  1. Sorry but I'm not interested in Koh Kong, I'm interested in Koh Rong. After much research it seems you can hire boats from Sihanoukville and some satellite islands around Koh Rong which are accesible from Koh Kong. Can get a 13M private yacht for $200US/day. That'll do the trick. There is no regular ferry service to this island.

  2. Does anyone in Phuket have beer on tap within an arms reach of their pool/spa? Maybe even a swim up bar with beer on tap?

    Seems like a great idea...

How much would it cost to set this up? What beer would be available? Leo would be my first choice if I can get it supplied in kegs!

    :)

  3. I'm 24 and live in WA as well. Got married earlier on in the year to a beautiful Thai lady.

I think there is a lot of places you could go wrong, but not impossible.

Don't buy real-estate in Thailand, just rent.

Go on a couple of extended holidays (several months) before you make any big decision.

If your going to buy a business, you need to target farangs, cause that's where the $ is, no good getting Thai money -unless you want to live like a Thai.

Don't trust anyone, especially young Thai women who need to borrow money for there sick family etc.

What I also realised, is places that first seem great, like Patong, aren't so great after all. It's good to keep some distance from those areas, and trek in every now and then for some action.

I think I pretty much repeated what everyone else has already mentioned, however Thailand is a great country and everyone on here agrees otherwise they wouldn't be members. I personally would much prefer to live in Thailand than Oz, but I would keep some solid cash flow coming from Oz.

  4. I've been pulled over by cops countless times, just got an ozzy drivers lisence (no international drivers lisence), they check under my seat, to see if I'm carrying anything suspicious, check my lisence, and then wave me through. Never been fined. This is a scooter though, is that included in the above criteria?

  5. Thanks. I'm back in April next year for Songkran, gonna get it re-coloured and add a bit more to it. It's addictive, just gotta keep on adding. Do Heroes MC members get their work done with Am too?

  6. When does Koh Lanta open and close, as far as bars and restaurants. I was there for about a week last november/december and it was so nice. Thinking of going back again in april 2010, is everything on the island still open in April?

  7. yes sad really, the whole purpose of this forum is to make our stay in los that little bit better, and educate the uneducated. I'm sure their would be enough punters with a good attitude that could show up.

  8. I was thinking, although I don't live in Phuket yet; in the near future (if you guys don't already do this)

have farung gatherings each weekend and have it at a different persons house each time - get pissed have a bbq and catch up.

Obviously it would have to be with only people who get along, but we can always kick out the idiots :)

That would give the wifeys a chance to catch up with other like minded thai lady's too. We could even organise this on the beach every now and then?

Sorry if I'm years behind and this is already going on.

  9. I have not been to Phuket for 8 yrs. I know things change so I want to ask you locals for advice.

I am staying at Royal Phuket Yacht club. Are there any nice restaurants within walking distance of the hotel?

Is Phuket Fantasea worth going to see (I have an 8 yr old son)

Are there any reputable companies that would hire a boat and crew for 8 hours?

How long does it take to get over to Phi Phi island?

I realise if I trawl through the forum, I am sure to find some answers, but if someone could give me an up to date answer, that would be great :)

going to phi phi, depends on if you take speed boat or normal boat. I've been on both, i think the speedboat was about 30-40 minutes, and the normal boat was about an hour or just over.

  10. Well not that were planning to get divorced, but I see your point.

The land in Thailand can go under her name, the land in oz can go under my name - get bigger tax breaks that way too :)

  11. Probably the most relevant point made so far, I havn't looked into it yet....to scared :)

I'd rather be ignorant and happy.

I propose to buy the land with cash. If anyone can help me further than this, your advice is definately welcome.

What is the go now anyway, with land and properties in Thailand? My wife is Thai, we live in Australia, she makes her own money has her own job, actually we have one shared account where both our pays go into.

Can't we buy it with this money?

  12. Patong is patong, it serves a purpose and always will. I personally don't mind pissing it up hard there once and a while, I once stayed in the centre of Patong for a month straight, and by the end I never wanted to see it again. I think its alright to go in every now and then. but anyway, I can't wait to check out these places you guys have mentioned!

  13. Oh yipee!!

Thought I would get a list of replies saying along the lines of - "not in phuket, your dreaming, etc"

I've printed out these suggestions, and I look forward to checking them out next time I'm in phuket, cheers guys!
