  1. I've not read any of this thread's post but about what i know, buddhism in Thailand is the biggest masquerade I've ever seen in my life.

Another excuse to drink huge amount of whisky and behave like a moron. Buddhism in Thailand is a JOKE, nothing else.

My wife and I never make any cash donations to the temples but we buy blankets or any other useful things people there could need. Cash never more.

And much better, we buy food for an orphan institute not far from home, and seeing children rush on a good dinner and being happy is much more rewarding than feeding these so called lazy monks in the temple.

  2. If you are out on songkran you are fair game...

What an extraordinary way of looking at it! I still think it is not fair to assault people, Songkran or not.

    Maestro

Right, it's Songkran but not everywhere in the city. I agree to allow people have fun if they want to. But some people have important appointment or any other more important thing to do than being soaked by stupid morons who can not see any diference between a guy who want to party or another one.

It's called assaulting, and somebody should not be surprised to be punched right where it hurts by the assaulted people. Period.

A message for all the newbees who come to prty during Songkran: Respect the people and play where it is allowed.

The game could turn sour and you'll be wrong to complain.

  3. 3) Is there a way to configure T-Bird or any other e-mail software to work with HOTMAIL accounts? I need to download my mail to my computer.

I don't have a hotmail account but found that some people can get it work in thunderbird using the Webmail and Hotmail extensions found on this page.

  4. Good laptops are available around 20K, but as you tell

(and to be able to play games knowing other 12 year olds!).
be very careful not buying a machine with a "shared memory" graphic card. 128MB Ram (dedicated) graphic card is what you would like , and for more recent and sophisticed games at least 256MB is needed.
  5. The lack of hardware drivers is not the fault of the OS.

Knowing that ALL hardware are built following the M$ rules your comment is surprising. If speaking about GNU/Linux I could understand. And even with GNU/Linux most recent and older hardware are recognized and working mostly out of the box.

Anyway, keep using the weirdest OS on the market if you like it. :o

  6. I have nothing against songkran...... played in the traditional way, as the Thais used to do it, but it has become just another touri$t draw where some Thais 'prostitute' their selves for that touri$t baht as well as the opportunity to 'get even' with the falangs that they have to endure for a living.

Just taking a casual poll among my neighbors here in the outskirts of Chiang Mai, most [except the children] agree that songkran has gotten 'out of control'.

Maybe that is the draw for the touri$t, they can act like irresponsible children in a foreign land for a week.

Judging from the replies on this topic, it seems that the pro-songkran folks are mostly newbies and i assume are just touri$ts and the anti-songkran folks are not just old farts, but responsible and polite people who live here and like to function without the insanity that this holiday brings and we don't like to hear about the high death toll and infections that always comes after.

Right, I'm not an old git (48), but I have a life here, I would like to be able to meet my dentist and business appointment and other meetings not soaked to death. Many foreigners live here and can enjoy songkran for one day, but when it's a one week nightmare it's just to much. Please guys, have a brain. :o

  7. You have no idea. Vista is not only the most stable and secure OS ever build by Microsoft. It actually rocks when using the right hardware.

    :o:D :D :D

Wonderful OS if you have to make your hardware compliant. I've installed and tested Vista for one week on a brand new recent laptop and it was enough to go back to XP, and win2k on my desktop PC as Vista would not install anyway.

If Vista is such a great OS, can you tell me why Windows 7 will be released next year just a little bit than 2 years after Vista still considerated by many as a beta version ?

  8. Yessss!!!

All the "bells and whistles" turned ON now. Amazing what "gummy" sort of effects i can get when dragging windows around :o Now if i had some "transparency" stuff would be nice.......

Gonna try PC Linux OS tomorrow or next day..... but seeing how good Ubuntu works off a live CD o n this machine...... i seriously think.... Windows's days are numbered.

Anyone interested in a second-hand Vista? :D Nah.... i'll keep it as a backup, just swap out the HDD's.

    Best regards, and good night.....

    Thanh

I would seriously advice to keep Windows (though not the crappy Vista) on your HD in dual boot with GNU/Linux (any distro). Dual boot is very easy to set up and in case you mess your Linux OS you can boot on Windows to browse for some help. To play games you'll need Windows, camera support in Skype doesn't always work in Linux as it's a beta version.

You can use GNU/Linux for 99% of the common tasks but in case it's better to keep M$ on a small partition even if you don't use it often.

    Just my two cents.

  9. I don't get this Vista-ME comparison.

They are both total crap, as simple as this.

PS. Oh, and don't ask me to elaborate as you will find complaints to read on the net who will give you months of reading.

I've tried Vista on a very recent Compaq laptop, it was a nightmare to find drivers and the integrated camera never worked. And on top of all the system always asking me if I allow to do this or that drive me nuts.

Typing "vista crap" in Google returns only 613,000 answers. :o

  10. Approx 92,000 per Month I used to spend but in reality it was more like 120,000+

And it was 70+ baht to the £1. Only 62 baht now.

I couldn't be stuck up Country living with the locals. I couldn't think of a worse existance for anybody.

To live really well would take twice the above budget.

Completely fanciful budget, 120,000+ is what a family of 4 live on in Switzerland with a car, a rented appartment, insurances and holidays etc. You could as well live and party in Ibiza.

You're living a sexpat life on a sexpat budget, nothing else.

  11. We went to klong phrao beach yesturday and kai bae the day before,i prefer klong phrao,it does go deep quicker but the part of kai bae we were at was very stoney.White sands is good for children as the north end has no stones and is shallower.

I agree, I was there 13 years ago, Ao Klong Makok who is part of Klong Phrao if I'm not wrong. Nice beach.

Liked Kae bay for a walk to the restaurant with a nice view but the beach is very stoney. Thanks Dolemite for the pics. :o
