  1. As an adjunct to my post about herbicides and fumigants etc being included under the umbrella of pesticides ,  i think a lot of you are missing the main point for these new regulations. Chemicals like Glyphosate and Paraquat in any of their many formulations are passed on by breathing the fumes, ingestion and probably the most common is by dermal (passing in through the pores of the skin), I have used all these chemicals and more like 24D etc over my years in farming, horticulture and greenkeeping. Even though i had always kept up to date with the latest Safety Data sheets ,labels , manufacturer's  recommendations plus industry journals i now have Multiple Myeloma ,( One of the blood cancers or leukemia) associated with Glyphosate.   .

If the farmer understands withholding periods written on the chemical products there should not be much contamination passed on to the produce but it is the poor farmers that are at highest risk here and that is any government with any morals (okay that is a joke) should be looking after. Bayer now owns Monsanto and they will be even harder to get into court.

You have a Horticulture degree and you don't know the difference between a pesticide, a herbicide and a fungicide?

I know very well the difference.

Pesticides are substances that are meant to control pests, including weeds.[1] The term pesticide includes all of the following: herbicide, insecticides (which may include insect growth regulators, termiticides, etc.) nematicide, molluscicide, piscicide, avicide, rodenticide, bactericide, insect repellent, animal repellent, antimicrobial, and fungicide.[2] The most common of these are herbicides which account for approximately 80% of all pesticide use.[3] Most pesticides are intended to serve as plant protection products (also known as crop protection products), which in general, protect plants from weeds, fungi, or insects.

BTW I do no till without glyphosate.

You are absolutely correct. Obviously none of these "experts " have read the legislation in countries like Australia,New Zealand and most likely UK. When they draft legislation like this which requires some knowledge and  they plageise what has been debated before with consultation from all stakeholders including the big chemical boys like Bayer . Recommendations are then tabled and debated in parliament . in theory, and then adopted before and for the ease of both uniformity and worldwide standards. can't imagine Thailand starting to draft the report before doing their research and duplication what they found. On the very first page of the Australian standards there is a page of definitions that states pesticide shall be the term to be used for all pesticides, fungicides, and herbicides. It lists a lot more too and covers both organic and inorganic substances.

I hope that was informative for all those who think qualified horticulturalists know jack <deleted>.

  3. This bloke was an environmentalist <deleted> and probably had the intention of stopping these people of deriving a income by destroying the forests that many other people need to make their lives liverable. (Food, fuel sources, cleaner air, environments for animals etc.)  He was obviously a scumbag and has no idea what it costs and overheads are involved in stealing from the Nation of Thailand.

  4. Here i get the Indian scammers - using similar tactics as the Indian tailors and touts. They get sold your details from other Indians working in phone companies and so on. That is how they get often accurate details about you .They have no ethics when it comes to money.

They can be a lot of fun if you have the time and in the right mood just leading them on. But they tell me that is racist to get them them wasting their time and   getting them excited over finding a stupid fool who they can rip off.

But if they ring late at night and then hang up on you that will <deleted> me off - apparently they will ring three or more numbers at once and the lucky one who answers first gets the call and they hang up on the ones that are too slow.

There are millions of Indians in this game - so what if you <deleted> off a few sleazy ones.

  5. Watch Mixed Martial Arts and depending on the skills of the fighter, of course, most Brazilian ju- jujitsu fighters , especially from the Gracie school, have an overall advantage in the ring especially in ground work ,but then again a lot of them are kick boxers too.

Having said that there is no one style of martial art  that is superior - it all comes down to the fighter and the day.

  6. Girls, you should have negotiated a reasonable fare at the airport before you hoped in and you were able to walk to the next taxi to negotiate a reasonable price.. Even if the price suddenly rises at the destination at least you will have the satisfaction of being able to say it was such and such a price and have at least a price to renegotiate again. They are real <deleted> these drivers. Absolutely no honour.

  7. My wife watches the news  and the morning current affair shows. She also likes Doc Martin a great deal The kids are always on their phones watching that slapstick humour or cartoons suitable only for four year old's usually at full volume . Drives me crazy the sound effects  .I try to steer them to documentary's but they are not interested .

Possibly the reporting isn’t clear and it’s two free bags each less than 20kg (Emirates is 2 at 23kg each) which wouldn’t be so out of line.

