  1. Hmmm my wife and I live in Oz with a joint bank account already, so it's not as if putting in her account in thailand is going to make much difference. I understand where you are coming from though.

I think what I'll do (and what I have always done) is bring some cash with me, maybe 1-2k, carried in 500$ bundles in different locations (one in my bag, one in wifes bag, one on us etc) and bring a fully paid off mastercard and atm card to withdrawl once cash used up.

I don't know whether you get a better exchange rate from ATM's or from the exchange booths though? That may influence how much cash I actually bring over. What's the max amount you can drawer out from a Thai ATM in a signle transaction? I recall it being only 20,000THB.

  2. Hey guys,

I thought this may have been posted several times before but when I went searching the forum I couldn't the answer I wanted.

Going to Thailand for a 1 month holiday, want to know the cheapest way to take money over.

I can either get heaps of cash out in Oz, and exchange it as I need it in those little exchange booths.

    or

Get money out of a Thai ATM as I need it from a Savings account

    or

Send our expected spending money to my wifes bank account in Thailand which we can draw from over there.

I havn't been to thailand for 18 months and am not sure of the fees involved.

    Thanks in advance

    Nick

  3. Wondering if anyone has been to Koh Rok before on this forum. I was looking at hiring a private boat or yacht for a 2 day trip, and sleep on the boat rather then the island itself. Planning for April. Any comments/suggestions?

  4. Air Asia and Tiger are by far the cheapest. I think Jetstar only flies to the eastern states then back to perth, not direct (though I'm not 100% sure if they have changed since I looked last). I have flied on both tiger and air asia several times, then stopover in singapore with tiger is a bit longer (several hours), but the domestic kl airport with air asia is VERY unpleasant. I just booked a return trip from Perth to Phuket, including tax, upsize of luggage and all for AUD $530 - not bad.

  5. It would make sense that if you are relying on the majority of your income from trades, that you should at least do some sort of course or study into the subject. I follow the asx daily, and trade sometimes, but I do consider myself a 'newbie' to the field and would love to do some more research. Of course their are no guarantees, blueys definately reduce the stress though (although a bit boring sometimes). As per RedCardinal - I wonder how many people earn their $ online in Phuket. There is never a better time than now!

  6. This may not pertain to Phuket in particular, but that is where I would love to carry it out.

How hard is it to set up a way of making money online in Phuket. This would be the ideal way of making $ because no rent, no staff stealing money, little space required, can work the hours that you chose, and can work from home, or poolside :).

Also, if this is done by trading on the stockmarket - say the ASX for my example, does one have to pay Australian tax if they are making the money while they are staying in Thailand but it is on an Australian trade.

And finally does anyone have any specific ideas?

Hope this is not in the wrong forum.

  7. When purchasing products such as Viagra, Cialis or Levitra; does the pharmacist ascertain whether these products will be safe in each case? Do they check if you are taking any other medications, have any other medical conditions, or have any allergies?

I'm a pharmacist in Oz and these medications are not for everyone! Just wondering if they do all the necessary checks beforehand?

  8. Great info. I also find some other medications in Thailand (Indian generic brands) seem to be less effective than the original brands. This is not really a problem in Oz because every company is scrutinised under the TGA (Therapeutic Goods Aministration) for safety and effectiveness. However, in Thailand there is less control and cheaper brands (where possibly less quality control takes place) from places like India have flooded the market. Although most medications seem to be effective, I wouldn't rule out that there is some that are definately stronger/weaker than detailed on the packaging. Generic brands however are much much cheaper, and shouldn't be of a concern for things that aren't taken often (such as antibiotics).

  9. I wish people would not post about things they don't know about!

I'm a pharmacist, and you can exceed 300mg/daily. 400mg is considered the dose not to be exceeded out of hosiptal. Going above this dose can cause seizures, CNS and respiratory depression.

You do not need a prescription for tramadol in Thailand. As far as slow release/controlled release versions (100,150 and 200mg), I have never purchased these so the other posters would have more idea.

50mg immediate release tramadol is definately available.

BTW - tramadol is the drug name, which may trade under many differing brand names (TRAMAL being the originator brand).
