Thailand.

Sorry to hear about your experience. To be honest, it was my Mrs (Thai) who dealt with them so perhaps that was a factor.

  6. The worst of it happens between mid-February and early April. Some years are worse than others - this year there was almost no issue with smoke due to un-seasonal rains. When it is bad it can be very bad though, and if you have any kind of medical condition which could be aggravated by polution you should think seriously about whether the area is for you. Do a search of the Chiang Mai forum and you will find heaps of detail about the problem.

  7. This doesn't answer your hotel question, but might be of interest if you are looking to keep kids entertained.

I noticed yesterday that there is a water-park type attraction being erected at the corner of Nimanhemin and Huay Kaeo Roads. They had a huge inflatable water slide and some paddling pools and the like.