So what you are saying is that if i have two bags each 20 kg then i able to take 40 kgs on into luggage underneath. That does not sound correct. So now i can take a couple of kg of cheese, bottles of ouzo, presents for the extended family and on the return, i can have 20 kg of undies and another kg of som-tum ingredients?

That would influence the wife who she books with, plus the 10% discount because she still has a Thai passport. I will have to pass on the good news .

  9. I am a habitual user of the F word when in conversation I get excited or enthusiastic about a subject or I get upset about a situation. That is usually fine most of the time except when i am with non-native English speakers and because this is a Thailand forum I will specifically mention Thais. Unless they are used to being in conversation with we potty-mouthed individuals i have found every time you use the F word  (more so than the C word or other swear word) it seems to get interpreted as a "Go F yourself " even if it is when you see a little hottie as you casually say "look at the F bum/tits on her " for example.  To us Aussies, but no doubt a lot of other falungs; in particular, the F word can denote anything from our aspirations in life " like i would like to die in an ocean of F pussy juice " or hostility " i am not going to F you up" or instructions "give me the F spanner". There are so many examples of how we use the F word, all different meanings in different situations.

I also find that in conversation I use the F word as a means to place emphasise another word or emotion, So in all the F word is one of the most versatile words in the language particularly within the last 50 - 100 years. This is something most other non-English speakers appreciate and can result in much F ...ing misunderstanding.

  10. I will repeat what we, as foreigners know apart from a few ignorant extreme right-wingers, that the swastika, as invoked by the Nazis, is no joking matter. 50 million people died in the European second world war, all up and on all sides of the conflict. 50 million is no insignificant number  and most of us would have lost family and friends through this terrible event.  And then add the Asia Pacific conflict with Japan in which Thais perished and they do not know about this event. I have talked to Thais who do not know about that Vietnam War or Pol Pot existed within the last half-century, and next door to Thailand, so how are they ever know how to avoid or resist repeating history.

These are nothing but silly little children and most Thais will wonder what all the fuss is about and will be forgotten in a few minutes of more brain cloud descending.

SAD indeed. Very Sad! (and loss of face )

  11. Incidentally, Australia has Methadone clinics all over the place and there are also government supervised shotting galleries where one is able to go for a hit using clean needles etc and with medical personnel present. I don't think it has reduced crime associated with drugs but it does save lives because they still have to buy their hit from whoever is selling, If supervised clinics or legalized drugs  reduced the incidence of crime against both people and property along with the misery any drugs brings then hotels, bars and pubs are failing quite often .

I thought H was passe among all the druggies in Oz. Apparently not. These 2 losers will join their loser clients in a slow form of death for a few years.

I am coming around to think that the best way to rid the drug trade is to semi legalize it.

Gets rid of traffickers, and ultimately gets rid of the druggies a bit quicker.

Potential druggies would not pick up the habit if they had to go to a supervised clinic to start with. Where is the thrill in that.

Addicted druggies would only need to go to a supervised clinic.

A by product would be a sudden reduction in crime that goes to supporting a drug habit.

Smack never goes out of style and it has caused a lot of misery over the years, However, it is nowhere as destructive as Meth, especially ice meth or yaa-baa ice or whatever you want to call it. Yaa Baa Meth is pure evil in how it treats it victims and by that, I mean the users, the families, and the victims of whenever they wasted or stoned on meth like driving cars, holdups or just bashing citizens going about their business.etc. I have been told a lot of people can use Smack to ease off the effects of Meth when it all gets too much and they want to slow down a bit. Smack has the opposite effect as Meth and so it is not passe at all among all the drugtakers. I am not defending Herion in any way , but just trying to give another perspective on why it is still a "problem" drug

  13. Have a look at the newspaper that you read this in. Hardly credible as tabloids go. Maybe they are building a new clubhouse but you should always read the Murdoch press with some healthy cynicism.

  14. Even if Mr Buse had medical insurance, many insurance policies, and i am targeting travel insurance in particular, exclude "terminal" medical conditions like cancer. Many exclude people who take blood thinners. They do not want to pay and the most serious conditions you have to excess to be covered or pay out of your own pocket. Maybe this was why he was charged. You need to to do your homework before buying medical/travel insurance esp the pre-existing condition clauses.
