  1. Last month I renewed 1 yr license to 5 year 7 days before expiration in Chiang Mai. Lady told me that old license was valid until expiration date , then new 5 yr licenses valid.

  2. As long as the money is flowing, she will not leave no matter what you say.

If she is poor farm girl, as you say then 9000 baht per month is more money than she or her family have ever seen and she will not just walk away from that.

Not an easy situation but you have to cut off the cash and deal with the short term consequences. It is not going to be easy or pretty in any circumstance.

  3. If this is not a windup, I cannot believe anyone would get in 12 million baht and not know beforehand what the arrangements would be and have them documented.

Get a lawyer. If you paid for the house and land, you should be paying very low or no rent. But probably too late for that now.

As PT Barnum said, "there's a sucker born every minute"

  4. I am sure she want a "real" gold necklace, perhaps so she can sell lt later.

To get that, any of the official gold shops will be the best way to be sure of what you are getting. Prices are normally determined weight and will change on a daily basis depending on the market price of gold. Most gold jewelry sold in the gold shops is 96.5% gold (23 carat) be sure to ask and verify this.

Prices from store to store seem to vary very little in my limited experience buying jewelry.

  5. I take the NCA bus from the Arcade bus station to Pattaya. VIP about 800 baht each way. The bus goes from CM to Lamphun to Lampang to Tak to Ayutthaya by pass Bangkok to Chon Buri to Pattaya and then Rayong. about 11 hours. Go to the station and get your ticket.

You have dome this in the daytime?

I've done this too, but only at night. I am looking for daytime service.

  6. This year was not as bad as last year and last year was worst than the year before. 2007 was the worst year on record. The bad part is over. Come on up and see for yourself.

Interesting. Last year was my first in CM and I thought this year was much worse than last. I left for 10 days just to get some air to breathe.

I don't have any data to support my conclusion. Just the feelings in my lungs and nose.

  7. The fat lady is singing...

It doesn't matter what currency oil (or anything else) is "priced" in.

I beg to disagree, realiziing that my simple logic may be wrong.

As long as oil is priced in USD, anyone buying oil who does not have USD must first buy dollars to pay for the oil. This creates demand for USD on the forex market which creates some USD strength and supports confidence in the USD and US economy.

If countries start accepting payment for oil in other currencies, it indicates a relative weakening of confidence and will lead to long term weakening of the USD. I think the lack of fiscal discipline in the US and increasing level of national debt is starting this process and am afraid that the people and politicians(all of them) lack the will to make the difficult decisions to reverse the process. I hope I am wrong!

This thread has completely left the OP question long ago. I have no idea why the gold dealers would not buy your gold. Did you ask them???

  8. He was only hoping for a place that served screwdrivers.

    Great reply, Phil. :D

I always wondered why the Thais call their bars ... Bar beers instead of Beer bars. :)

I noticed the Thaivisa ad before, but the internet here in my hotel was on the fritz for a couple of weeks. It's an on again off again thing and frustrates me no end when it times out and I lose whatever I've typed.

I assumed it is because in the Thai language, the adjective follows the noun, but am not sure. Ex - what you would call a "red car", would be "car red" in Thai. I think this is correct.

  9. Apparently the OP's exposure to the "states" is extremely limited.

In any number of situations in many places, flipping the bird gets you shot. :)

    You're correct.

Some think that just because they can act like rude, low class gutter crawlers in their home country without penalty, they should be able to do so anywhere without regard for local culture.

  10. I am from the US and think in most western PC countries there is too much government interference in private business.

I believe an employer who is putting his/her money and the future of the company on the line, has a right to ask any question they deem appropriate. The person being asked has every right to decline to answer if they see fit.

On the other hand, the prospective employee should be able to ask any question they want about the company. The interviewer can answer or decline.

At the end, each makes a decision on the other. If both positive, job offered and accepted. If either negative, no job.

Why does the government or any other party need to be involved in this process? (rhetorical question)
