No one has answered, I believe it was Padlin's post--who claims he was issued with a 12 year licence in 2004, now due to expire in 2016--I have no idea what sort of License this is?? I've had 3 x 5 year licenses, funnily enough renewed every 5 years, after my initial 3x 1 year licenses finished in 2003--so,2003/2008/2013 and next should be 2018--how on earth does one get a 12 year one, please??

Having been on a Retirement Visa for some time, it's many years since I last met this gentleman, but, at that time, we had a chat and a cigarette out on the pavement on the ramp going up to the Shopping Centre, he was a nice chap and also very good at the job of being Honorary Consul.
If my memory serves me correctly he took over from a husband and wife team, and he was a lot easier to deal with.
He will certainly be missed by the Thai Farang Ex-Pats of Central England.
I do hope that his position gets filled swiftly and, hopefully, with someone of a similar ilk.
RIP.

5 pages and most of it irrelevant.
RIP Birmingham Honorary Thai Consul, a very nice chap.

So, if just renewing a current [but due to expire soon] Thai 5 Year Driving License--other than the already mentioned Documents, we do not have to sit a re-test of knowledge of Thai Highway code, just sight and colour blindness tests?

IMO--to be honest, although hygiene standards here in Thailand are not what they are in the West, or in a perfect World anywhere like what they should be--but, having worked, and lived for on and off 20 years in India--I find LOS, during the 15 years that I have been here, almost spotlessly clean in comparison; the Thais, also, do have a basic grasp of what is meant by Hygiene--sadly, the Indians, in general do not. Apart from a couple of minor cases of 'the Runs' or an upset stomach I have been relatively 'Trots-Free' in Thailand--I caught Amoebic Dysentry on 2 occasions and countless cases of days spent as near to a toilet as possible during my time in India; many times train or bus journeys had to re-scheduled due to uncertainty whether my arse was going to explode.

Also, to the OP-surely, if as you say, you are just getting used to going around to the Game for a beer, why don't you ask there? Why ask on this forum?

Not closing AFAIK.
New menu due around Weds--with reduced prices of most dishes.
BTW--the Manager of the Game does not own/drive a car--nor does the Thai Manageress.

Although I have only read the clip posted here in this forum--what I have read is excellent and long, long overdue; to be honest, I was a little surprised that the article was actually written by a Thai--identifying the problem, at least on a very local level, very acutely; unfortunately it is also very true that the neighbouring countries are at least equally to blame and possibly even more so than Thailand. However, the author is absolutely 100% correct in saying that the problem is only going to get worse unless this Government, and ideally the neighbouring Governments, start to adopt laws and make the penalties such that people really are too scared to break them--and make the local law enforcemnt fully capable and willing to implement the laws.
The health implications of inaction are surely already being felt by all of us.

What exactly does this 'Law' refer to? Not those simple PVC pipe affairs, similar to a bicycle pump, surely? If not, I don't think that I have seen one.

I almost feel sorry for the girl. She looks like she knows what's coming.

Does anyone know of a way to get a Program Rundown--that is the current playlist for programs showing on ILikeHDTV? The first I know that a program is showing is when I tune into the Channel, often by when I have already missed half of the program, or movie, etc...So, just wondering if there is a way to get advance notice of programming lists.

I second CNX Legal.
In fact, I am discussing a similar scenario with them at the moment.

Off Topic--I remember about 10 years back, when I was still in Phuket, there was a company set up who were importing Aluminium Box Containers and insulating them, A/C fitting and selling on for Offices and even for 'Up-Country' Holiday Chalet type things--sounds a bit llike what is being referred to in the previous post [with the 'Switched-On' chick]
-
Yes, agreed, typo for sure--a 35mm 'in his pocket'--yeah, right.

Go for High VG content, low nicotine, and you will be fine--it's the PG and high Nicotine that is the issue--but, those people that know nothing will continue to decry these 'chemical inhaling' devices.

Not sure what my home country would Tax me on? Apart from what they already do. .... the Tax claimed back, in most cases, is about 10K baht-not a big amount.
-
Sorry Sparkles--but you say that your process was completely different to the other posters? You got your Tax Code from the main tax Office, Chotana Road but they could not/would not process the refund and you had to go to the Hang Dong Ampur?
I,too, live in Hang Dong so suppose this will be same for me--I was hoping to go to the Nong Hoi Office where it seemed the whole charade could be handled in one Office--not so, I suppose?

Thanks to all for the advice--went to Thanachart bank, yesterday, and had quite a job getting them to accept that Tax Refunds could actually be made for more than just the preceding 12 months--eventually they accepted that it might be possible and calculated the Interest earned and tax deducted for the previous 3 years--I, too, have one year with higher than 30K interest earned, purely due to the way that the accounts interest was accrued and calculated--in fact the preceding year's Interest and tax was paltry--in effect they lumped almost 2 years of interest into one tax year.
From what I have read, due to this, I need to find my way to the Hong Hoi Office--round the corner, over the bridge from Holiday Inn/Rajavej, I understand.
It also sounds as if a penalty could be charged for years prior to the preceding 12 months--anyone got charged one yet?
Absolutely no chance of claiming for Tax years older than the previous 3 years--bugger! Mai Bpen Rai, I guess.
-
Thanks for the update-I'm off to Thanachart later.
-
Wow--seems I'm a bit late to the party--but very useful info, all the same, thanks to the OP.
Always amazes me, in this country, just how hard it is to find all the relevant information--without this Topic I would have carried on assuming that the Tax deducted at source was 'non-refundable'--typical.
How long has this been available to reclaim? I have had 800K in an account for 9 years --never reclaimed a satang.

Great that everyone takes RTD's post so seriously, really.

Jeez----I'm sorry I even opened this thread--apologies to 'Kunjay' for all the bitter, nasty and frankly, unnecessary posts.
Many years ago,[14 in fact] I bought land, in Thai wife's name, built a house--had a separation and sold the house and land for a sizable profit--no big issue, no rip-offs, everyone happy. End of story--it doesn't always end in tears. I did make sure that I had, what I felt was, a very good contract with my wife prior to buying the land.

Ok, rules out my options.

I've seen the albino versions--occasionally, as pets of young students, usually--' Men', in Thai, I believe they are called.
