  1. For clarification... which types of entry can be converted to Non-B without leaving Thailand?

    For example:

1.) 30 days visa exempt entry ==> Can it be converted here within Thailand , or must one leave Thailand and apply at an embassy outside Thailand?

2.) 60 day tourist visa exempt entry ==> Can it be converted here, or must one leave Thailand and apply at an embassy outside Thailand?

  2. Several years ago I entered Thailand on a Non-O visa granted to me because I'm married to a Thai national. I have been living here on yearly extensions ever since.

I have a job opportunity in an adjacent province and I have rented an apartment near my job. I am registered with immigration in the new province and recently successfully did a 90 days report at the new address.

My work permit application was accepted based on my original (several years old) Non-O visa. Am I correct to assume that work is permitted on my type of Non-O visa? I know this should be obvious... but I'll ask anyway.

My annual extension of stay is coming up in a few months. Will I need to re-register my address in my wife's province to accomplish that extension?

The province where I live with my wife could care less where foreigners stay, or so it seems. The province I will be working in is very strict about address registrations for foreigners. My landlord tells me not to worry, but to inform him each time I return after staying elsewhere even if it was for only as little as 24 hours. That might be 50+ times a year, or every weekend. What problems, if any, should I expect? I don't see any obvious problems, but I thought I should ask the forum, just in case.

  3. Just went on the online reporting site and it worked. https://extranet.immigration.go.th/fn90online/online/tm47/TM47Action.do

Or are you writing about the security warning that has been coming up for about a year now. Just click to ignore the warning.

The main immigration website is down and I get a 404 error though.

Confirmed. The online reporting site is not down.

The security warning occurs because the site uses a self signed certificate rather than one signed by a well known certificate authority like Verisign etc. As ubonjoe said, "just ignore it." To be on the safe side, it would be best not to ignore it permanently if your web browser offers that option.

  4. Only apply for the tour guide visa if she is the real and Bona Fide and De facto tour guide. Under those circumstances it would be perfectly OK to do so. Otherwise it's fraud and could mess up future visa applications for settlement etc. Think of the long term consequences.

OP's best bet is to follow the other advice given here and submit a really good visit visa application with all the required specs, and eyes dotted, and tee's crossed.

    Good luck.

  5. Marko, I like you more and more every day and I sympathise with you.

    Same things happen with me.

The only difference not only they don't take care of my things they borrow, but they never return them back.

Yep. I've been there & done that. It's just like how they often will return the broken wheelbarrow, my wheelbarrow... to the yard and there it sits, broken and rusting, on display with all my other broken stuff.

I frequently find myself borrowing their tools now, instead of buying replacements for my own broken tools. So far so good. My Thai neighbours don't seem to mind a bit.

  6. I'm not sorry for people falling victims of pickpockets.

In all my life either in Europe or Thailand took care of my belongings and was always aware of the people around me.

Everywhere in Europe they anounce "Be aware of pickpockets"

I find people falling victims naive........ to say the least.

Don't wear jewelry (gold) when walking in Pattaya between 00:001-05:00. Better not wear jewelry or gold outside of your 5 star hotel, period.

Spread you cash around your body. Some in various locations, different pockets. I sometimes even keep cash inside my shoes, but rarely in Thailand.

The Thai transvestites have been mugging foreigners near Beach Rd. and Soi Post office as far as I can remember since the early 1980's. They are still doing it and nothing, not even the army, will stop them.

If it's very late and I see a few of them loitering I'll even go so far as to switch sides of the road and literally run past them (quickly)... they won't take chase.

  7. Thai airways will never show a profit until they learn that farangs who know about airline business are appointed to run the airline.

Thai airlines only employ connected people ( who know jack s..t ) about how things should be done.

Look even the bank of England employed a Canadian to run the bank why? because he was the best person for the job.

Only Thai people know how to do things. All farangs are stupid attitude is a big problem, until that changes ( which it wont ) things will not get better.

Thai way something is not paying, so up the price !! crazy? yes bloody crazy.

Their is not one single foreigner in executive management at Thai. There are two reasons for this:

1.) They don't want to be there and deal with the political (Air-Force) Interference.

2.) They are not wanted there (because they may shake up the gravy train.)

They really need to take it one step beyond this and consider foreign ownership. It will be interesting, as a comparison, to see how troubled Malaysian Airlines' restructuring will pan out. It like Thai has a marvelous franchise and I hope they manage a turnaround.

To be fair to Thai people need to allow for the fact that Ethihad, Emirates, and Qatar are killing all the legacy airlines. of which Thai is one.

Here, here and the best one here. Open skies need to be fair skies.

  8. "I just waited to ask, how much do give every month to your "Loved one"?"

Not one baht. She has a job which means she has little idle time after a day's work to think of new ways to extract more money from me. Her job also makes her physically tired. She's proud of her independent ability to earn a living. Our kid's have been in school since 2 1/2 y/o.

If you want health/life insurance for your children compare policies, prices, and benefits independently on your own without her. When you decide to buy a policy do that independently as well, and make sure you are the beneficiary. Many policies have a cash-out benefit after 8-10 years and many girlfriends and wives have stars in their eyes over this aspect.

