  1. I have not read every post so perhaps somebody has mentioned that many multinationals buy and pay for their stock often a few years beforehand . The contract is signed and payment is placed in a suspended account until a delivery date , perhaps two or three years in the future. For example if the parent company of Big C has purchased 500 tons of frozen peas at x amount in 2012 and the market for frozen peas was high then then the company still has to base it selling price on the 2012 price to make back the loss when they are delivered and sold in 2015 . It works both ways of course - it is the basis of the futures markets and most multi - national companies play this game as a hedge against inflation..

You must have a different experience as me. I have a friend who is general manager of a Carrefour hyper market in my home country.

In the past when I was still in business I also sold sometimes to supermarkets.

The multinationals pay 90 days AFTER delivery, not up front, and with many items specifically new in assortment they pay only what is sold.

They will pay some on 90 day no doubt , usually the smaller or local suppliers who do not have the clout to negotiate like the bigger suppliers, but for the big players, the big multi-nationals it will be on the signing the contract, the money will go to a third party , usually a bank , who will hold the funds until and it will not be released until an agreed date , usually the delivery date , or certain conditions are met. . Interest etc will be negotiated in the contract of course. Therefore most of the prices are based on what was agreed to by the supermarket, or whoever is the purchaser, on prices agreed to ,perhaps a few years previously and the costs such as shipping has been factored in based on the costs agreed to in the contract . This will explain why with lower oil prices the shipping costs have not fallen..

  3. I was just talking to my GF yesterday about this subject and she said that when she grew up she and all her siblings learnt how to swim in all the local watering holes and rice canals when foraging for food and fish and frogs etc.. She then went on to say that most kids in the villages may not learn how to swim nowdays because they don't go out looking for food in the water as much or they are at home on their phones and tablets.

  4. I agree with Pigeonjake and i appreciate and respect Shaggy trying to keep the peace but I do not own any property (in my name in LOS ). I grew up farming and i have spent most of my working life in horticulture and allied industries such as business management, land management, ecology, landscape design and so on. I may not contribute a lot anymore since a similar post a few years ago abut not wanting horticultural subjects included in farming and it appears that it is telling me to F--- off as we do not want anybody who is not in the clique. Maybe i take offence too easily but the Farming Forum is great the way it is - for everybody .But if the intention is , because we are not land owners, or big enough land owner , then make it clear we are not welcome and be done with it. Just my thoughts on the subject.

  5. Zamioculcas zamiifolia -- It comes from Zambia and East African coast and is not a palm although its common name is Zambian palm or Aroid Palm plus i have seen it called a variety of other names too in nurseries . It is actually a succulent and hence will survive in areas of low rainfall. It does has similarities to the cycads as well.

  6. I remember an interview with Ted Nugent in Playboy magazine (and i did buy it for the pictures too) in the seventies and he made a comment about the the only people who should eat meat should be the people who have the balls to kill it and butcher it themselves. Agree with the sentiment - and i have assisted in killing animals and the butchering process for meat when i was young growing up on a farm but it also made me a vegetarian for about twenty years too. The kill is easy (or at least bearable depending on the methodology and circumstances) - the butchering is the hard part and i still vomit every time i smell blood and the intestines. Every meat eater should spend an hour on an chain or the killing floor in an abattoir before they decide if they will still eat meat.

  7. Indeed.

VFS are merely a handling agent who collect applications and forward them to the embassy and then receive them back for return to the applicant.

When passports are returned by the embassy to VFS for forwarding to or collection by the applicant they are in sealed packages, so VFS do not know the result of the application.

Visa decisions are made by UKVI staff at the embassy, and UKVI is an agency of the Home Office.

The data Protection Act applies, and this is a serious breach of it.

BTW, VFS Global is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Kuoni Group, a company founded by a Swiss in Switzerland and still headquartered in Zurich. So if you want to make veiled racist remarks, direct them at the Swiss, not the Indians!

It is indeed a Swiss company but if you look at the company's office holders they are mainly Indian names . All of them are highly qualified academically and professionally and so it would be difficult to be racist and be accurate . It is just another global company.

  8. The cat will probably want to stay up there where it feels safe until Songhan is over and the perceived fear has ended . Make sure it has some water and it will eventually come down . It may also be a neurotic cat missing its owner . If you feed it it will stay up there where it feels secure.

  9. I am wondering if you should see a doctor with regards to the blood thinners as the chilli could be aggravating a stomach condition like an ulcer . I was taking aspirin then changed to warfarin and now am on pradaxa so i know what a pain blood thinners are . It also could be Gall Bladder esp if your cholesterol is high . Not saying they are but maybe good to get it checked out .

  10. I understood Oppo had the blu-ray audio ( SACD and Pure Audio ) formats to themselves until you get to exotic players that will make your nose bleed with their prices. I couldn't see them giving that up - probably Oppo is exporting to more profitable countries and demand exceeds manufacture.

    i want one myself .

  11. We have given them all the requested information including my divorce papers last week so i hope now it just a matter of waiting. Like i have said it is the inability to make any plans that is frustrating .

Apparently Immigration has a re-designed web-site and re-designed forms and now everything has to be submitted electronically . Does not effect me but could make it more difficult for some.

  12. Because it is end of the school year and we need to move our step son up into new school we too would like some indication ( before we spent a small fortune on fee and uniforms etc) but we have only received a "wait your Turn" email reply. I am not complaining as i understand we must wait our turn , that is only fair but at the same time we do need to make future plans. Frustrating indeed.
