IV Sedation is a General Anaesthetic, so everyone is talking about GA. Otherwise the thread topic would be about local anaesthesia......For GA, you aren't likely to be sitting in a dentist's chair. Likely an operating room with at least four people involved.

I've received IV sedation for dental treatment over the last 30 years.  All while sitting in a dentist's chair.

I forsee a time when bereavement benefits for our wives/widows will not be payable unless they relocate to the UK after our deaths.

    How right you were! ;-(

  3. As I understand the government-speak at https://www.gov.uk/bereavement-payment  https://www.gov.uk/bereavement-allowance

and https://www.gov.uk/bereavement-support-payment  payment of Bereavement Allowance (formerly Widows' Pension) and  the one-off Bereavement Payment were restricted to spouses of those who died prior to 6 April 2017.

The replacement Bereavement Support Payment is payable only to those whose spouses die after  6 Aril 2017 and who live "in the UK or a country that pays bereavement benefits" (last link).

Thailand does not appear in the DWP  list of such countries, so I'm concluding that my UK national wife won't get a penny after I croak.  (Her intention is to remain resident in Thailand).

    Is this correct?

    Thanks in advance.

  4. Trying to help an elderly 70+ British expat sort out his Thai (rpt Thai) tax papers.

As indicated above (post 36), UK pensions deriving from previous UK government employment are explicitly exempt from Thai tax according to article 19 of the UK/Thai Double Taxation Convention of 1981.  There is no such explicit exemption for  UK State Pensions, implying that State Pension payments are taxable.

But .... several commercial web-sites suggest this isn't the case if the foreign resident is 65 or over: see, for example,

    a)  Price Waterhouse Cooper Thai Tax Booklet  (2015) p. 5 at

    https://www.pwc.com/th/en/publications/assets/thai-tax-2015-booklet-en.pdf

This states "a Thai resident who is 65 years of age or older is entitled to personal income tax exemption on an income up to an amount not exceeding THB 190,000"

    B) Similarly, the Sherrings web-site (2017) on Thai personal Income Tax and Allowances states:

"Technically the deduction for taxpayers who are 65 years or older is an exemption from income tax, but for ease of understanding by foreign national residents in Thailand we have included this exemption under the deductions heading"

    http://sherrings.com/personal-tax-deductions-allowances-thailand.html

Spent a while searching Thai Revenue Department sites for an official statement to this effect, but have failed miserably to find one.  Can anyone help?  (Doesn't matter if it's in Thai only, though English version preferred).

    Thanks in advance!

  5. Step 1:  Report loss to the police; obtain police loss report form.

Step 2:  Take loss report form to British Embassy (Consular Section).  Complete paperwork to obtain Emergency Travel Document (ETD).

Step 3: Take police loss report form and ETD to Thai Immigration so that loss/theft can be entered into database, along with details of ETD.

    Job done.

This assumes OP has imminent travel planned.  If not, ask Consular Section what additional paperwork is required before submitting application for replacement passport at Trendy House.

  6. No complaints from me about the service at Lampang Immigration:  recently extended retirement visa (pension income method) and, on a subsequent visit, did 90 day report.

No early morning start necessary to get a place in a Chiang Mai-style queue: arrived mid-morning on both occasions and seen within 20 minutes.  Done and dusted within 15 minutes.

No soliciting for off-file extra payments.

I think it is called next appointment on the approval you print out from the online reporting site.

Correct - click on the Next Appointment icon (bottom icon) and you should see a page headed Receipt of Notification.

This shows date of your 90 day submission and   a block which reads "This is not an extension of stay.  Please notify your address again on [date].  Keep in passport".

Took me a couple of tries to open that page.

Yup - it's back up and working.

Submitted without difficulty and printed out the Check Status page to retain pending receipt of Approval.  Last time round that arrived within 24 hours of submission.

Hmmm ....submitted on Tuesday but no 'Approval' e-mail yet.  Last year online  'Approval' received in 24 hours.

Has anyone who submitted online after 1 April received their 'Approval' yet and, if so, how long from submission to its receipt.

(Getting close to expiry date and hope not to have to plan a trek to my nearest Immigration Office)

    Thanks.

  9. Visited Lampang Immigration Office today to submit 90 day report and enquire about Extension of Visa (retirement) procedures.

Office (ground floor right hand side corridor) opens at 09.00.  No queue.

Officer asked for my 'appointment note', but it quickly became clear that he meant the tear-off slip from TM47.  I didn't have one -  reporting all done on-line for over a year.  No probs after I showed him a print-out of my last confirmation e-mail.

Then told that I had no TM30 ("Notification form for House-master, owner or the possessor of the residence where alien has stayed") on record - fair shout, never submitted one or been asked for one at any time in the last ten years.  Wife will duly be fined THB 1,600; form to be filled in pronto.

Extension of Visa applications are processed by appointment only, i.e. cannot queue.  Recommended to fix such an appointment by calling 093-259-2121 one month before extension expiry date.