  9. What kinds of girls did u boys marry?

sometimes you dont know until its too latebiggrin.png

I'm on my third Thai wife now, and Hi-So or Lo-So (and/or everything in between) you never really know, except for one thing. They are all Thai.

The best bet is to find one with a good job and rich parents. Even then it's hit and miss, just like everywhere else.

I had a farang friend once who found his true Thai wife/soul mate, she was perfect. She died prematurely and suddenly. Sometimes you just can't win.

  10. Wow, what a day, after my last post I brought her to her parents home with the baby and kept my 2 year old with me, we went to a playground and had some fun and then went home.

    <snip>

Now I know this is probably not(but I hope it is) going to be the last time she is going to try to divorce and take the kids, I'm going to try to cement myself into this country by trying to find a job etc. so I can stay here even if we aren't married and so that I can take care my kids or at least be able to keep an eye on their living situation.

    <snip>

@96tehtarp, thanks I will look into those things especially now she is in the home now. I'll just copy all her papers when she isn't home. Making her signature them will be a problem though, she is keen when it comes to these things and she will know I'm up to something.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I believe all those unsigned copies are useless without her signature on them. Having copies is still better than no copies.

If (when) your visa situation in Thailand goes nusto you will need to get a new Non-O visa in a neighbouring country. I don't believe Turkish nationals are restricted from doing this but I believe FX. Egyptians can only get visas in Egypt. Check your situation.

If you don't have a Thai driver's licence, apply for one. Have her sign 4 copies of everything and then you have extra copies. Do this or think of anything to get signed copies. You'll need them when applying for for your visa. Another way to get her to sign is registering your infant at the Turkish embassy, get her to sign 5 or more copies, preferably just prior to your handing over some cash.

Your post this morning reads like a textbook. Your wife had a meeting with her parents and other Thai people in her circle, the police came. She wanted money. You gave it. She settled down... until next time. It looks like it's all about the money. It is all about the money.

    Good luck.

  11. Thanks for your replies, I've asked her to come with me to see a doctor, but she denies having a depression and I can't talk her into doing anything.

Bringing her to court is an option, but it's not a guarantee they will see that as enough proof of abuse. Perhaps the judges will think it was a one time happening or something. Too bad I didn't take more voice records before and now she knows I record it so she acts very sweet to my daughter.

About taking the kids to Turkey, that's kind of impossible because the baby isn't registered with the embassy yet, and I can't do that without bringing her there. My other daughter has a Passport though and I've even thought about only bringing her, because I didn't see my wife has a problem with the small baby, but then again I don't know what would happen at the border because the mother isn't with me. Also I don't really want to leave the small baby to her fate like that.

I honestly don't see things getting better from here as I hear the things she says, her family is also not supportive in this matter, they're completely ignoring me and not trying to do any counseling or something.

I read on another post on the forum that the extension wont be canceled until the divorce is completed and that they will tell her that it is a civil matter? Also, in case I would accept to divorce with her, I can probably still get an extension based on taking care of my child?

"Bringing her to court is an option, but it's not a guarantee they will see that as enough proof of abuse. Perhaps the judges will think it was a one time happening or something. Try purchasing some IP cameras an an IT mall either in Turkey or here in Thailand. Then leave them on when you are out. I doubt a few clips of her abusing the children will be enough to help in a custody battle as courts usually favour the mother in custody battles.

I really think you may want to contact and talk with a divorce lawyer here in Thailand well in advance of the divorce and without your wife's knowledge. You can plan exactly what you want before going to the amphur to register your divorce. The lawyer can write the agreement beforehand.

Start collecting documentation in a secure place. Birth certificates, copies of her Tabian bahn, ID card, marriage certificate, etc and find a way to get her to sign copies. That way you will have necessary copies of what you will need if you must get a 90 day non-O visa's in a neighbouring country eg. Savanakhet Laos. - if your extension of stay should fall apart.

Double check with your embassy to make sure you cannot register the infant without your wife being present.

    Good luck.

  12. Recently I had a family member of an acquaintance from Europe pass through town. He'd be best described as a punk complete with Mohawk haircut. The security guards went wild in Tesco lotus. They were all over us like flies on honey, peeping around corners, talking to each other on walkie talkies together and monitoring our every move. There were more than half a dozen plain-clothed security guards watching us closely. The punk was oblivious. I wasn't. It was a real eye opener.

Fink I would avoid your family member. Anyone who wants to look like that wants attention, he got it...No problem...coffee1.gif

It was a family member of an acquaintance. It's funny as he had a normal haircut before coming to Thailand. He probably thought it would be cool to sport that Mohawk hairdo while gallivanting around Khao San Rd. I've only been there once in 20+ years.

  13. Thanks everybody for your help and advice

She went for the interview last Monday - they didn't want to see the suitcase full of supporting documents (slight exageration) she had. They asked a couple of questions about her trips to Europe and me.

She didn't think to ask (being Thai) if she had a visa or not then and there so we had to wait till Friday when the passport came back with her 10 year USA visa - more than mine on a Visa waiver (2 years).

    Stressful but painless.

    Thanks again

    Congratulations!
